Time-- the present... Trying to escape an unpleasant past, Orthodox Jewish mom Miriam Akneen moves with her son Daniel to the outskirts of the religious community, where it borders a tough Latino one. With no father around, Daniel has trouble adjusting until forming an unlikely friendship with local handyman Sam Collins, who teaches Daniel about the father of modern boxing-- a Jew who commanded respect while still holding firm to his identity. In turn, Daniel takes the lessons he's learned and helps his mother stand up to her own demons and bullies.
