I tried the free spin to see if it worked and I was able to see an ad and got a free spin. One assumption is that it may depend on what country you live in. I personally didn't purchase gems, points or or use free ads. I literally played repeatedly restuarants like Rock & Roll Bar that gives a good amount of points till I accumulated enough points and gems to go through the game more efficiently. The other assumption I think why the free ads don't work could be they want you to purchase gems or points which you really don't have to do.

I've watched other Cooking Fever videos and noticed that a lot of their restuarants look a lot different than what I have. I believe it could be an app upgrade.
