I am a substitute organist serving about 9 churches in my local area.
I've been playing the organ since I was 13 and took a few years of organ lessons at that time. Now, in my late 50's I still get great enjoyment out of playing. With no formal organ education I consider myself a hobbyist as opposed to an 'organist'.
I hope you enjoy my videos.

The Ned Phoenix collection of Reed Organs

What I've been doing. The last weekend of September (2024) the Estey Organ Museum hosted the Reed Organ Society for Estey Fest. There were all sorts of goings on, workshops, concerts etc. On Monday September 30th my brother, Ned Phoenix hosted an open house and showed his collection of reed organs. He is also available by appointment Tuesday October 1 thru Sunday October 6 (2024) for those who ...

The folks who made my computer sent me more merch. Socks with the company name on them. I love them! Puget Systems- Everything for the Virtual Pipe Organist. From systems to socks they'll treat you right. This video is two-fold. Showing off the socks and talking about moving. There are some still photos at the end of the kitchen/living room. I'm getting to the point of being sad that I have to ...

I'm back in business. My previous computer had a meltdown. The CPU fried from overheating and use. It lasted almost 4 years which is impressive for an off-the-shelf computer. Rheinberger Trio in A minor

I played this piece as part of my prelude last Sunday. I really enjoyed playing it and thought it warranted recording. From Wikipedia: Josef Gabriel Rheinberger (17 March 1839 - 25 November 1901) was an organist and composer from Liechtenstein, residing in Bavaria for most of his life. As court conductor in Munich, he was responsible for the music in the royal chapel. He is known for sacred mus...

Something to do on a Saturday evening. Thanks for watching the 2nd episode of: Herbert Howells Psalm Prelude, Set 1, Opus 32, Number 1 Psalm 34 v.6 This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles. Played on the composite French organ of Saint Ouen. I listened to a lot of people playing this piece and I needed to register it as Howells notated on the score. He ...

Something to do on a Saturday afternoon. I hit the record button and decided to share it with you. Many mistakes and mushy parts. Certainly NOT concert quality. Thanks for coming along for the ride and I hope you make it all the way through. There's commentary as you go. These are my selections for church today. I recorded them when I came home on my home organ with the composite sample set of St. Ouen. For the Prelude I selected 3 pieces/excepts from Cesar Franck. I was looking for something calm and meditative. The Postlude I chose is March by B. Yarnold. It's manuals only and is a wonderful little fanfare. 0:00 Intro 0:13 Meditation in E Major (excerpt) 2:59...

A quiet postlude improvisation. The First Congregational Church of Walpole, NH. The congregation was taking a group photo, so I played quietly. At one point I think you hear someone say "smile", LOL. The audio is from the GoPro positioned directly in front of the pipes. I'm told the organ is going to be serviced and tuned tomorrow, YAY.
Trio in F minor by Cesar Franck

A short piece by Cesar Franck Turn up the volume, kick back and close your eyes. Imagine sitting in a gothic cathedral in the middle of the night, just you and someone playing this piece on the organ. Let the sound of the harmonic flute wash over you and transport you to another dimension. Hear the vastness of the cathedral and feel the movement of the music as it wafts through the space. Enjoy !

Tuba Tune in D Major by C. S. Lang

As the title already states: Tuba Tune in D Major by C. S. Lang I will be playing in a church that has been meeting downstairs with a piano for the summer as the sanctuary gets too hot. Tomorrow is their first day back in the sanctuary with the organ. Their organ has a rather fiery trumpet stop and I'm planning on giving a spectacular postlude. Today I'm playing on my Hauptwerk VPO using the Sa...
My Hauptwerk Journey

Here is a vlog of my current organ set up. Some of my subscribers have been asking for a video like this for a while. It doesn't explain how Hauptwerk works or anything about the organ sample sets, or that things like MIDI stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface. It's just how the organ that I'm playing now came to be. Pretty basic. It's a pleasure having such a wonderful instrument in ...

"Improv On A Friday Night" Improvisation in G minor 05 12 2023
Seth!! You have made my morning...Watching your video was entertaining , as well as informative....I watched several times and said to myself..."SELF, you would NEVER have the fortitude to do a move such as this"....Many blessings with your new home. Waiting for a new video from the new place. Looks like a great new home for you and your VPO!! Blessings to you, sir....
Thank you so much! The VPO is very happy here, as am I. It was a lot of planning and due to that everything went back together without a hitch. So pleased I marked everything. Yes, more videos are coming! Thanks again for commenting.
Moving is never fun. Gotta be 'organ'ized. Luv ya Cuz.
ORGANization is the key. LOL love you too! See you in the spring.
So glad you had all of that help hun. ❤ Much love always, Sis
Hi Darling! Yes, glad there was help. I couldn't have done it without the 'team'. Love you - S
O man, what a procedure. So many parts and details! Good thing you're a Virgo. 😉 I'm glad you're re-settled. 😚
I'm glad I'm a Virgo too. Lists and organization are my forte. I may not follow through with any of it but darn-it I'll make a list! Thank you, I'm so glad this whole ordeal is over with. Working on the getting settled portion, unpacking boxes upon boxes but the organ was first priority. Remember: No Music, No Life!
And life must go on. so music must be made! It's a big deal to move, but the unpacking and reorganizing is just torturous. And then, the new existence altogether. Such is life. 🤭
Thanks for shareing
Thank you, I never know how these types of videos will be received.
Love 'em -- thank you!
Thanks for posting this! I attended Esteyfest but was unable to go see the Phoenix organ collection. Your video allowed me to sort of do that.
@mardyeisloeffel3889 there will be another video with more footage once I'm settled in my new place. Thanks for commenting and I hope you stay tuned for the video.
The company specifically stated that this was not powerful enough to be used in a church.
Yes, but it's a lovely practice organ. I believe it's dubbed a 'studio organ' as one would have it in their 'rooms' for practice. It's really quite lovely and has a swell shoe for both the swell and the great! Very handy.
I just found your channel I like to look at reed organs and hear them also the pipe organ
Thank you. I'm almost done with my move, so I will have time to edit the full tour of my brother's reed organ collection.

These are beautiful instruments! How wonderful that they are being preserved for people to hear! More people need to hear (and love) them!
@@RosemaryPalfini yes, thank you
Beautiful to look at as well as hear.
Thank you for sharing a glimpse into the world of reed organs! These instruments were a staple for worship and home entertainment in their heyday, and the average person would have been well acquainted with them. They were an integral part of our nation's history, and they are worthy of our attention today. In fact (I was surprised to learn), many popular artists and bands of the last 60 years have utilized reed organs in their recordings! Thanks again for sharing! 🙂🎹
Thank you for your input.

This version gives me mixed feelings… on the one hand it sounds divine and soothing it shows the values of America - freedom and peace but also shows the greatness and power of the country freedom fighter, but on the other hand it causes some anxiety. the anthem shows greatness but also the exhaustion of this country from never ending commercial wars, corruption, and eternal confrontation with other forces. it sounds like there’s no much time left for this country until the end. it makes me feel anxiety and idk… dread I hope America will recover and learn from its mistakes somewhere in the future 🇺🇸💜

Against all odds. We went from a simple colony with a military built up of farmers to being the strongest nation in the world with highly advanced technology. We triumphed over the British, the Spanish, our own selves, the Germans x2 the Japanese, though we have lost some battles. We still remain the greatest nation on Earth, with freedom. This was very interesting to watch - I really enjoyed it. Did you discover how to make your Launchpad buttons light up when you press a ‘stop’?
Thank you for your comment, I'm glad you enjoyed it. No, I've not gotten the Launchpad buttons to light up yet. Any suggestions?
@@snp965 Sure. What version of Hauptwerk are you using?
@@TheAnxiousOrganist Version 7
@@snp965 you need both midi in and out for the launchpad. It’s the midi out that sends the signal from Hauptwerk to light up the buttons
@@TheAnxiousOrganist The Launchpads are connected through USB so I believe it is both MIDI in and out. I really appreciate your help/input on this! Would it be easier to do this thru email? sethphnx@yahoo.com

My grandfather played the Grandfather Willis Organ at Blenheim Palace. He bought a church organ from a derelict church, took out the floor above the organ for the pipes and fitted a removable handle for the bellows as it crossed the doorway. He paid my dad and several of his mates 6 pence an hour to pump the thing. He died due to the gas from WW1 not long after.

This quiet performance really provides a special moment to calm the mind. This performance seems to tell a beautiful story in itself. It really makes the atmosphere warm. The sound of the organ adds to the authenticity and beauty of this song. Thank you so much for listening to this simple yet beautiful performance.
I appreciate that you listened and commented. Thank you so much. It's nice to have your perspective. ❤
