Просмотров 400Месяц назад
Caleb Desnoyers explodes onto the scene with a monster first half to the 2024/2025 season, locking himself in the draft's projected Top Ten.
I don't think someone like Button sees something with Frondell that you guys don't, I think you just value things a bit differently. Like there are plenty of stars in the NHL that aren't much of play drivers themselves, and wont produce much if they aren't paired up with one. For example Reinhart, Rantanen, Tavares, Robertson. So I think it's easy to envision a high ceiling for him in the right situation thanks to his great puck touch and fantastic shot, even though he's a pretty low event player on his own. And if you put yourself in the shoes of one of the teams that will pick early, then it's easy to imagine Frondell being a better pick than someone like Desnoyers just because you'll pair him up with a great play driver like Bedard, Celebrini, Eklund, Carlsson etc. While for a team in a different situation and you envision this player to end up in for example Crosby's current situation and play with a couple of Rakell and Rust type players. Then a player like Frondell will look a lot less appealing.
@bajjanitor I like this take here (Rocco replying)...we have had a lot of internal debate about Frondell and where to place him. We will have our Top 50 out in the next couple days and I feel our collective opinion on him is trending upwards. He's been excellent so far at the 5-Nations.
I hear mixed opinions on Schmidt's skating and shot. Some say both are elite. Some say neither are elite.
I think that's fair with his skating. It's decent, but since he's small it probably isnt an elite or even a high end skill for him in the NHL. I do believe the shot is elite though. We rank our skills out of 7, I have him as a 6. It's really good.
Zharovsky is so fun to watch! I totally agree with what you said. Outside the top ~20/25, there are not many players with that much upside this year. I have spent the past few weeks watching a bunch of players I had not ranked yet, and Zharovsky is the only one I want to binge watch. And his defensive game is decent, he has a very active stick. He'll most likely be in my first round on my next rankings. Great episode, as always.
There's no doubt this guy is a first round talent. The upside here is extremely high!
Good job guys !
Thanks for watching!
Carter Amico needs massive skating improvement. He'll be horribly exploited in transition in the modern NHL. Gill wouldn't make it in the NHL now. Would never draft him much less consider in the top 60.
I mean I agree his skating needs improvement, he will need it to for him to be an NHLer. However, after round 1, were looking for specific skills that can and have translated into the NHL in the past. The size package, the right hand shot, the physical play has multiple examples of working in the NHL. I disagree with the never draft him position, but I do agree teams will be mostly worried about his skating and will target that for improvement. Thanks for commenting!
Zub jensen yakemchuk is actually going to be decent. Cant wait
It's time for them to not have a Hamonic on the roster.
Great conversation guys! I'm very excited for this 2026 WJC team, as long as they pick the best players this time 😅
This team SHOULD have the most high quality talent. But I can't trust them anymore lol
I’m on the anti Ish Wozniak train. Have him late in my 2nd round. The 3 games I saw of him must have been his bad games cause I’m baffled when people speak positively of him. One game he had 1G 3A and I thought he looked terrible. 0 engagement on D and he got his points almost on accident lol. If he can be more consistent with his effort and work on his defense I can see a fine 2nd liner there, but idk about top goal scorer or high end power forward, the skill never wowed me
I think that's the issue with him. His bad games look exactly how you say above, zero engagement. When he's engaged he looks fantastic and can be an extremely physical player in the bigger body package. I've also seen him control the game when thats the case. I've also seen him be invisible. Really comes down how you feel about the lack of engagement, I can understand why he's not in the first for people, but he'll be worth the risk to someone.
Hi guys, a lot of people are still upset over the loss vs Lettonie...but in hockey, a hot goalie can steal a game all by himself. I agree though, Canada could have put together a better team for this tournament !!!
Lettonie=Latvia
Thanks for commenting! As a goalie myself (a very mediocre one) I'm well aware a hot goalie can steal a game! And the the Latvian goalie played great. However, it's the way they played and the general decisions they've made with roster construction and in game strategy coming home to roost (which were forseeable) and I'm frustrated!
Great point about roster construction.
I maybe wrong here but this world junior hockey tournament will be more decided by skills instead of size because it is only one game against one team which will give you a winner...not a 4 out of 7 format. Martone is a bigger forward...but he is not as quick as some other smaller older players. However, if he has a solid tournament, he will solidify a top3 at the next draft.
@powers1500 size can definitely play less of a factor in a one-off type game, for sure. That said, if I can be skilled AND big I'd still prefer that. I think you are right in the sense that we will see a lot more clarity at the top of the Draft once this tournament is complete. Thanks for tuning in!
I agree it's not the be all, end all in a short tournament. However, I still believe he needs to have an elite moment or two against a Team USA for instance for this team to be successful. He's the most unique player on the two teams imo. But you are right, he is not a great skater, and we need to see what that looks like at this increased level.
Great episode! I seriously wonder how high Cootes would be on public lists if he was playing for a better team. He's been one of my favorite players to watch this season. I personally have him at 12 on my board (although 15-20 is maybe more reasonnable), but I had to totally ignore his point totals. It's crazy how many times he created scoring chances for his teammates and they could not score. He's smart, his motor is elite, he skates very well, and he has a good shot. I think he projects as a middle-6 player, but there's been enough flashes of high-end playmaking imo to make me believe there might be more there.
So for me, I think anywhere 16 and after is probably reasonable for him. I still have him around 25, but as discussed, there's a few things I need to see improved. But there definitely is some more offensive upside that could be tapped into.
@DarrenBoyce That's fair! I'm probably too high on him, but he's good in areas that score well in my evaluation tool.
Whichever team wins the lottery will end up with a genuine top1 defenseman. Schaefer is a crucial foundation piece for any rebuilding team. Too bad he was not available when the habs drafted first overall back in 2022 !!!
@@powers1500 I think Schaefer is a future Norris Trophy winner. He can do it all!
He's a legitimate number 1 D in my opinion. He's the best D prospect I've seen in a while.
Great dialog on the top 6 of your lists. Especially Rocco's take on Mrtka. He sounds like Detroit's Simon Edvinsson who's also 6'6" and has a ridiculous reach that makes up for some of his inexperience. Would love to see updates to your lists over the season.
@@directionallycorrect2027 Thanks for watching! We are definitely going to keep adding to this list throughout the year and make changes pretty regularly. It's a very fluid year, going to be a lot of fun!
Sent your way via NHL Draft Pros latest vid.
Love to hear it!!! Draft Pros is a beauty! Thanks for checking us out, hope you stick around!
Nice list. I think O'brien has suffered at times at 5v5 from his teammates struggling to finish. With Vanacker back we'll see if my case holds up though. Wanna start seeing more from hensler but its a fun draft past 4.
@@lukeheintzman don't disagree with either of those comments!
I also agree! Especially earlier in the year, his teammates weren't finishing chances he was creating. Lots of room and time for him to move up! And I too would like to see some more from Hensler, especially offensively! Thanks for commenting!
O'Brien is so fun to watch and so creative, he could be a huge riser in the second half of the season!
He makes some pretty great plays out there. Really like what he brings to the table overall
@@Briserlaglace-podcast Not unreasonable at all! There's definitely runway for a good rise up the board!
all the LHJMQ players are again snobbed. Only 2 LHJMQ players are invited to the camp. The LHJMQ are the best Junior hockey league in the country win memorial cups years after years but continue to be snobbed by the deciders of the Canada hockey. Canada hockey are all anglos from Ontario and west Canada and no Quebecers. We have to change that.
Leave it to Dave Cameron to fuck up a world juniors for canada!
They haven't lost yet, let's give the team a chance. Still an extremely talented squad
Great video. As a hawks fan startin to feel necessary to get a top 4 four pick. Massive fall of from those 4 star talents.
Thanks for the comment! I'd be happy with the Top 5, but I'm very bullish on Desnoyers if I'm being honest. I think he's being undervalued in scouting circles right now.
The lads!!!!!
The Olive! Thanks for tuning in!
I don’t think Jackson Smith will be a controversial top 15 pick, at all. I think he’s going to be a no-brainer, consensus top 15 pick. The variance in opinions are simple the correct ones and the incorrect ones. 😂
@Trent-In-Gilbert I'm not 100% sold on "no-brainer" just yet, but if we were ranking exclusively based on tools and upside then yes he's top-15 for sure. Long season still and plenty of talented kids this year. Thanks for tuning in and dropping a comment!
Thanks for replying Trent! If it makes you feel any better, he is in my top 15!
