Is the FFGX Class Frigate the True Answer for the US Navy?

Is the FFGX Class frigate the true successor to the Oliver Hazard Perry? A quick thank you to the channel supporters, my first video went very well, I owe my opening success to all of you.
Why American Allies Love the Outdated Oliver Hazard Perry Frigate
Просмотров 15 тыс.3 года назад
The Oliver Hazard Perry frigates have been around since 1977, the United States has retired all of them, same with Australia, but they have found their niche in another market, one of US allies.
My cousin served on that class of ship the USS Curts (FFG-38), his job is mechanic.
The F-5 of allied navies. Cheap, easy to build, and most basic design possible that could support modern weapons.
Uss Rentz FFG-46, '99-'03
Served on USS Klakring FFG-42 from 1989-92. These ships were very durable for what they were. I'd said avg in ASW/AS/AA capabilities. They were meant to protect larger assets (carriers and amphibs). Being a crew member, you were family. Miss those days on "The Finest Greyhound in the fleet!"
I cut my eye teeth as a young SWO on these fine ships: fast, maneuverable and well armed with plenty of upgrade potential. All in all, a very good frigate.
BMSA Jerry Conner (caldwell) USN, Plank owner, USS OLIVER HAZARD PERRY FFG-7. My first ship in the Navy.
Good job young sir! I served on the USS George Philip FFG 12, it makes an appearance about the half way point of your video.
FFG Reid 30! Did 5 years on her!
I was on board the USS Stephen W Groves(commissioning crew), the FFG-29 and it was very capable, even in the early mid 80's it was pretty capable and with the newer technology, should be a good addition.
The chilena Navy. Frigates. Prat. And. Latorre. Perry. Class. 🇨🇱⚓🇨🇱⚓🇨🇱⚓🇨🇱⚓
I served on three, the Clifton Sprague (FFG-16), Oliver Hazard Perry (FFG-7) and the Sides (FFG-14). Fast and capable ships they were supposed to be replaced by the LCS community. The LCS is a failed design, both versions. The new Frigates that are expected are, in many ways, upgraded Perry's. The Perry's COULD have been upgraded and extended but the Navy, in its infinite wisdom, choose not to.
I believe the Perry's are being pulled out of mothballs...

I was stationed on board the USS McClusky FFG 41 back in the mid 80’s. She was a great ship with better than average capabilities for her size and weight, especially with the integration of the LAMPS MK III system that she carried. She was the perfect ship for the duties she was built to preform. Unfortunately, that capability was lost when these ships were decommissioned. They should have remained in service until replaced with a newer class of ships.
I believe we cut some of the same ocean together. I'm a Mighty Mac plank owner, her first ERO and later became her second MPA. An awesome ship with a great crew.
The LCS helped someone’s career…..
Was stationed on one. One fact that is overlooked is that they are pretty fast for only a single screw ship. I've been on board during at sea drag races and the Hazards represent well.
Dips it's bow.
There 11 laid up so maybe there will be more than 7 to be sold, as of right now this decade 2022 one of them has been sold to the Bahrain and is still under going refurbishment so yeah the Ohp frigates will still see service for the next 20 years or so
Horrible Italian subtitles
Navy should have had a replacement ready before retiring the ship class. So frustrating!
yeah id watch your videos, i like them, a better mic would also be a plus
If this ship keeps getting modernized they can serve for a long time
I really loved the video and btw do u think the Knox will stay in service for long because the more powerful Knox is in the ROC navy, I’ve seen pics and they have installed lots of anti ship missile tubes
China now overtake usa...navy . China have 400 navy ship
Yeah, that is counting coastal patrol boats. In the us that I'd in the realm of the coast guard.
Perrys are still very fitting to convert into either large ASW OPVs or naval heavy gunships, or even just large cutters. But her engines are only 2 gas turbines which is a nightmare in terms of operating costs for developing countries as potential users Hopefully they'll succeed integrating diesel engines (used or new) turning them as economy ships codog or codlog
It is such a shame the USN didn't go with the Legend-class cutter design, those cutters are absolutely beautiful, and I think they're much better suited than the oversold FREMM. We should be using hulls that organic to US industries if you ask me. We are also getting overdue for some new cruisers. I enjoyed your video, keep it up.
Australia had 6 - 2 built in US (as new) and the rest in Australia- the last one was decommissioned 4/5 years ago… they really only became outdated due to there limited missile capabilities (volume)
4 were built in USA n optional 2 built in Australia which these last 2 were sold to Chile. OHP were brought because replacement for frigates/DE in service but also failed GPE or later call DDL. As Australians we were very lucky to get OHP frigates instead of DDL.
The U.S. NAVY SHOULD PUT THIS BACK TO SERVICE.. THE NAVY NEEDS MORE AND MORE SHIPS AS THEY BADLY NEED A 350 SHIP TARGET.. THESE FRIGATES ARE MUCH MORE LETHAL, POWERFUL AND LESS EXPENSIVE THAN. THE JUNK LCS LITTORALS..who can't even survive a missile hit...and can't defend anything... These Oliver class ships can really pack a punch...They are Cheap, less maintenance..not controversial..every navy would love To operate this
No ship can take a missile hit. The rolling airframe missile and the CIWS are very capable and fitted to every LCS. The LCS has just about the same capabilities as this ship. But it’s meant for more brown water missions.
@seanpruitt6801 Wrong. The USS Stark FFG-31 took 2 Exocets in 1987. 37 sailors died (may God rest their souls), but she made it back to port on her own power.
🇺🇸💪🇺🇸💪😎
Just loaded Commissioning Video USS Vandegrift FFG 48 you will see list of all Plankowners at end credits ruclips.net/video/Rlhs-Ppd5Sg/видео.html
As these ships are powered solely by gas turbines, their fuel consumption must be incredible
Should've kept one as a Museum ship. Change my mind
The USS Halyburton FFg-40 is slated to become a museum ship at Presque isle, in Erie PA.
Fully agree
It looks like Halyburton has a really good chance at being preserved
no but its good for Pakistan Navy.
did they kick the captain off the carrier.
They’re praised now. When they entered service the lack of a 3D radar, the single target illumination radar, the deficient naval data links, and the limited missiles magazine storage...were all issues. Then we’re the cracks in the aluminum superstructure. However they were available in quantity. And they’re replacement is the LCS disaster...so the FFG7’s look terrific in comparison
Robert Dawson why would anyone build an aluminum ship? So it can go faster?
@@samanli-tw3id ... Weight reduction. Especially in the superstructure. It wasn’t unusual until the Falklands/Malvinas war showed what fire does to warships made with aluminum. So the US Navy has returned to steel whenever possible since then.
Let's go boys
Some of your stated facts are a bit off. First the LCS class ships were not built with the intention of being the replacement for the Oliver Perry class frigates. The LCS have that designation for a reason, because they are not frigates at all. They are littoral class ships, something akin to a corvette. To date the US Navy has still not officially classified them as frigates. To be fair they are too small to be a modern blue water frigate, but as the navy up arms them the plan is to reclassify them at that point. Second the FFGx, now known as the Constellation class, are to be armed with the naval strike missile, not the Harpoon. Last the contract has little chance of being canceled early and less of being given to an American contractor. The ships are built in Wisconsin, only the parent company of the US company is Italian. They already make other ships for the navy. If anything the contact will expand to 50 ships when all is said and done.
a solid video!
Are you twelve?
Absolutely not.
Your voice is so fucking annoying
Listen, I try to make good RUclips content, I try to make my voice sound less irritating, but this is just a nastygram for no apparent reason other than to make me feel bad. If you think I'm so annoying, leave without being a disruptive person.
Just giving feed back
@@ralphhover2562 feedback isn't being rude to people, you literally said my voice was f*cking annoying, do you know how rude that is? If not, you have zero social cues.
Your RUclips channel is so inaccurate maybe you should use better sources and stop stuttering. I've watched all your videos not impressed.
I apologize if I got something wrong, I posted the video 5 minutes after the reports first started coming out, so I had no idea what was actually happening. I can't stop stuttering by the way, It's an issue I have when I'm sleep deprived. And you shouldn't be impressed by my content, I use the Microsoft built-in video editor, I'm expecting to get Camtasia later this month, as well as the Viddyoze animation maker, and Unity for gaming videos.
Are you still Italian
@@eurypterdaddiction1367 yes look at my last name what are you his dad
@@joerazalio2333 nah. We're friends.
I was a US Navy cruiser sailor and I loved the Perrys -- decent capability in all three areas (AAW, ASW, ASUW) at a low initial and operating cost. It was a shame to see them go.
They're my favorite class of Frigate, I always loved their look for some reason. My friends always say they sucked at their job, but they were good ships.
@@freedomfleet8363 For disposable ships, they got the job done. :)
@@glennmartin8664 yes they did, poor USS Stark getting abused by the Exocet missiles.
Stout Ships-Iron Coffin...Out Moded.Very good earnings from Idiot Allies...
I believe they are being pulled out of mothballs...
