The grilse have arrived! - River Finn
Просмотров 1,1 тыс.Месяц назад
The plan was to leave at 5am to set on our 2 hour journey to the Finn, I slept in and wee didn’t end up leaving until 6am but Stewart didn’t care as he hooked a fresh fish before I’d even had time to set my rod up. I nearly lost the fish trying to net it for him, everything just went wrong for me net collapsed, got caught on the bottom fly then lost my polarised sunglasses netting the fish. We ...
Spring salmon on the river Bush!

Spring salmon caught on the fly, fishing the river bush new stretch 24/5/24. Unfortunately the fish was foul hooked in the tail which made it hard to net. The fly fell out once the fish was netted and she was sent on her way. Landed a wee brown trout to finish the day off.

First time I’ve fished the river Finn, a beautiful river with great scenery all around it. Neither of us got a pull this time but seen a fish moving through the graveyard pool just before we left. Hopefully be back for the grilse run later in the year and have more luck.

Nice fish!
No keen on seeing the wee ones but nice to see bigger
lovely fish
Thanks
Awesome stuff dude, do you have an insta for your fly adventures?
Thanks, no don't have insta just post on RUclips
Nice one mate can’t get them all 🎣
Cheers, frustrating when they get off all the same lol
@@FeildsportsNI yes mate do you fish the roe
@Macaulaynorwood1 yeah, haven't fished it this season yet but hopefully down shortly if we get abit of water
@@FeildsportsNI I’ve vidoes up there of this year so far
@Macaulaynorwood1 class ur doing well, hopefully I'll get a run down soon
a bad man with the net
Very bad, everything went wrong net folded and got caught on point fly
its a club water?
Glenmore Estate for day tickets
@@FeildsportsNI how many it cost per day?
@96Mayfly £50 but when you've bought 5 tickets you can fish the rest of the season for free
@@FeildsportsNI so its in north irland?
South, in donegal
Good way to fish over rocks and shallow ground i reckon.
Yeah would be great with a floating line
Thanks for info! Really enjoyed your filming!
No problem, cheers
Now what type of fly line are you using? Great footage!! Nick
Thanks, it's just a normal #7 intermediate trout line. I always give the gear a good wash after salt fishing
That was some fight well done top angling, was it hooked it the mouth and came out into the tail
Thanks, I think she swiped at it with her tail then she just took off. Hook fell out in the net
What weight rod and line? Pound tippet?
8/9 weight switch rod and 12lb maxima chameleon
What sink tip did you use
Its a rio scandi short versitip, I usually use the slower of the 2 sink tips don't know sink the rate 👍
Well done Jordan nice bit of water there for the fly
Cheers mate, there's a couple nice throws on it definitely worth the 6 quid for an early ticket even to get out for a couple hours 👌
Nice fish, great to see, well done! 😉👍👏🍻
Thanks!
Some take
Aye, got the heart going
Loved the vid. Could you do a how to vid/tutorial for swinging spiders? What gear do you use leaders, tippet how many flies? Thanks again for the great vid.
Thanks, I'll try to get one soon, bit of rain forecast for the next few days and I prefer fishing spiders when the river is low and clear 👍
Some nice fish there mate👍what kind of fly did you use?
Thanks, all caught on a teal blue and silver tried some sandeel and shrimp patterns first with no luck
Nice shot, where abouts in the country are you located? I shoot in different parts of County Antrim 👍
Cheers, I'm Ballymena direction 👌
Good head of fish in that river
Yeah, it fishes well in low water with small spiders hopefully be a few bigger fish coming through the system in the next month or so
WHY 🔔 END
Stop them from killing newborn lambs in the field behind me
What's the reason for it?
They peck the eyes out of newborn lambs, field behind me has ewes lambing in it

i dont watch fishing but this came up and thought id watch it to see and i found you entertaining and a good watch. subbed!
Thanks 😄
Few crackers there despite the weather 👍🎣❤
Cheers mate, it was a cold one 🥶
Well in .I was out yesterday and nailed a 1.5 lb and a 4.7 rainbow .this truly is a great sport
Class, it definitely is 🎣
Hi mate 👍🏻nice video you inspired me to try something diferent than a pikefly fishing 😅 what line do you use intermediate or sinking? Thanks👊 sub from me 👍🏻🎣
Thanks, I used an intermediate for the mackerel but usually use a fast sinking line for pollock 🎣
@FeildsportsNI thank you mate looking forward for more videos👍🏻🎣
Cheers, tightlines 🐟
Some cracking fish mate well done. 👍
Cheers 👍
Great fighting fish won’t be long now
Thanks. Arrived at the river just before 5 and had the fish in the net for 5.15, couldn't believe it, my 1st salmon from the faughan too
@@FeildsportsNI brilliant what a fish for your 1st on the Faughan . Can’t wait to get at them again this year hopefully we get a good run of fish and nice water
Nice one
Thanks
Hi there, just found you and subscribed, congratulations on reaching 200 subs… As someone who only uses Barbless, I agree with other comments, kinder on the fish, less hassle when they come out in the net and don’t hurt as much when they catch you in the back of the ear on a windy day… these are some cracking fish and just as frustrating when they pop off as those we have this side of the water… Good luck.
Thanks, barbs are crushed but could maybe do with another bit of a squeeze hard to get it right and not damage the hook too much
Lovely big fish but barbed hooks would be better sounds like the fish's jaws are getting plucked and damaged
I tie on b175s and crush the barbs, hard to get the barbs completely flat sometimes without damaging the hook too much
Good fish but Barbless hooks mate come out easier and doesnt pluck the fishes mouth. Tight lines mate 👍
Cheers barbs are crushed but the 1st fish had it in a hard part on the roof of its mouth
@@FeildsportsNI can hear them pluck and see them sticking mate. Multiple times. Maybe not crushed enough eh 😂 not having a dig just giving a bit of advice. Barbless work just as good i
Lol yeaaaaaaaah got agree looks like barbed or not fully crushed hooks lmao
Hard to get it right crushing the barbs had crushed a few of them too much and it can end with a snapped hook if it gets snagged or a decent fish takes it
Wudnt matter if there barbed or not it’s just aul stocked fish. Good fighting tho
Its a sub n thumb from me ,great stuff
Cheers 🎣
Good fishing! 🎣🎣👌👌
Thanks mate 🎣
nice fishes,keep it up!
Thanks!
Other bank better choice.
Hell sure its not this is my local pool
What bait were you using?
It's a fly that imitates a small baitfish
@@FeildsportsNI Yes, I’ve been doing a bit of research on this with a view to starting sea fly fishing myself. Do you make your own or is there a source you would recommend?
@jimisherwood2632 Fulling Mill Los Roques Minnow Green, that was the fly I was using in the video but if I'm targeting pollock I'd usually use a sandeel imagination or a clouser minnow. I tie alot of my flies myself too
Thanks for that. I just need to get some tackle together now, that’s the expensive part!
fighting an unbeatable battle
Hard landed from that spot fighting both the fish and the river
Probably snagged
Probably snagged
Nice video. What Rod reel and line combo are you using ?
Thanks, it's the guideline lpx chrome switch in #8/9 with the halo black stealth reel and the line is rio scandi short versitip
Great channel
Thanks!
That was instant hook up to bad leader broke no way to play it
Didn't break, she just got to top of the water and shook the hook
Bruh you in Tibet?
that made my seatrout fishing impossible this year!! they followed me everywhere i went 😂😂
They're good craic but you'd definitely prefer a seatrout over a mackerel
@@FeildsportsNI i was still gettin them last week mate but i was kinda glad to see so many in this year been a while since they where like that near me
@@whitetroutchannel crazy that they're still around the shore this late in the year
@@FeildsportsNI i guess those big russian boats werent operating this year mate coz of that war and its give the fish a chance to get here 4 once
Keep up the grind mate consistency is your key to growth
Cheers
We don't get to see the salmon? I bet it was a stick.
It came off that why I shouted at the end
I know the feeling. I fly fish, also. I've screamed more than a few times.
When you fish downstream you typically lightly hook the fish as you can’t set it like you could in upstream that’s why you lost the fish essentially pulling it out of its mouth.
Fishing for atlantic salmon you fish down and across and let the flies swing around in the current
@@FeildsportsNII guess one looses many because the salmon is not eating. My experience has been that I loose at least one of three.
Blue charm?
A self tied pink patton, hooked a few on it this year
Nice, where are you?
Thanks, the river Faughan in Northern Ireland
