Cordovox... now this brings back memories. Those were popular for awhile in the early days of electronic accordions starting around late 60s as I recall. They were monsters (heavy and bulky) and all the additional equipment amps, etc. added to the mass. Later accordions added internal organs (think the electronics were Yamaha). I got one of those when they finally incorporated MIDI controllers and still have one although 10 years ago my Roland 8X Dallape became my instrument of choice for a digital accordion. I still have acoustic accordions also ;-)

He was a big influence for me.... got me interested in electronic accordions besides my acoustic accordions. Had a few different models he played and now Roland 8X Dallape. RIP to a great accordionist.

I am the author of the book A BRIEF, COMPREHENSIVE HISTORY OF THE CORDOVOX AND OTHER ELECTRONIC ACCORDIONS and the article PILGRIMAGE TO ACCORDIONLAND (L’Italo Americano newspaper-Los Angeles, website/my name). During my ongoing collaboration with the Museo Internazionale Della Fisarmonica, I had the unexpected opportunity and pleasure of interviewing Maestro Gervasio Marcosignori at the Museum during one of my visits in August, 2012. One of the curators, Fabio Petromilli, insisted on calling his cousin Paolo Petromilli, who urgently drove Mr. Marcosignori to the museum. When he arrived, I told the Maestro about my background as a singer and accordionist and about my early introduction to the first generation Cordovox in 1967. The Maestro took great pleasure in this discourse and responded to every subsequent question and point of discussion gleefully, sharing with me many highlights of his work on producing and introducing the Cordovox to the music loving public. I asked “Gervasio” many, many questions and verified many of my findings and deductions, which amazed him, for no one had ever made the effort of researching and documenting the history of the magnificent Cordovox. I had “struck gold”, for he was truly the father of the Cordovox project for the Farfisa/Scandalli and Lowrey companies. The interview started in the middle of the afternoon and turned into a discussion that, after museum hours, moved to the local bar/caffe and lasted until dusk. All of the written material and photographs were used in my book and article, and I am eternally grateful for this incredible encounter. I had one of these very earliest electronic accordions. It was very heavy and frankly the electronic sounds were primitive. Later Gervasi went to a couple of newer generations as I did also Later the MIDI accordions became popular and I upgraded to one of those also (MIDI II Plus) and I still have it but rarely play it. About 10 years ago I moved to a Roland 8X which is what I was really hoping for after years of new development. I sill love to play my acoustic tone chamber/ converter free bass accordions also but it is a lot of fun to play the Roland and my audience loves what I can do with it..

I saw Gervasio playing in San Francisco on this very accordion. That was my introduction to digital accordions. He was amazing. I was impressed and bought an identical MIDI II plus accordion that I still have after all these years but moved on to a Roland 8X Dallape about 10 years ago. Technology has moved on with amazing developments in electronic accordions but the performer still needs great skill to get the most from their instrument whether pure acoustic or digital. I love my acoustic dual tone chamber converter free bass but the digital accordion can allow the player so much more additional tools to use in their performance. Not all love digital of course but to me it is the natural development in an instrument which has only been around for 120 years or less. I am also an organist, pipe and electronic, but LOVE the accordion and what it is capable of in the hands of a very good performer.
