The first time I annotated I just went crazy with the tabs and colour coding and writing in the margins. I found for me it wasn't fun in practice keeping up with all of it while reading. So now I just have a grey lead pencil, rubber and one or two colour tabs while I read the book and then I'll go back in after I finish with all the colours etc. if I feel like it.
