Life compared to paradise would definitely seem a downgrade. Buffy was done but her friends just couldn't let go and to her she must feel as though she was being pubished.
I wonder sometimes how this season would have played out if she’d spoken like this to Tara from the get-go… not saying Tara cared more than Spike, certainly not, but I think Buffy would have been more open to accepting help and guidance from Tara. And then maybe her relationship with Spike could have been much less toxic - if she had an ally other than him to lean on.
Maybe I’m alone in this opinion but I don’t think it’s nothing wrong for resurrecting someone from heaven, like it’s not like your gonna live forever you’ll go back there eventually
Having watched Angel and seeing how the Powers That Be are not actually benevolent makes me think that when Buffy was in “heaven” could have been similar to what everyone on Angel experienced with Jasmine’s love. Maybe Buffy felt at peace but her essence was actually being fed on by some god being. The way Buffy describes being ripped away from “heaven” is like what the characters who see Jasmine’s true face and the harsh reality of the world feel having lost the bliss of knowing Jasmine’s love. That “heaven” was an illusion and Buffy deserved better.

@@cetkatI think in the world of Buffy and Angel, the Powers That Be were not involved for the good of humans at all. Buffy showed us the death of one god, Angel showed us the death of a god and the dampening of another god’s abilities. If there was a greater power that ruled them all or controlled the rules of the universe, that greater god could have stepped in and fixed things at any time. Slayers were called to clean up the messes that were created by the chaos a greater god being let happen. The demons predated humans if I’m not mistaken, and gods only liked humans because of the worship and power it gave them over them. I don’t know whether Buffy just put off the inevitable, but her being on earth was for the greater good of humans and earth needed her. She did however deserve real peace and happiness for all the saving she did.

I understand what buffy means along time ago when I was at my lowest and darkest moments in my depression I secretly tried taking my own life and before I woke up inside a hospital I was finally feeling peaceful I wasn't feeling no more pain but then when I did woke up all the pain came back, after that I didn't try again I just became numb I put on a fake smile and pretend to happy and okay in front of people

If I may ask; are you against medication, have you tried everything? There are people with whom the current treatments simply don't work, but I wouldn't want you to unconditionally accept the status quo either.. there are even treatments like ketomine, opioids, and even some psychedelics (at very low doses) that have shown promise in studies. I believe ketomine has even reached regular treatment protocols now. There is a balance between necessary acceptance, and yet still trying, that can be found.
I think about this scene a lot. The mental health of a Slayer isn’t talked about enough, because they are portrayed as these mystical warriors who can fight anything. But let’s all remember..they are still human. Who were activated at 15, the emotional intelligence of a teenage girl is at its highest and fragile at that time. But 1,000s of years ago that wouldn’t give a rats ass about that. So it’s very hidden from the human eye. And the only way to get out of the pain of being “the chosen one” is to die, and her friends didn’t understand that. They just brought her right back to that pain so they could play hero’s and have Buffy thank them (especially Willow) so they could have their friend back. And I know that thought she was in hell because of the portal she jumped in. But not ONCE they didn’t think “Maybe she ended off in Heaven? She did save us by killing herself?” And ANYONE could see that Buffy is hiding her pain, But Spike is the ONLY one who could see it.. Not even Dawn who found Buffy on that ledge again..who turned around and asked her if this was hell.. I wouldn’t sleep if my sister just asked me that. And THAT she had to break out of her casket and dig herself out of her grave was horrific. In season 1 Buffy said that her fear was to be buried alive. And I wished Spike would have said something to them after he saw Buffy’s hands and knew what she had to do. Buffy deserved better..
When I was a teen, I ranked the 6th season as the lowest. Now, as an adult, it's my 3rd favorite buffy season, (with season 3 as my top 1 and season 5 as my top 2) because of how serious they tackle mental health issues and drug addiction in this. The writing itself is so amazing and so terrifyingly real.
This scene really shows the mental strength Buffy had. Even though she would have had a right to hate them, she chose to bear it in secret, can you imagine, getting into heaven and your friends, in their selfishness bring you back? good intentions or not. How angry would we be.
And Spike didn't react right away like the other scoobies. He listened to her so intently. Without any judgment. For me Spike and Tara were so right for buffy. Even though Spike started having dark intentions towards her. But he redeemed himself. I wished Tara survived too and always be Buffy's right friend.
There's parts of me that really don't like season 6 but Buffy's depression is something I'll always relate to. It speaks to the quality of the writing that something I understood as a 10/11 year old at the time is still finding ways to impact me as a 33 year old.
Well, here it is, the very best moment of all Trek, and not a single phasor, tricorder, transporter, replicator, warp drive, photon torpedo, comlink (or even a captain) in sight. Just three people living in the moment. Best scene ever.
I think this conversation between Buffy and Spike pretty much sums it all up: everything here, in the real and living world is hard. We face loss after loss until we become one ourselves. For our loved ones that still live, that is. I hope Buffy’s description of Heaven is accurate, and we will all be with all our loved ones forever after we die. Most of all, wherever we go after death, I hope to see my family again. Especially my grandma, but hopefully everyone I’ve ever loved.
First time watching this this was pretty scary, especially when she revealed she was in heaven and now she’s in hell and then when she told spike they can never know, when she slowly moves away and the dramatic music made it really sinister in a way. But this scene proves why Buffy had the best writing and plots in my opinion. Usually shows have plots that only cover one season and then it’s over, but in Buffy stuff that happened years ago still affect following seasons, it makes the whole world so much more alive than let’s say Charmed. I love charmed, but compared to Buffy, charmed that weak writing.

There's something about the way she says 'I think I was in heaven, and now I'm not. I was torn out of there, pulled out, by my friends', but specifically the way she says 'friends'. Almost like she's holding back saying the word friends like she doesn't want to say it. doubts that she would consider them friends anymore. It's so subtle but it's very powerful. I always felt really sorry for Xander for not getting his dance with Buffy, to having to put up with both Spike and Angel who basically got what Xander never did, and then for Xander to lose an eye and then for his girlfriend Anya to die. But as I watch this scene, I realise that Buffy had it way worse. Even though she's the Slayer, with power, she can still bleed and die (as evident when getting shot by one of the trio) yet has to carry the burden of responsibility of saving the world and putting on a brave face, as well as losing her Mum and having to try to look after her sister and still carry on. As powerful as Buffy was, she was still incredibly vulnerable and human. I can now understand why she chose to be around Spike and Angel so much.
In STO, there's a mission where you have to fend off borg drones in this vicinity, alongside Seven of Nine. All the while, when you get to the bar, you hear this scene from outside.
