    Breathtaking Rob, especially for someone like me who has not been diving coral reefs before. The scale of those corals and fish behaviour is 👌🏻😮 The amount of particles in the water that feed the reef yet some try and have crystal clear tanks with no particles 🤷‍♂️

    I have a reefer 625 which is around 165 gallons, and I was wondering if I should try a clown tang or a sohal tang. Both of them are very aggresive but if I find one with a good personality then it could maybe work out. The tank is just over 5 feet long.

    • @pelagicswimmer
      @pelagicswimmer 4 дня назад

      @ElectricStealer If you're asking my advice I'd say a 5ft tank is not going to work for either of those, if you get them small to move on as they grow it's very difficult to find people to take them. I did even put a clown tang in mine as I don't think longterm it's big enough. With all the tangs out there I would choose a smaller less aggressive species.

    Fantastic! I've been wanting to try this myself ever since Jamie Craggs' first talk! I just haven't had the opportunity to have more than a small softy tank yet. But next year, after I've graduated from college and (hopefully) have a well-paying job, I'm planning to do a mixed reef with a Bali Green Slimer and a TSA Blue Slimer, and LED lights set to simulate a real moon cycle, and the heater to imitate seasonal fluctuations, and I'm hopeful that in a couple years I'll manage to get a spawn out of them to try this myself. In the meantime, I'm really happy that someone else is doing it and documenting their journey. I'll definitely be following along! As far as why other normal hobbyists haven't tried this, I would think that it's probably concerns about being able to feed the larvae and maybe unknowns about how to inoculate the settled larvae with photosynthetic algae that are mostly holding people back. Lots of people have Apexs that they could easily program to create the conditions to produce a spawn, so that's not really the intimidating part, I think. It's the raising baby corals part. And possibly concerns about having the space to try and rear a bunch of larvae. By the way, on the off chance that you haven't already seen it: Frag Garage did a fantastic interview with Jamie Craggs that went into lots of detail about all of this, plus info about the more recent progress he's been making. (Including things like revising his initial assumption that acropora colonies had to be a certain (large) size to start spawning, if I remember correctly.) It's a great resource for anyone who interested in this stuff, so if you haven't listened to it, I highly recommend checking it out!

    Rob- I had the same thing on my old tank with large numbers of halides and get it with my new one with loads of radions. Change the breaker to a c Type breaker if you haven’t already. I sometimes get surges or power cuts at night, which cause surges from the Radion power supplies at trip the B type breakers. I’m guessing you have the b type breaker on the Radion circuit.

    • @pelagicswimmer
      @pelagicswimmer 19 дней назад

      It always happens at night though when all the lights are off, during the day when all the lights are on it seems fine, I'll get an electrician when I get back to have a look. I might split the light/pump circuit in two as I have a spare place on the board.

    • @mosreef1
      @mosreef1 18 дней назад

      Same here. I think the c type will hopefully fixit. They have a longer latency, so any instability in the in rush current with multiple power supplies can trip a b type breaker, but a c type can withstand it. Metalnhalides do the same. Not sure why led power supplies do it, but the c type worked for me….
