In the book, the last movie shown is "The Kid from Texas," a 1950 Audie Murphy Western about Billy the Kid. (Murphy is Billy.) Duane and Sonny think it "a dog" and leave early. Similarly, the movie at the start is "Father of the Bride," but in the book it's "Storm Warning," a 1951 melodrama about the Ku Klux Klan starring Doris Day, Ronald Reagan and Ginger Rogers. Since Peter Bogdanovich was a film critic before he became a film director, I imagine that these changes were his idea. (Not sure about Larry McMurtry's movie tastes, but in *Duane's Depressed,* Duane reads Marcel Proust, so I suspect that his literary ones are eclectic) The best criticism makes you want to seek things out or to revisit them. Your exploration of "The Last Picture Show" makes me want to see it again...and to dip back into Stephen King's *Lisey's Story,* which uses the film as a leitmotif of sorts. So, bravo and three cheers and a tiger to you! And before I go...McMurtry has a son named James who's a songwriter. His songs are very much like his father's books. The aforementioned Mr. King uses one of them, "Talkin' at the Texaco," in *Under the Dome.* Check out his *Too Long in the Wasteland* album sometime. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

And yet in this small town where everybody knows everybody else's business, two people don't know about Sonny Crawford's affair with Ruth Popper: the coach and Jacy. It's possible that the coach is what the French call "un mari complaisant" (a husband who tolerates his wife's infidelity) but Jacy flat-out doesn't know. Maybe small towns have stage whispers just like the plays and movies.

It was originally shot in color, but the dying-town effect was lost; the location simply looked too pretty. Director Peter Bogdanovich thought black-and-white would be better, and he asked Orson Welles for advice...who said "of course you'll shoot it in black-and-white!" By 1971, color was the norm: a black-and-white film hadn't won Best Picture since "The Apartment" (1960); the four winners prior to that were all in color ("Around the World in 80 Days," "The Bridge on the River Kwai," "Gigi" and "Ben-Hur").

That’s all that matters.

The fact that the queen drew blood on the new air to the throne is normally or would normally in this time. Either be death or exiled to a convent. The fact that this woman suffered no consequences for injuring the future queen is a little bit frustrating.

James Elroy is an amazing writer & of course his mother's murder is a famous unsolved Golden era Hollywood noir story as well!!! Great reaction though, I loved watching this, one of my all time favorite films, with you!!! While this was still the weakest movie imo, it's still fun AF and definitely not a bad movie. I would say though that if they used the original cut, this movie would've been 10x better.

Viserys told Alicent he had a dream his son would rule. He also told Aemma. Alicent’s interpretation of his final words make sense in that context. Keeping Aegon’s dream a secret was stupid in the first place.

All of this is Viserys’s fault. He didn’t have to bring back Otto as hand. He named Rhaenyra heir but did nothing else to support her. He could have had Jace marry Helena. Viserys was weak. The Greens aren’t the villains. Neither side has clean hands.

It’s amazing how many reactors assume Alicent would murder Dionna. Why would she even meet with her? Just have her killed if that was the goal. Alicent isn’t a monster. She more interesting than that.

Yeah, Scream 4 was my good to go for a while. Scream 3 is when I feel for a fun trip. But now my good to go are 1, 5 and 6. I love the core 4 and the Carpenter sisters.

Scream 3 is unapologetically a horror comedy, which made it different from the others. People far too often associate drama with quality, and treat plain comedy as immature or silly. This movie's goal is to make you laugh to balance out the darkest story in Scream. Because beyond the humor it features without question the darkest killer. Roman was a child of rape and knew it, so he wanted to obliterate his entire bloodline. Milton was a stand-in for his unknown father because he participated in and/or facilitates the assault on Sydney's mother. Many folks don't actually make that connection or appreciate that revelation and where Roman's rage actually comes from. Sydney's mother was deeply troubled because of what happened to her all those years ago, and not dealing with it; just like she didn't deal with Roman when he showed up at her door. That's why they lean into the comedy because the subject matter is way heavier than a typical slasher movie.

I grew up in love with the Scream franchise. I love fan theories about the movies as well. There are two theories that Stu Macher and Charlie Walker are still alive and are playing a background role in the rest of the movies. They're both wild rabbit holes! There's tons of believable evidence! The Charlie theory also states that Kirby is in on it. It's so believable and wild! I love both Matthew Lillard and Rory Culkin! I wouldn't be mad if either theory was real! I actually want them to be real! Loved your reaction! ❤❤

I'm French and I'm overwhelmed by the fascination this movie gets in other countries. To me, it feels like it gets more love around the world than here, in its homeland. Or at least, it seems more talked about outside of France. Forereigners seem much more traumatized by it than us, who tend to see it as just another horror movie (a very interesting one, though). Actually, the fact that other countries talk about "French extremity" tells a lot. We don't see it that way, here.

If it is something you’d be into, you should search for the Scream 4 Fan Edit. It’s a (in my opinion) better version of the film. It expands with alternate opening and longer scenes, giving characters more time to breathe.

Killing Rebecca isolates Sidney even more. Making her easier to get to.

Its sad to think that Robin Williams is dead by suicide when watching this movie.

Judy is my favourite new character, next to Kirby. Especially once you learn that she's good. It makes re-watching the film so much better knowing she's just a dorky cop in love. The literal female equivalent of Dewey in Scream 1.

not only this was my first scream i watched on theater but it's also my favorite killer's motive because 'til this day it's the one that stood the test of time. emma roberts was born to be the innocent turn evil girl.

The final Wes Craven Scream. RIP The three layer deep Stab-mocking meta opening is a classic (though I wish Brit Robertson had lasted longer), and propelling Emma Roberts onto her horror journey (this was pre-American Horror Story: Coven and Scream Queens) is something we should all be thankful to Wes for. 4 is still in my top 3, and as I have no intention of watching 7, I suspect it will remain there forever 😅

Editing out Jill’s iconic victim staging was…well…a choice for sure🥴

Whew! This wasn't my favorite sequel at all. Kevin Williamson returning should have brought better results = but he clearly lost his way in writing teenagers. This batch of teen characters is nearly unwatchable, they're so poorly developed and uninteresting. The returning characters are fine. Just fine. The killer/s reveal was not great. Bad motivation. We've... maybe even already covered all this ground with previous killers. The film's best quality is its opening. Craven is still a master in his directing, his pacing, his command of New Hollywood aesthetic. There's something here but not much. _Scream 2_ and _Scream 3_ were vastly more entertaining and better suited to the strengths of the franchise.

If you love Westerns, check out "Open Range," from 2003, if you haven't seen it already. It's a really terrific film that somehow fell through the cracks and got missed by a lot of people, which is surprising when you consider it was directed by Kevin Costner and stars Costner, Robert Duvall, and Annette Bening. (Any time you have a Western with Robert Duvall in it, you've already won.)
