Flying Haggis Films - (stealth wild camping)
Великобритания
Добавлен 31 авг 2015
Welcome to my channel. As a civilian enthusiast & collector of military surplus field kit, ive found that my small channel attracts many X forces people who kindly give me support, friendship and advice. Although I come from an X forces family, my personal experience is limited, although in early life, I did complete several weeks of full time square bashing, assault drills, mountain rescue training and survival excersises in extreme winter conditions . Now in my senior years, I still try to get out on personal drills in order to re-live the past a little and sharpen my skills. I choose military surplus because it is affordable, reliable and robust. I try to practice stealth when out, I sometimes take along one of our beagle hounds for company, which does compromise my stealth effectiveness. I certainly don’t take myself too seriously and neither do my hounds. I hope you will enjoy my channel as I test out my kit. Thank's for dropping by. Harry...out.

U love the Mk 2 Harry - it's so utilitarian. I like your fire lighting pouch too. Mine is to big I think. It needs condensing. Well, a good night's kip - outside works every time. Good going. Mark
@@WyeExplorer thanks Mark, my fire pouch is a small shed polish kit re purposed.👍
@@FlyingHaggisFilms A pleasure Harry - always good. Yeah, does the job though.
Will this fit snugpak softie elite 3
@@xix94 probably unlikely bud. I can only squeeze summer bag, taro and bivi then rstions in side pouches at a push for its really a day patrol pack. I've wondered about a big sleep bag strapped underneath but that's pushing it. The vukingbpatril pack might just work but REALLY, A BERGEN IS NEDED FOR ALL SEASON KIT I GUESS.
Never thought of using the crusader base for twigs. Like it mate.
Certainly in dry conditions they burn well 👍
The scene at 8:48 made me very jealous. Wonderful. I really rate the MkII system, I've stove rope in mine, but haven't tried twigs yet so after this I will give it a go. Thanks Harry, all the best.
Wow, what a great video and of course a WWII recipe! Be Safe and Thanks for Sharing.
@@Blrtech77 your welcome, although the recepie was rather plain in taste 🙂 however, I understand field rations even to this day are by necessity, simple.
Very nice setup Harry! I’ve got a hammock, I need to use it. Thanks!
@@SurvivalScout2024 I'm sure you will in good time. 👍
Great video, thank you for sharing
@@Re-CreatingKev your more than welcome wishing you well. 👍
Nice surroundings...
@@kayakcobber524 thank you, 😊 it's great to be in the silence of the forest.
I’m all envious on that Mark 2 set. I have that enormous DD tarp. It’s pretty big and heavy but it sure is nice to have the space. I enjoyed your video. Thanks.
Hi. Thanks fir watching. I aksi have far too much kit and must trim down. M1 stove I definitely a keep.😂
It's been a long time brother. For some reason, your videos have not been on my feed. Today I thought to check you out. Glad you seem to be doing well. I enjoyed watching this. God bless.
I appreciate that. Thanks bro, hope to get out again before year end, a lot of theology to write for now. The Triune God be with you. Harry 👍
I just bagged one from a 2nd hand shop brand new. £8
@@ProCrow9882 good price there hope you'll travel light with bare minimum kit and enjoy the space and comfort. What's good about the capacity is that it packs large sleeping bag and jackets well for cooler conditions.
@@ProCrow9882 sorry, was talking about the large ruck in latest film. Yes, the smock is great value.
sweet kit brother. excellent video. great format and intel.🤙
@@hangtough503 thanks bro, that means lot. 🙏 thanks for coming along. Hope you are well. ....out
Evening mi friend, very well done. This didn't come up on my play list... Sorry about that. Nice one looks like a good setup Harry. 👍😀😎🦉
@@stealthandysteath1069 thanks Andy, appreciate that. Yes, as an ageing civillian I try to get it done ✔ 🙂
Good video a great way to use the crusader,i made a small oblong opening in the side of my one with a dremil to feed twigs into
@@brettatkinson4325 that's a good idea Brett, then bigger dry twigs can be fet constantly 👍

@@FlyingHaggisFilms you're Welcome 👍🏼
You really captured the light beautifully, its like all the colors and no colors, all time and no time all at the same time captured in those sun rays. Those moments just as the sun is disappearing and you feel a wave of trepidation, excitement and fear.....knowing your committed to staying the night. I've never seen those paper firelighters before, look really good (and light weight too!) Very nice camp Harry, your camp skills, video and military edge are very professional. Best wishes, Gilly 👍
@@GillianSmith thanks Gilly, indeed the forest touches us in a primeval way if we engage with its energy. I like the feeling of silent unity with the wildlife from mamals to insects all just going about there busy lives in innocence and sensetivity with the forest, one feels like thier guest bless them all. Nice comments that encourage one to keep going, thank you. Yes, the fire barbecue squairs are an option from garage forecourts. Stay well. Harry...out

Thank you very much Harry! I try to go out for the night tomorrow, if we have no thunderstorm! Best wishes from Germany Viola
Don't pressure yourself Viola, listen to the rain and dream a little, or stepp into the wet forest with an umbrella and perhaps provided there is no thunder, listen to the rain for a while. 🙂
Well done Sir. Thanks for taking me along! Loved the Thistle!
@@Evasion.Survival.Alaska your more than welcome bud for you remain an inspiration. H.
Hi Harry, puritabs are chemical based, the better option is purifier pumps and lifestaws, instant, safe purified water on the go 👌🏻👍🏻

Wind screen & turn the cup 90° & if you're gona burn twigs no wind screen with cup turned 90° & feed it from the top. It's not perfect but it works. Cheers 🇨🇦
@@eschneider8799 thanks, good advice. 👍 It is also certainly light and compact. Harry
Surely a mask would have been a good idea?
@@jellyandme so true, but having worked in industry for years one learns to not breath in for micro moments however stupid it seems. So far since good. 🙂
Hexamine is actually a low-grade explosive. Pack it in with CNTnT and you'll get a good bang. So, be very careful compressing your powder Hexi, although it takes an igniter I understand a boat in WWII demolished a whole town when the Hexamine in the hold exploded; it was kept secret for many years under the Official Secrets Act.
Thanks for your insight, hadn't realized hexi to be so volitile. Glad it's now not recommended. Harry
Excellent presentation.
Thank you, 😊 Harry
Awesome Video ❤ Great music, great Kit!!! I Always Like this simple war time food, fast eat and Go on! I really enjoyed watching. Good to See you Out in DPM 💪🏼 Have a good weekend, GR 🤙🏼
Thanks for your comment GR, it's always nice to become aware that people are watching. Have a nice weekend 😊
You might want to check the distance on that stove as there a sweet spot of about an inch and a quarter. Also denture tablets are great for cleaning bottles.
Thanks Paul 👍 good advice there.
If I can offer a suggestion re the camo cream... don't. Getting caught wearing the camo clothing you can pass off as rugged outdoor wear. Getting bounced with your face cammed up is a bit harder. use that scrim scarf, or shemargh over your face when you need to be non-reflective and it tucks away when you suddenly come across civvies. Great to see you getting it done in spite of the sleep apnea etc. Inspiring.
Good advice, best not to spook Jo public ever. 😉
I'm impressed, Harry. For a civy you have a very solid skillset, your fieldcraft is as good as many diggers I had in my section back in the day. Good common sense tips.
Honoured to hear that, although my grandad was a Kosbi Regiment Sargent Magor, I was influenced by him and misd him much at, at least I served 30 days extreme forces training in mountain survival as a young man, where my ethos was indelibly established. 🤣🤣🤣🤙
I'm not sure they had those stoves in 1945. we never had them while I was in (Australian Army 77-86) but they issue them these days so I think they are a fairly new addition. The canteen, of course, has been around for donkeys. It is a replica and perhaps they just added the stove for extra value? I think you're a bit hard on yourself re the noise discipline. While sounds do indeed carry and clinking isn;t a very natural sound, you wouldn't have stopped for a brew if you hadn't been pretty sure you are alone. We always did the big circle and came backon our path before harbouring up. That way you can check if anyone is in the vicinity or following you. Then the odd clink or clunk isn't a problem and you can enjoy your brew. Keen to see more of your work, Cobber.
Thanks again for you input 👍 Yes, I am a bit pedantic and obsessive at times as a civillian trying to play the comando game with an awareness for total stealth, invisibility and silence. I guess, rather like the animal world around me which ocassionally shows up during my times of stilness. 🤫 🤣🤣🤣
@@FlyingHaggisFilms I respect the fact you don't pretend to be ex-SAS or whatever. You're not a 'Walt', but rather a keen outdoorsman with a genuine interest in developing good fieldcraft. Keep it up. Enjoying your vids.
@@fatmanfaffing4116 thank you for your sharp discernment. 👍
The rather dull, unromantic reality is that both dixies were probably never issued but kept in reserve stock, then Board of Survey'd and sent off as surplus for sale to the civilian market. I doubt they were issued as a set given the different manufacturing dates. Having said that, what if the 45 was used in Palestine and then Korea, the 53 went to Malaya and Aden.... I like the Brit ones as they are deeper than the Australian issue we used. I have both and never use the Aussie ones, just the aluminium Brit knock-offs. I find them versatile for all types of cooking in the field. As for the hexie law... I'd use up any I have, the odds of a copper catching you and knowing they are illegal now are pretty slim.
Thanks for your observations, very informative. Yes, it's sad hexi is outlawed but perfectly understandable in the interests of national security.
@@FlyingHaggisFilms but national security goes out the window so long as you pay 39 quid for a license. it's not about security; it is all about control.
@@fatmanfaffing4116 Good point that makes the legislation pointless.
I have a Mk1 and love it. I use the fire rope method and find it is very efficient. Liked and subbed.
🤣
Thanks for the video. It was informative.
Thanks for watching and commenting. 😊

Managed to translate, again, thank you. Harry Edinburgh.
I've always had a leaning to alcohol/solid fuel stoves, there's something about them. Let's face it tho, if the weather is windy it's a drag so I always reverted to gas. Recently I purchased an X BOIL, you should have a look at them. It's an alcohol stove that actually works really well. Thanks Harry for all your videos, I really enjoy them.
So good of you to comment David, yes, I'll keep an opem mind on fuel. With a good wind shield nearly everything performs well. Harry 👍
Beautiful editing and music brother🤙🤙🤙
Thanks bro, and no bugs 🤣🤙
Glad to see yer keeping yer vids guid bud. It's a joy to watch em. Keep up the guid work
Thanks for that, it's good of you to say, makes it all worthwhile.
Greetings from Finland, near the Russian border. Good video. It's windy there. Cooking with military stoves is always fun. I modified the Esbit stove so that it can also use Trangia's alcohol burner and gas burner as well.
Good idea, might try that someday. Greetings to Finland and well wishes for all the defence forces.
