It's great to hear the excitement in your voice as you talk about your running future. That assault had to be traumatic, but you are clearly not letting the bastard grind you down. I also ran the Iron Horse in 2019. Super fun downhill, even if the flat final section seemed uphill after all of that cruising.

I want to run it this year, how is elevation gain?
Not too bad, around 10,000ft. There’s a pretty big climb around mile 34, but honestly most of the vert is in the back half. People told me the back half is harder than the front and they were totally right.

im running it this year.. Any specific advice for it?
Yay you're gonna have a blast! It's super runnable and it isn't too verty until the back half during the night. The REAL big climb that I remember is after mile 34, so take that one easy and cram in calories. The terrain gets more technical during the night, somewhere after mile 70 (I just looked at the website and the course is different from when I ran it!). Take your time there cause it's rocky and the trail can pretty narrow at times. The dirt is very fine, like moondust. I would recommend bringing gaiters for your shoes (I didn't cause I didn't know any better), and a buff for your face if you do happen to encounter it. I was coughing pretty bad as you saw.

I'm running this race next weekend (my first 50-miler! but it'll be the OPPOSITE weather, super hot and sunny!) and this video is calming my many anxieties. You're so organized - I'm totally stealing some drop bag tips! Thank you for sharing what it was like out there and congrats on a solid and speedy 50M!!
It’s an awesome race! If it wasn’t the same weekend as Tiger Claw, I would do it again. I’ve honed in on my drop bag technique since Sun Mountain 50! I used a gallon sized freezer bag and made sure I had at least 1,000 calories in each bag. If it’s hot: Ice in the sports bra, ice bandanas, and getting water poured all over are the keys to staying cool. I used it at Wy’East Howl, OC100, and Tiger Peak 😊
