      Hi Geoff, thanks for the follow. To be honest my fingerpicking skills are not the greatest and I've always found what is referred to as as 'two finger' picking ie thumb and first finger and on this video it's a pretty standard simple roll of thumb and finger. Just my own view is that with fingerpicking it's best to find a pattern that suits you and also the song you are doing rather than any prescibed patter ie thumb then a certain finger on a certain string etc to me the emotion in a song will always give you were to places accented thumb or finger pick. I hope that helps a bit and there;s defo some real uke finger picking maestros out there worth checking out who more advanced styles and info. bets wishes, Tel

      John thanks for the follow. The strings on the wooden tenor reso are standard GCEA (low G), The Beltona was strung with metal strings GCEA but do check if your own instrument is strong enough to cope with metal strings if you go down that route. The wooden tenor is GCEA. The final uke (baritone) is DGBE string set returned to CGCG. Hope that helps!

    What strings can I get to put my baritone in low g CEA instead of DGBE?

    • @telsmith6688
      @telsmith6688 Год назад

      What I've been using for a while is set from The Southern Ukulele store here in the UK who make up a bespoke set which I believe the low G comes from a classical guitar set. I used to use a set made by Aquilla which were called 'GCEA for baritone' but I tried finding them recently online but no luck apart from ones that had a Hi G. I'm not sure if Aqullia still make the set with a low G but if you like their strings maybe worth doing some googling. There may be other excellent sets out there that people could advise you on but these are the only two I have personal experience of.

    Hi! On the resonator uke, have you raised the nut, in order to use slide?

    • @telsmith6688
      @telsmith6688 Год назад

      Thanks for the question. I did try this uke with a raised nut but it affected how it played when playing it in regular non slide. So I lowered it to the regular setting and to be honest it was fine. Just personally I think the biggest difference is by using a glass slide on a uke as metal ones seem just too weighty on the nylon strings and you can get a lot of fret buzz. Good luck with your uke sliding!

    What strings do you use on your Kala resonator for slide?

    • @telsmith6688
      @telsmith6688 Год назад

      Hi Edmund, on this wooden bodied Kala I use and standard G (Low) CEA set by Aquilla which I think give a nice rounded and warm sound. On another tenor resonator I have by Beltona I currently use 'Worth Browns' which as I'm trying to get a slightly more snappier sound on that instrument. On my baritone resonator I use D'Addario 'Titanium's. Hope that helps and apologies for the late response!

      Just my own opinion but I'd say not to. Uou can get specific string sets called 'GCEA for baritone' which I think would be a much better option. The two I know of are by Aquilla or The Southern Ukulele Store in the UK also sell there own which I mostly use on my baritone I have in GCEA.

    • @telsmith6688
      @telsmith6688 2 года назад

      Hi Tom, thanks for the follow and kind feedback. Apologies for the late reply too! I don't have chord diagrams as the chords are so simple and to play in other keys you just use the same shapes and a capo. But I can very quickly explain them main four here. C is either just all open strings or you can fret the 3rd string 5th fret which gives a really powerful and harmonic C chord. The F is either a bar across the 5th fret or you can fret the 3rd and 1st string at 2nd fret. G is either a bar across the 7th fret or 4th and 2nd string second fret. The relative minor chord is 4th string 4th fret and 2nd fret 2nd string. As it's an open tuning to play in different keys you just need a capo so for the key of D you capo the 2nd fret etc. Hope that helps. Tel

    Wow love the sound of this baritone ! I have only been playing for a little over 2 months. Started with a concert, then just bought a beautiful Kala tenor SMHT. Also found a used Hamano concert for $10 :) My husband doesn't understand why one needs more than one ukulele :) But I think a baritone is going to have to go on my list for the future. As long as I tune it to GCEA I will not get confused switching over. I would like a low G too I think.

    Thank you so much for this performance. I often end my internet sessions by listening to this song. I was checking out you CGCG ukulele tuning, and found ths as well. I was originally intersted in DAD dulcimer tuning, but found advide from Bing Futch and Jessica Comeau to consider the earlier, and fulller one note lower sound of CGC, I just picked up a vintage baritone ukulele, and was considering different types of open tunings, as well as CGDA, GDEA, GDAD, rentrant DGBE, and was wondering if I could somehow use the four upper strings of DADGAD tuning.. But your post reminded me of CGC tuning again.. .. which after all, sounds really good...and then again, DADGAD, i.which is kind of hard to sound bad in, is not all that far from DAD... and its one step down, CGC, which is even fuller... and to my ears, better. Thank you again!!

      Thanks for the follow Robert and your kind words about the performance. Really interested in your comments as before playing uke I used to primarily play guitar in a Celtic band so almost exclusively in DADGAD. After quite a bit of experimentation with tunings to try and get as close to that as I could I found CGCG on the baritone for me worked best. Have fun with it and really hope it works for you too. • @telsmith6688
      @telsmith6688 3 года назад

      The main reasons I play OT's on the bari is for certain types of music such as Old Time, Celtic nd blues it can give you a bit more space and freedom to fit in some extra picking within the chord. The main tunings I use are CGCE, CGCG, DGBG and DGCD all depending what seems to work with the particular song best. Hope you enjoy giving OT's on the bari a try. Good luck with the playing.

    • @en3usiastfortesque368
      @en3usiastfortesque368 3 года назад

      For me it's all about depth of sound......there is enough difference between Tenor and Baritone to justify owning both. There is also the difference in scale length.....making some things easier to play on Baritone......

    • @telsmith6688
      @telsmith6688 3 года назад

      I guess it depends on the scale length and body size of the baritone and tenor you are comparing but I'd say the bari would generally give you a mellower and fuller tone. I tend to stick to low G on the bari when use GCEA as I want to work with something not re-entrant as I use the low G for 'bass' with my thumb particularly on blues.
