Laurie Beechman and Austin Pendleton - Lovers On Christmas Eve
Way back in the day, Laurie did a lot of backer's auditions for potential Broadway shows. One of those backer's auditions was for Cy Coleman's "I Love My Wife"! Here she is with the brilliant Austin Pendleton! I have remixed this track from the studio recording they did as well as Laurie's own personal audio cassette of the rehearsals!
I hope you enjoy this is as much as I enjoyed making it!!

When The Curtain Comes Down

This is my most favorite Laurie performance of all time. I can't describe the thrill of sitting in her audience, knowing that this moment was coming, week after week. Keep in mind, this is after having done 2 performances at Cats on a VERY cold Saturday night around 12:30am. The most heartfelt, honest and beautiful performance by the most beautiful soul to ever take to a stage.
Laurie Beechman: You Got Me and I Got You
Просмотров 2603 года назад
This is a special request that I am thrilled to fulfill. You Got Me and I Got You was written by Henry Krieger and Cindy Lou Johnson and is among the most beautiful songs that Laurie brought to life as only she can. This is another song from her triumphant return to the Ballroom in 1989!
Laurie Beechman - Columbus

This moment from Laurie's brilliant "orange dress" show at the Ballroom is the perfect marriage of artist, song, arrangement and direction! In any other hands, it would not be what it is...a moment of true artistry! Richard Jay Alexander, Bruce W. Coyle and of course Laurie, created an evening that will live on in the memories of all who attended and who discover it here!

Saw her sing this live in Boston. Chills...
Love laurie and her beautiful voice. I l was lucky enough to see her in "Cats" as Grizabella--what a wonder!
We had Laurie in our show band ''Carnival'' when she was 19 years old...Brought the house down everywhere we performed.I have photos of her in the band,,,A few years later, she's on Broadway....A great talent...I miss her..RIP,my friend.

Wow, thank you for posting this. I love this album and always wanted more. I didn't think she ever publicly talked about it in interviews either. Where did the song Carrie come from?
You are very welcome. The Sighs recorded a number of songs that were not included in the album, some of which I like better than what was released. LOL Carrie came from those sessions and from rehearsals they did at The Barn, Todd Rundgren's studio.

Who is the composer of this song? She was a treasure
Just "discovering" her now. A girl from Long Island for whom going into the city to see a show was a rare and glorious event back in the 70's, 80's and 90's. I'm going to love every minute and every note that Ms. Beechman left behind.
Laurie is the single most phenomenal influence on my musical life that I've ever enountered. And i think about her every day. This is such a beautiful and special new post! Even in her most intimate moments, Laurie sang with her entire being. She was no mere singer, she really was something entirely full. She gave a part of herself every time she performed.
Oh that voice !!!!!
So lovely…… Hearing her sing again, Always wraps her love around my heart, Gentle tears filled my eyes, and a montage of her circles, my brain……
Hello Flo. I sent you a friend request on FB. I would love to speak with you when you have some time. Thank you!
She could surely sing. Was crazy about her voice! I first fell in love with her at the Entermedia Theater when she was the Narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat during which she blew the roof off of the place. Later, I was lucky to sub on the Rodgers and Hammerstein revue, "Some Enchanted Evening" directed by Jeffrey Moss, choreographed by Barbara Siman Strouse, musical direction by Larry Hochman with a cast of Ernestine Jackson, Marty Vidnovic, Lauren Mitchell and Laurie. She absolutely killed on "I Have Dreamed" as a belt ballad. And I subbed for her once to do a concert at Jim Wilhelm's request (Jim loved Laurie as much as Richard Jay-Alexander did) somewhere not too far from NYC. What a treat and pleasure it was to play a whole evening for her. When I was learning Cats, she was Grizabella on Broadway. She came by the orchestra box and said, "Well, I don't think I have but about 800 more of these in me." She was one talented, vibrant, passionate lady. She is greatly missed. Fortunately and happily, she was well-recorded by David Friedman so we can listen to her even though she has transitioned.
My days are brighter when Laurie appears in my RUclips feed. Thank you for never letting her precious memory fade.
This is a beautiful! I was there back in ‘95. I met Laurie backstage at the Keswick eight years earlier.
Beautiful!!! Makes me cry!!!!
that's like a temporal capsule but very nice tho
this too is cool
this is cool
The most exciting 60 seconds in musical theater. Man, she’s great.
Damn, I miss Laurie….gone way too soon…
One of my all time favorite singers- RIP and a great song from Hunchback too❤
She understood dynamics probably better than any singer I've ever seen. Just absolutely brilliant in where she chooses to pull back so that the big notes have more impact. Thank you for posting this...
Her gift , the most beautiful!!! Glorious!!! Crying!!
It is hard to believe, but Miss Laurie Hope Beechman entered heaven's portals 25 years ago after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She was only about 44 or 45, but left this world far too soon..
I REMEMBER THE ORIGINAL, JOEY SCARBURY FOR THE CRAZY FUN TV SHOW GREATEST AMERICAN HERO. COMP BY MIKE POST, WORDS BY STEPHEN GEYER.. LAURIE BEECHMAN NAILED THIS ONE. SINGING FOR WEBBER,. SHE HAD TO BE MORE THAN JUST A GOOD VOICE. SORRY TO SEE SHE PASSED SO YOUNG. 45 IS TOO SOON.
This one is so special, it's a real Beechman favorite, so rare.
Wonderful❣️
really?
I’m not sure why Laurie said she’s from Philadelphia. I went to school with her in South Jersey.
Well, she was born there, so they say, but she grew up in Haddon Township, no?
The bar. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Cats was an awful show. I
I knew Laurie in high school. She always had great talent.
I knew Laurie in high school. We all expected great things from her. She didn’t disappoint.
What wonderful memories I have of those Ballroom concerts I had the pleasure of doing with Laurie. The first one started as two weekends and ended up being extended 14 weeks. You're posted Believe It Or Not and now You've Got Me. Do you happen to have the films of the whole concerts? I would love to see them.
I do indeed.
@@LaurieB43 Any chance I could see it. Laurie's artistry was so in its prime and the musical and personal experience were both extraordinary.
Hi David. I sent you a message through FB messenger. Gary
David your showcasing Laurie in Joseph and those cabaret shows and her albums are something I shall always treasure forever. I love all your songs as well
What a lovely memory. We were supposed to do two Friday and Saturday nights after our "Joseph &..." performances and it turned into 14 sold out weekends. This is Laurie at the height of her powers. It's wonderful to remember her this way.
I went to high school with Laurie. We knew she would be a star.
THANK YOU Laurie you will always BE A STAR !!🙏💛
So touching, so magical! And when one is gifted with an ability to actually deeply feel what the words are saying, and bring us along on her journey, it shows us that she didn't have to always use that powerful voice to draw us into her world of music! She was an artist that painted the most fabulous pictures! *smiles*
Thanks for uploading Linda's performances. Never got a chance to see her in person. But I can imagine how she would hold an audience in the palm of her hand. I used to listen to her everyday on my walks around a reservoir. How I loved listening while walking. Never got tired of that beautiful voice!
Linda?
I play this every year on the beach. I lost the copy I had and now I have this! It's such a beautiful song to play while j watching the waves and nature.
One of the most beautifully tender live songs Laurie did. Like the production stage manager once told me who taught her Fantine for the tour and Bway "she was way down there on the stage of the Broadway theater and I was up in the spotlight booth, but you felt she was singing ONLY to you, it was that intimate."
Really beautiful!
i haven't seen this in years. Oh my heart!
RIP, Laurie. Too young to go.
It's sad that Nancy LaMott and Laurie Beechman, who are both known for this song, died within a little over two years of each other, in their early mid 40s, of uterine and ovarian cancer, respectively.
Wonderful song sung by Laurie and great review by Stewart Klein. Thanks for sharing
