Can’t find russets or cox’s in the shops
Should be available later in the season, September / October 😉
😬just making sure you know that if you don’t cut he flower stalks off when they appear you will lose a lot of growth speed and bigger traps. But if you’re trying to get seeds to produce more it’s ok👍
Cheers for the heads up Alex, I was hoping to get a few seeds and increase my stock. Carnivorous plants are fairly new to me so appreciate any advice 😃🌱
@@Gardenguru604 no problem 👍I’ll help with any thing
Nice video! thank you!
Thank you so much for your feedback and happy you enjoyed the video 😃🪴
How is this possible???
@@user-uk9ul5ym2y hopefully it will get pollenated and produce seeds🤞 it would be great to grow some baby Venus fly traps 😃🌱

@@samiasourobibristy1976 😃🌱 hope I get some seeds after the flowers 🤞
If you use radiant heat to save your plants from the cold this way, it's about heat radiation, not about convection. Remove all obstacles between the heat source and each plant, or place the plants around the heater in a circle if possible. To make sure that little radiation escapes for cheap, using tin foil as a mirror can help. Fix it to the greenhouse walls on ground level. or around the circle of plants. Helps with plant survival and cost effectiveness (less tealighters needed. We saved a small olive tree from -13 degrees Celsius by wrapping it in a sack (for potatoes I guess) twice and placing the pot in a corner free of wind chills next to the house. This might not an option for smaller, more fragile plants though.
@@FrogFWK thank you for your comment frog, it did produce a fair amount of radiant heat. I think if I insulated my glasshouse and retained more of the produced heat it would certainly be more effective. I would only use this type of heater in the glasshouse and not in my home. Thinking of using bubble wrap in the glasshouse to insulate this winter. 😊🌱
@@Gardenguru604 That's an option. Another cheap one is to place the pots onto the styro foam from package material. Actual styro plates are better for a group of pots, both options are not "green" and have to be stored somewhere after wintertime or disposed.
@@FrogFWK great suggestion, I try to recycle and reuse as much as possible. I use the air filled bags that are sometimes used as packing, they help to insulate quite well too. Bulky to store though in the months not needed.
@@Gardenguru604 It's always a problem. No matter how much you've got, there's always too little space :) I remember ppl in our local gardens using actual old windows incl. frames, building rows of tents consisting of 2 "triangled" windows above their fruit & vegetables to get some sort of greenhouse effect and protection. Pretty heavy lifting every time, but they worked for the purpose.
@@FrogFWK yes there are some amazing innovative folk about when it comes to growing plants. Plenty of inspiration for prospective growers. I’m hoping to get a larger greenhouse in the future. Black water barrels are a good way to absorb the heat through the day and keep the temperature higher over night from the warmth of the sun. I’ve been given an old paraffin heater too, so that’s my next project… get it in working order before the winter arrives 😃👍
Very funny 😁
Glad you enjoyed it 😂🫛
Can you plant the stem and it will grow a new plant?
No the stem would rot, you would have to spilt the roots to propagate it 😉
@@Gardenguru604 does that mean as long as I dig it out at the root I can then plant it in a large pot?
@@cameronpeach5534 the plants get so big they would need to be split and planted in the ground rather than in a pot. They are a marginal plant meaning they like to be planted at the edge of a pond or in a damp area. Gunnera tinctoria and G. × cryptica. Both are considered invasive and should not be cultivated in the uk. hope this answers your question Cameron 😊
@@Gardenguru604 many thanks!
@@cameronpeach5534 my pleasure, happy gardening 🧑🌾 😊🌱
❤❤😂
Where are you growing this?
Hey Sam, in the uk 🇬🇧 this plant likes to grow near water and is giant! 😃
❤❤
What kind of soap or washing liquid did you use and how much of it and water? Thank you .
Hi thanks for your question, no specific brand of washing up liquid just a cheap one. Just enough washing up liquid to generate some bubbles. I use a small spray bottle and then spray the affected area “aphids” then leave 24hrs and repeat if needed. Hope this helps 😊🪴
Thats a lovely color!!!😍
It is very eye catching 😃 just love growing all plants 🌱 thanks for your comment collector of memories and I’m glad you liked it!
Hermosa!!! ❤❤
Thanks for the comment 😃
You know the Terra Cotta pots do absolutely nothing to give off or produce more than the tea light candles by themselves. It's impossible. The first law of thermodynamics. That's like basic high school physics. You would get the same amount of heat without the pot.......
Thanks for the comment Benny, it was worth a try as I have lots of tender plants and would give anything a go to get them through the winter. I’d seen someone else on RUclips and thought I’d give it a try. Just found an old paraffin heater so going to renovate it and try that 👍

What a beauty
For such a small cacti it has a big attitude with all the apricot flowers! Hoping to grow it on as the blooms will get better each year. Thanks for the comment 😊
Everything looks really healthy ❤
Thanks for your comment 😊 yes most of the plants are looking pretty good. The slugs have damaged some of the seedlings but that’s to be expected. What’s your favourite plant on the video?

Wow, what a beautiful garden. I bet it's amazing when everything comes in bloom. Love the scarecrows 😂
Yes it is! Really nice for a wander, it’s very popular though so be prepared for lots of folk enjoying the grounds. I’m hoping to head back later in the season when I have more time 😊 thank you for your comment!
@@Gardenguru604 do post again when you go back.
Hello from California, those burls on the redwood contain thousands of dormant clones of the tree. Thanks for getting out and showing us the early flowers and budding plants. Those that wait till dead of summer to go to a garden are missing out.
Hello and thanks for the message and information on the burls, I’d never seen that before. Spring is a great time to get out and enjoy the gardens and we enjoyed having a wander around Ness. What’s California like in the spring?
The last one have micro spikes. How you take it with bear hands?
I do wear gloves normally but the micro spikes didn’t stick in me. I do have some cacti that I’d definitely wear gloves with Thanks for the comment 😊
My cacti was begging for water and then it shriveled and died.
I’m in the uk so any water before April will cause the cacti to rot. Most cacti will shrivel as they experience long periods of drought In their natural environment. Are you sure it’s perished? Hopefully not 🤞🌵
Lovely plants! I just got a pinecone cactus in the mail that was shipped wet. Got it into a dry chunky mix ASAP. Fingers crossed!
Hi 👋 thanks for your comment Hopefully the dry mix will draw the moisture away from the roots, fingers crossed your cacti will be happier 😊🌵clay pots are good too 😉
Interesting plants.
Yeah I thought so too, hopefully the roots with dry out now they’re in clay pots 🤞
Looks really nice. Enjoy watching
Glad you enjoyed it, loads to see even in February 😃🌱

It’s definitely on the way! It’ll be wonderful to have everything growing again 😃
glad I caught your video, totally forgot to sew mine due to the two weeks of constant storms here ( central scotland). The last couple of years Ive managed to grow mine from saved seeds from shop bought ones , also successfully grew peas from the dried box of peas ( bigga brand I think) . nice video thanks
Yeah you guys have had it rough with the weather up there. Hopefully the weather will settle a bit for you 🤞 That’s great you’ve managed to grow from dried peas and seeds from shop bought peppers! I managed to grow a healthy crop of potatoes that had started to sprout in the bag. Thanks for your comment and I’m really happy you’re enjoying the video 😃🌱

@@Gardenguru604 what a beautiful bird
How fabulous! This past year I rehauled our front beds to include more winter interest, and I included the staghorn sumac and witch-hazel since both are native to my area. Great to see them at such a size here, and I can only hope mine do so well!
Thanks for your comment Joss, yes great plants for winter interest. There are some gorgeous red flowered witch hazels. You can put mulch on the beds this time of year to reduce weed growth and add organic matter to your beds, this will aid your newly planted shrubs and trees 😉
There really nice gardens. Nice day trip.
Yeah the gardens are lovely, probably not the best time to view them so will head back spring/summer 😊
Waiting on the plum tree. 👍
Yeah wait until summer to prune your stone fruits, plums, damsons and cherries 🍒 The sap will seal the cuts and prevent silver leaf disease 😉
