Thank so much for letting us see those who remember the Manawatu Gorge - I can remember as a child going through there with mum and dad in an old vauxhall velox and hated the journey to Woodville but calmer coming back :). Even when I started driving though it myself the feeling did not change. It is was lovely to hear the birds who now have a new home.

Wonderful to see your walk. 'The Gorge' sounds alive with birds - was lovely to hear. Shame there were no trains to see on the other side. ;-)

After spending the last few days researching an aspect of the Gorge that I haven't really thought about till now, and following the 'alive' 2015 Google Streetview journey through the Gorge, it was great to see this also. What a pity the "Barney's Point" sign has vanished for the roadside. Lots of memories of driving through in past times. Anyway, now back to to researching the story of the "Manawatu Gorge Coach Road" - as it was called a long, long time ago.......

Very interesting - I've known this road for about 60 years so it's sad but fascinating to see how it is now, and how nature is prevailing. Thank you very much for sharing.

Very cool walk. Thank you for your video. Your step seemed quicker than a casual walk/hike per my hearing. I could sit for hours and be fascinated watching the water below flow and move with the current. Hear I sit in a small one-bedroom apartment in Southern California recovering from knee replacement surgery watching your awesome video. What a great adventure for me to plan and execute a visit to The North Island of New Zealand to walk/hike this same Gorge. Thank you again. 😎

Thanks very much. Was up at the (old Pork Chop Hill) lookout last week. And used to drive up in the 80's, so lovely nostalgia to see this.

I shared your post and this comment was posted. “That is not Parahaki Bridge. It's a work platform that was used to create Parahaki Bridge. You can see the beginnings / foundations of the middle pier of Parahaki Bridge, "in front of the work platform", from the perspective of the drone making the video.”

Excellent video of the surrounding area that one is so little aware of while being stationary in any one of the residences along the coast. 🙂

Well, well, that was a nice and gentle canal cruise. The most impressive part of the video is the one filmed with the drone which also gives one a better idea of the surrounding area. There were some points during low flying filming that seemed a bit risky in the sense of the drone colliding either with tree branches or a bridge (I even noticed a wire at some point). It's also good to be able to see the cameraman during the flight of the video!

that car going through the intersection of Rangitikei and Featherston streets at 27 secs is absolutely almost hauntingly awesome. That real actual moment in time and the driver never to know he/she is going to seen many decades later going through the intersection by at this point a minimum of 1200 people 59 years into the future.

quite special, there are not enough of these old films. I was 6 years old going to Milson school when this was filmed, my Nana lived in one of those houses pictured from on top of the bridge. Now I am 64 watching a scene that I would have been in many times a lifetime ago, thanks for posting this!

what a boring video---- a woman walking the deck----. P& O is the lowest class of ship---- Perhaps your brain doesn't see this

When I first arrived in this beautiful country and drove through this road I was and still am amazed by the sheer beauty it offered to the travellers. There were designated spots where you could safely park your car take photos and admire the scenery for a while. Sadly it is now slowly dying but it will never be forgotten because to me it is a truly another beautiful historic wonder of the world.

There I was all the while wondering both at the range of the drone but most of all about where exactly YOU were, something that was not to be revealed until the very end 😀
