RIP Walter Davis, the man with a picture perfect mid-range jump shot
Walter Davis was a 6-6 shooting guard/small forward from North Carolina. He was a six-time All Star, and one of my favorite players. He died on Oct. 2, 2023 of natural causes while visiting family in Charlotte.

Critics claim Dr. J. was a lousy shooter outside the paint. It's true that his outside shot was inconsistent, and he wasn't a great shooter like Bird or Jordan. But you don't score 30K points on dunks and finger rolls alone. Doc scored about 12K points in the ABA, and 18K points in the NBA. He shot nearly 51 percent from the field, and about 78 percent from the free-throw line. He rarely shot t...
This was Larry Bird's favorite move, and nobody could stop it.

At nearly 6-10, Bird's bump, turn, and fade from the right side was his favorite shot. And he used that shot to set up drives to the basket and passing options. Especially to Robert Parish and Kevin McHale. And before that, to Cedric Maxwell. Be sure to subscribe, because that's what I'll show you in the next video.

Doc played when there was no block/charge circle, the defense could handcheck, and big men tried to block dunks, not “make business decisions.”

Dr.J's one handed slam was unlike any other. He did it a lot. Dr. J was like, "Yeah, you're tall, but I'm the best athlete in the building and I can jump over you."

Dr. J. The funkiest dunker EVER!! I remember when I used to dunk like him. 40 years ago. 😂😂😂 I was only around 5’11” and 18 year old when I first dunked on a 10’ rim. I had the Kareem Sky Hook and the Dr. J dunk. I was unstoppable back then. Now at 58 years old, I just hover. 😂😂😂

He had the huge hands, power, and tremendous hops. My only knock is style. I just watched 7:18 of the same dunk. Not one two hand funk? Besides that rock the baby vs the Lakers i didn't see a different in game dunk from J. Mike, Vince, Nique, and the guys after gave more variations. But still salute 🫡 to one of the above the rim KINGS.

@edwells4769 Lebron keeps getting offer😢up as the possible GOAT. Took him 20 years to match DrJ in total rebounds. He's not even close in rebounds per game, steals per game or blocks per game. He may be the GOAT of longevity but his stats don't measure up to the greats.
