  • @ekszentrik
    @ekszentrik 5 месяцев назад

    I am not a creative type by profession. My specialization is more CS and philosophy (and I am a programmer). If you wonder what I, the tech-affine type, would suggest, it is kinetically intervening. The whole AI thing has a singular origin and thus also failure point, which is GPUs. AI is mostly based on massive matrix multiplications, which are infeasible with regular CPUs. So the entire AI boom globally essentially rides on the back of one singular company, which is Nvidia. As said, perhaps AI of this kind is beneficial to the human race, but -- plotting gain vs. social/cultural cost -- it's happening too fast. It needs to be slowed down. This is my main point, never mind the whole "AI good/bad" senseless faux-debate, the only thing we should be discussing is the pace it's happening. Thus, we need to kinetically intervene to at least reduce the expansion rate of the hardware basis of the AI boom. Regular ordnance delivery aerially would do the trick, since I do not expect Nvidia to have anti-air installations on the premises as of this time; however, in a pinch also regular truck bombs could be utilized. This, naturally, would have to be a sustained campaign perhaps inspired by the IRA struggle (though ideally it would be backed by state actors).

      This is the truth people don't want to admit. People say "AI can't actually understand anything it's just a parrot." You can debate whether that is true or not, and it depends on what definition of understanding you use. But, practically, that doesn't matter. It doesn't need to understand things according to your arbitrary definition to replace human jobs and be a massive asset (or a massive danger) to humanity.

    You do realize that for most of our history, we haven't able to verify 'reality' with the use of hard-to-fake media. The world ran on word-of-mouth mostly. Most people today also learn information based on a chain of trust, but media (like photo and video) added quite a bit of objectivity to that image, just because they were so hard to fake. We will lose that part, we will not lose the chain-of-trust though. I don't think 'industries' have rights of existence, I'm more in favor of people having a right to artistic expression. These technologies make it easier for many people to express themselves in media which had high barriers to access (skill-wise or money-wise), like cellphone camera's democratized photography. In general, I think that is a good thing.

  • @ladyattis
    @ladyattis 6 месяцев назад

    I highly doubt it'll replace the current film production process for multiple reasons. A big one for me is retraining and retooling. This part is hard to do since it takes years for new tools regardless of industry to trickle down. It can be heavy industry (chip making), service industries (fast food), or even software development. If you have to retool your entire process then you're not going to see a total replacement or even a significant partial replacement since retraining and retooling is just an enormous effort. I'm sure the big film companies will try as hard as possible since they're all ran by idiots to ram rod this tech into every film but eventually production houses will go like "yeah, nah..." and go back to normal until one or two production houses take the risk on themselves and improve the tools and the process themselves. OpenAI isn't going to be the company to do that since I've never seen any talk from their CEO about opening a media production company in any field (TV, film, streaming, etc). They're more about making the platform that someone else will eventually commodify for them. They just make bank from the patents and media buzz.

    • @nyxstarlight
      @nyxstarlight 6 месяцев назад

      I think that is a fair point; I don't think it's going to be an immediate change. To say that all film productions will change within the next year or two would be an exaggeration. However, it should be noted that the change with incorporating AI is much faster than expected. Recently, there have been so many layoffs within the gaming industry and the bigger tech companies because of AI. We've seen it already with Wacom, Riot, Windows, Blizzard, and many others. I don't think the retraining process is as difficult this time around because all you really need is someone who is literate and able to type words. It would be an exaggeration to say this will replace all creative jobs; however, a majority of creative jobs are being replaced blatantly already. If anything, this tech makes it a lot easier for independent and smaller studios to take on larger projects because they won't have to pay as many artists as normal.

    • @ladyattis
      @ladyattis 6 месяцев назад

      The real problem is that such tools are better at being force multipliers so that artists are freed up to do other work. For example, Sony Animation on Across The Spider-Verse used AI to handle the transition between facial expressions so that the animators weren’t bogged down in the process since such transitions are often repetitive enough to let a program do the work. I think the biggest problem is that animation and most effects and mixed media workers/artists aren’t protected in terms of labor laws or unionization. So I think a better solution for them is to unionize and fight like hell to not be used as cheap labor as they have been.

    • @nyxstarlight
      @nyxstarlight 6 месяцев назад

      Oh Absolutely 100% Thats why currently VFX Artists are working so hard to unionized together in order to get beeter pay standards, not working too many hours and actual credits for what they do. @@ladyattis

    • @shadowyzephyr
      @shadowyzephyr 5 месяцев назад

      @@nyxstarlight The general media didn't want people to be scared, so they invented reasons to say it won't take jobs. Not to mention all the people going on about how AI is "just a fad." But, a business' responsibility under capitalism is to increase its profits, and they know they can do that using AI. This will first free up time for artists to do other things, maybe reducing the number of artists some, but eventually it will start doing those things too, reducing the number further, and so on. I think it's very likely that eventually AI will be able to do all human jobs, but we're a while away from that point.

    • @nyxstarlight
      @nyxstarlight 5 месяцев назад

      Oh Absolutely. I think that is a much more realistic point of view. The way tha capitalism takes and abuses anything is a terrifying concept. The rate at which AI is growing, it will not suprise me if most jobs are replaced within 10 years. There are benefits to this of course, freeing up time for others to focus on things, however it comes at a cost. Eventually we as a society will have to take a look at foreign concepts like Universal Basic Income, a much more driving focus on Universal Health care and meeting basic needs. I think that will eventually be an inherent good for humanity, however the process to get there will be tough.@@shadowyzephyr

    Instead of winging about AI why not learn to work with it. Ultimately it's about creativity. If AI helps the guy that made ASTARTES to make feature film length video I'm all for it. If some indy dev similar to ENDNIGHT uses AI to help fill game map with diverse and unique locations or create realistic character models, hell yeah use it. Ultimately if you have talent and are generally creative AI will be one more tool in a tool kit.

      I totally get this sentiment as well. From my own standpoint I can totally see how it feels like you're cheating, stealing or even devaluing yourself in using AI. Every Artist's method of creating their work is their own, no one should ever tell you otherwise. Your process is important and dont try to change if you dont want to. My reconmendation might be to adapt, but for some people that isn't the case. I have many friends in ceramics, them adapting towards AI doesn't really make a whole lot of sense. At the end of the day, your process is your process. Keep creating how you want to create, and know that your work will always have value.

      Here's an odd question: "refuse to touch AI" in what way? Like, if there were a faster lasso tool that let you really quickly select objects in photoshop by typing in the name of the things (this technique is called semantic segmentation, or choosing an object in an image based on the meaning of a word), would you use it? It's "generating" and output according to a non-modality input; it's an "AI generator". What if they stealthily update the magic lasso to understand what you're trying to click on and it just starts understanding it perfectly on the first try for almost all objects? Will you stop using it? There's a different (non-AI) technique where you can take a 2D illustration, separate objects into different layers, and then paint behind certain objects. You can then create a 3D map of it in Blender and you can animate "3D" camera movements fairly easy. Would using a generative infill to add say, 1% extra backround behind each character so you can add a very minor camera pan (in for instance, a music video), *that* egregious a use of the software? How would you feel if such a feature became common in video editing software (similar to built in transitions in powerpoint software) and you didn't realize it was AI driven, but you had used it for several commissions before finding out it was done with AI? Would it...Really be that different if it was done with classical software? There's a movie Klaus, again, not done with AI, which used a custom proprietary software that allowed animators to specify angles and colors of lighting so they only had to do the flat color by hand, and they could automate light and camera movements very easily, massively increasing the scale of movie they could produce... But that software isn't available to us in any off the shelf solution. How bad would it be if someone mimicked that classical software with an AI model, so that an artist could just produce the flat color image, and the give an angle / color of light? A friend of mine was looking to make a commission, and they got super mad that they couldn't find any reference images that weren't AI generated, but I had a funny thought. "If those reference images are there due to AI image generation, doesn't that mean that it helped you convey your idea better, so that an artist could get paid for a commission? Doesn't that mean that AI helped the artist get paid?", but obviously, this is a very frustrating, scary, and difficult time for artists who got completely blindsided by something they couldn't possibly have anticipated, and it came at a time after art had been commoditized by social media platforms full of aspiring artists, and companies commissioning them with ever decreasing art budgets to improve margins. I'm not saying that AI art is glamorous. I'm not saying AI art is great. I am saying that it may not be the case that "every instance of and application of the tools produced for use with AI art are inherently harmful". If you stay informed, keep an eye out, and keep pushing forward, you might find that there are tools and ideas out there that can help you do new things, and reach new heights that you couldn't before, without compromising in the core of your process. And for me, AI (from the moment I first learned about machine learning in the early 2010s) has always been about achieving new things, finding a new plateau that no one has seen, and letting smaller groups of people do things at a scale that wasn't possible before. It was never about replacing people.

    • @Parrotcat
      @Parrotcat 5 месяцев назад

      @@novantha1 Like I said. I refuse to touch *AI generators*. And I don't use photoshop nor do I use any other programm that offers such a level of assistance, not because I think every stroke needs to be done by me but simply because they're expensive. Besides photoshop has had many such tools for years. Assistance wasn't my point. I'm not against progress, I'm against exploiting and then replacing workers. These AI generators do not seek to assist us, they were always meant to replace us. If they were meant to assist they wouldn't create a full image, video, audio, text at the push of a button. They don't help the art process, they replace it. Thinking AI is purely about innovation is a lovely sentiment. But in a world where paying artists is not profitable we will always lose to the machine that creates a picture in seconds, a picture made up of our previous unpaid works ofc. Until that changes I will not touch AI generators.

    So you're telling me I could theoretically now have this AI make a background video of your character singing... let's say "you are my sunshine" or "starry night" with incredibly authentic audio that you'd think is simply REALLY YOU singing? :))

    I doubt Curtis was head elf for that long, I guess we have no proof against it but I bet he only lasted a few years especially since Betty seems to be relatively experienced

    • @nyxstarlight
      @nyxstarlight 7 месяцев назад

      I 100% agree with that, Betty definitely was head elf for a while longer than I guess in the video. I wanted to make a lower estimate on how long she's been head elf for because of a few reasons. The major one being that we dont exactly know how long Curtis was headelf for, there is a book series that I didn't get to mention that is a novella of the 3rd movie. That book references Curtis to not actually be head elf at all, instead that Curtis was acting head elf while Bernard was away (assumed to be on Kribble Krabble). So there is conflicting information as to Curtis even being Head Elf in the first place. But I would assume that if Curtis was Head Elf, he was only Head Elf until about 2018-2019. That would give Betty the years of experience to be Head Elf. Otherwise you can put Betty's knowledge of experience on seeing 3 Head Elves come and go, that would be Toots, Bernard and Curtis.

    7:46 -- Why is Bernard going by the American Thanksgiving? The North Pole is not a part of the US and last I checked Santa's jurisdiction is the whole world (well the parts that have Santa anyway)!

    • @nyxstarlight
      @nyxstarlight 7 месяцев назад

      This is such a valid point though!! Why are they going based off these "newer" dates! Christmas being on the 25th of December is a much newer invention, same with American Thanksgiving. its such a weird concept. My guess, if anything has to do again with Father Time. IF Father time uses the ability to use time as a construct, then I would assume that any holiday during the year is a sort of boost in his power, the more holidays there are, the more people are counting down on the Holidays in general. I would also assume because Scott Calvin is American, thats why they would use the American thanksgiving vs, the Canadian one or a different holiday. That way its still a month in advance, otherwise I would think the elves would say; "You have 30 days prior ti Christmas before you need to start being Santa.
