This is my Rotational Casting Machine prototype, which I am busy working on as part of my PhD Research Project in Industrial Design at the University of Johannesburg, in South Africa. It is fabricated as follows: Frame: Fabricated from standard mild-steel sections, steel base plates, tabs, nuts, bolts... Some sub assemblies are welded together (I used a tig welder, but Stick /Mig also will be s...

I built an Arduino Camera Slider and published it on Instructables. This is a collection of test footage while testing the Arduino Code and Slider Hardware. www.instructables.com/id/ArduinoStepper-Motor-Camera-Slider/ The clips are all done with Magic Lantern software, and Frame-Rate Override to 1 frame per second. This was sped up a bit with video software.
Hydroponic Wheatgrass and Birdseed

A timelapse created from WAY too many images. I set my webcam up to take photos every couple seconds. After about a week, it ended up with approximately 14000 images which is rather overkill. The outcome is a better attempt than my first video.

Apologies for the lighting and thunderstorm effect. The first wheatgrass I've ever grown, and hydroponically. The first timelapse of anything growing... It grew crazy quick, approximately four days from the appearance of sprouts. Details: A plastic tub under a 15w aquarium fish/plant light during the day, and various types of other softer lights through the night (trial and error). With hydropo...

Is there a way to fix the second motor so that it does not rotate together with the frame?
On right side of machine You can see a electric rotor which transfer current to motor.
Deseo informacion en Español.
Thanks for showing us how to make one very helpful
It would satisfy my curiosity to see your slip ring assembly, either in video or by means of a drawing. Putting your plans online would be a great service. I must say, though, that I don't see much virtue in having the two frames independently powered, over having both frames powered by a single motor with random gearing between the two. Cheers from Canada.

How did you make the wiring for the motor that spins together with the frame? Also - good job!:)
Amazing!! How come the secondary motor wire is not making any issues while rotating? the wires also will spin and lose its tension ryt!
Could you give me the description about this project? Thanks!

Try a 1958 Matchless 500 with no decompression valve. You will start wearing real biking footwear you might just break your foot on the kickback and keep your face out of the way of your knee. 😱
Boots help a lot lol😋
can we please see the results, even if not perfect?
very well done it is an amazing machine. Are the nuts what you used primarily to balance it? I'm assuming any item you put in it it has to be recalibrated because of the offset or no?
How to heat?
it appears the head is pointing up or horizontally most of the time...
All that and doesn't show what the piece looks like?
Hi mate, can i ask why not simply use 90deg pulley system to drive the second axis? This would make things considerably simpler to construct and you would perhaps have fewer hassles in terms of balancing the machine?
Hi Jeff. The main reason is because different proportioned parts would require different rotational speeds for each axis. If you think of a long narrow casting, it would require a slower rotation along the long side, otherwise the resin would pool more at the ends and not coat the mid section evenly. This way the trial and error with different speeds can be done quite easily, whereas with pulleys it would mean different ratios to attempt to yield different rotational ratios. I am needing to figure a different method for my next prototype which will need to withstand 220 degrees C and I will try with Bevel Gears to achieve that, or chains and gear wheels, but that then becomes quite a tricky thing to prototype.
@@martinbolton987 Hi Martin, I agree you would need to mess with the ratios to achieve that balance, but i think especially for castings which are part of a repeated manufacturing process - you are more likely to have a set of settings dedicated to a specific part, so once you have your mold and setup the balance and ratios, you would then save those settings and use them every time you use that mold. But yeah thanks for the reply mate. Have a good one.
@@cigara87 Thanks for your comment. Yes that makes sense. It reminds me of a patternmaker's workshop, with huge collections of jigs each with dedicated applications!
hi Martin, awesome project, thanks for sharing. Quick question though, how did you make the electrical connections for the secondary axis motor?
Hi there. At first I was trying to figure out a way to use motor brushes (like in a drill) to make the connection around a shaft, but I then came across a pre-assembled electrical component called a Slip Ring, and they are used within wind turbines to allow for the assembly to keep pivoting around and around without wires getting tangled. I tried it in a small test with a small 12V geared motor, and then again in this prototype with the windscreen wiper motors. So far it has proven really effective!
Nice kickstarting in your trainers. Nice action with the foot . Ware Motocross boots if possible . Good video . Please show more
Nice machine :)
Have you tried placing a video camera within the casting, I think your device slows down time. Pretty sure I saw it in a movie once.
@Evan Braden have you seen the movie Contact?
I will try, I also want to see LEDs attached to see it light-painting with a long exposure as it warps time and space.!
My XT500 kicking back ruclips.net/video/xC9ABIPI9rw/видео.html hurts like h*ll..
Get it past TDC on the compression stroke. Most importantly, kick with authority.
I had a 1980 XT 500 and if you tried to kick it with the decompresser it would kick back. I use to get it up on the compression stroke a jump on it. Never kicked back
Yes, decomp is there to help you get it past the "lock up" and that is where you kick it from. Slowly kick until it won't go anymore, stop kicking, briefly dump the compression, and then jump on it. (leave the decomp alone) 😅 Learned that the the hard way.
ignition timing set correctly, you'll never get a kick back !
Not entirely correct. If the timing is set correctly. And you kick it into the compression stroke, kickback happens. Mine starts first kick every time (1980 G) but it is fun to watch others who are used to smaller displacements and e-start try, because they just mount it and kick it (without the necessary commitment) and it fires! But before the piston reaches the top of it's stroke - timing is supposed to be set @7°BTDC static, hence it returns down, but in the wrong direction - and the pawls on the starter gear are designed to release when the engine is running. Not backwards. It pack quite a wallop.
Very important on these big bore singles
Late model XR 600's have anti-backfire on their cams, It wont kickback. Not sure about the earlier models.
i got a xr 600 heard ppl saying watch out 4 the kick back has't got it to me and had it 4 5 years
Lovely beasty bikes but you need big biker boots and kick harder - great film
this is crazy cool, thanks for sharing
always wear motorcycle boots with ankle protection when kickin a big bore 4 stroke or even better motocross boots
Hey Martin. Very cool! Really like it! MW.
freaken awesome dude. music fit it so well. wow you were one fucked kid haha :P jokes, i really loved it!
