    What filament is best

    • @thefilamentcorner
      @thefilamentcorner Месяц назад

      I can't really say what the best is. There is a lot of filament I've never used. I can just tell you what I've used before. ABS works well outside and can be acetone smoothed for a smooth look. I've found it can be picky on how it's printed, like a heated build chamber. At home, I run PETG. It's fussy in its own way, but I found it works on my open machines. It also works outside as well. The cathedral style hive is made with PETG. It doesn't melt or deform outside, unlike PLA. I've had PLA deform outside before. I've also used carbon fiber PC filament some. I limit how much I use as it can chew out nozzles. I run strong steel nozzles from microswiss, but even that will wear over time. Hope it helps.

    It is a male bee victim of varroa mites, treat your hives my friend

    • @thefilamentcorner
      @thefilamentcorner Месяц назад

      I treated my hives before I ended up losing them all a few years back. Both ended up swarming and didn't requeen properly sadly. I've not bought any new bees, these bees came from feral colonies possibly my own former bees. I catch a few every year and sadly even treating won't eliminate the mites coming from those feral colonies. The mite virus spreaders are here to stay. I just hope giving the carpenter bees housing opportunities on my property instead of trapping and killing them will have a beneficial effect in my yard.

    New subscriber here🖐🏻 I live way down in Deep South Texas a couple of blocks from the Mexican border. We rarely get cold weather down here. When would you recommend a good seed planting time be for me done here. By the way, you have an amazing garden. Much love and respect

    • @thefilamentcorner
      @thefilamentcorner 2 месяца назад

      I would look at when you have the highest chance of running into cold weather. I'm talking like in the 50F or lower. Start your seed in a good window between that time and the real summer heat. Extreme heat can also hurt your plants. Superhots take time so keep this in mind and I have found some varieties are slower. Those Purple Ghost Scorpions are always slow a small. Despite being started at the same time as the rest of the plants. I recommend joining a group for pepper growers. Not only can they give you information. Like possibly other growers near you, sharing how they grow. To also trading for pepper seed. I'm currently in the discord PLC Pepper Lovers Community. If you have discord you can find me in that group under Spring & Larry. They also have a Facebook group a reddit group. I don't mind giving you some seed through you sending me a self addressed and stamped envelope, If you message me through discord. I don't want to publicly put my address out on here. Thanks for watching.

      I did some research and found we only have 2 carpenter bees listed in the state. X. virginia, The only carpenter bee I've seen and currently have nesting on my property. Then x.micans which is all black, If this is a carpenter bee it's the smallest one I've ever seen. They look to maybe be about honeybee size or slightly larger. Much smaller than the other carpenter bee. Would say possibly a worker like a bumble bee, but I don't think carpenter bees make worker females like a colony of bees. Anyways you have given me something to think over.

    • @thefilamentcorner
      @thefilamentcorner 4 месяца назад

      Like I told Paul on his comment, it has pros and cons. I would like to go a bit further if I had the money, with high quality weed barrier and mulch. Would make it last longer and help keep light penetration down. Not all tarps or barriers are made equal. Thin tarps let too much light hit the ground and the seed/plants under the tarp can still grow. I found out from experience. Thanks for watching.

    Spanky that's cool. There are many types of native bee that live in the ground, the males emerge first and hang around waiting for a female to emerge a day or two later then they try to mate.if she's receptive which is alot of the time. There is even alkaline bees which people make massive ground hives for them to help pollinate their fields. It's really cool. A book on pdf is managing alternative pollinators. It's a really cool look into them. Thks for the vid.

      I find them interesting as well. Only ground dwellers around my house is yellow jackets sadly. I assume I would need to preform some kind of terrain change to make the clay here more appealing. They do a lot of ground work at the park where these bees live.

      Hello, I built this hive from the 3D files to the actual printed box. I've not posted the files up anywhere online. From making this hive I have plenty of design changes I would make if I were to do anything new. I've just not had any time or desire to do anything else regarding the cathedral style hive. I've also just been curious as to how a honey bee colony would function if possible, in a 3d printed environment. I don't plan on releasing any files anytime soon, however I know of some people who have released files related to honeybee hives. @PrintableScience has some files up on thingiverse for a 3D Printed 3 Frame Nucleus Bee Hive. You can check his video out and follow the link to thingiverse. Teddy Hatcher @bigchessset has made a beautiful indoor wall mount observation hive. You can check his videos out and Part 9 3D Printed Indoor Bee Hive has a link to the files on Printables. I was also recently informed about Hex hives being a thing. Pretty certain you can buy the print files from their website. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.
