I could watch this for hours (and not be sore!) Thanks bro very cool 👍
@@fixit6431 your very welcome!
Damn good racing. It's pretty insane how you get the holeshot a majority of the time.. nice! What mods are you running? Seems like that thing has more torque than stock.
Has a wiseco forged piston, Hpd trail pipe, shaved head, and a Keihin PWK 39mm quadvent carburetor.
@timothyzeimet4972 hows the pipe and carb been for you? I'm about to put a AAEN Top end pipe on my scrambler 400 with a 38 tmx flatside. Gonna see how those help the stock 400.
The pipe moves the power band a little higher in the rpms and ramps the torque up. Change the clutching springs to grab right when the pipe kicks in. The Keihin absolutely runs the engine beautifully. Very fast fuel transition, and no hickups right into wide open throttle. The biggest hurdle mounting the carb is finding the head side mount to fit the big mouth of the carb.
@timothyzeimet4972 ah okay. That sounds like a great setup. Yeah I could see how the bigger carb could have that problem. Good to know. If I don't like my setup, I might just go the way you went, and for sure clutching to match the pipe helps a ton. Are you still running stock head shaved or a billet head? I'm also getting a maxicool head from aaen for the girdle kit to maximize reliability. How has your reliability been? Thanks!
Stock head shaved, if i did any more mods for power id probably brace the lower cylinder. Feels like 50hp but really i dont need much more than that is xc. The 700 lb machine is not nimble and takes a lot of upper body strength to tame in the turns
I like that old school shit there , it like watching my old man sit on his Harley. Kick start it with his hand
Yeah buddy!!
I was really getting pumped on that start.
All them racing stickers and upgrades to then install a heavy-ass Magnum bumper on the bike!! Very odd
Just as fast without it lol. Not as heavy as you think. Front end can come down off a 4 ft jump and not bottom out.
If you rode it yourself you would have a different opinion. Easily pulls a holeshot on modern racing quads.
That thing is fast off the line can’t wait for my 400 to be done
Gotta keep these things flyin!
Yeah buddy nice riding!
That was painful to watch I have one of those that’s not running good
It ran perfect so im not sure what was painful? I have switches to activate the rev limiter in forward gear. Sold this rig not to long ago with a built engine.
Awesome track !!! I wish I had that much land to ride on.
Thank you! We have been blessed to be where we are.
How many acres is this trail on ?
@@michaelmangrum5460 The trail itself is 2.5 miles long atm. I have 40 acres of XC woodlands at my disposal. Quite a bit has not been used yet. Just gotta find time to blow the trail, condition it, and ride it down.
@hallokid84 is this how you feel when you pull up to your 95 400..?
That's a sketchy section at the 40:00 mark. Wow!
Sure was, luckily everyone was holding control.
Hey bro.....i need to know which side down or up....one side have the wire spring in? Which way the wire spring goes in.....lmk asap. If anyone read my message please lmk asap....ty
Seal tensioning spring always faces the fluid. Good luck!
Is this what you are talking abput?
@@timothyzeimet4972 so the wire spring is face down...rt?
Please add me on facebook. I need pictures from you.
Are you talking about the seal?
hi where did u get that seal driving tool ? tks
That is actually a pinion bearing race driver tool, but works really well for the big seals. Sorry for the delay
Im looking at buying a Sport 400 L that idles great and has good power once its moving but when i nailed the gas from a stop it was weak. Kinda surged a bit abd slowly rolled away, then at like 7-8 mph it took off. Also a decent amount of oil smoke wafting out of exhaust at low speed. This is at 6000' elevation. Thinking its too rich off idle maybe? Along with worn clutch spring.
Your correct. A extra rich condition on a 2 causes the combustion chamber temperature to plummet which doesnt allow a complete burn of the oil in the fuel. Look for worn or incorrect carb jetting and parts
Sweet this is how I feel when I pull up to my 95 400l..

What setup do you have ? ( pipe)
HPD Trail pipe, aaen silencer, keihin 39mm carb, ritter clutch springs, air box delete, 91 octane klotz 40:1 pre mix, oil injection delete
And wiseco forged top end.
God bless you bro for making these videos. You are smooth at what you do.
More to come soon on the more difficult repairs.
@@timothyzeimet4972 thanks, I have to do the rear strut seal as well. Any tips for that install? Currently have it apart with strut cleaned and hanging freely. Can I drive seal in with strut attached to quad?
We have a shop that does our rear shock work for racing so i have no experience with that.
@@timothyzeimet4972 not rear shock seal, rear strut seal. I have fluid leaking out of it and running onto my rotors and wheels.
Make sure the seal cavity is clean and install in the same process as the front. Even and flush to mounting surface. A seal driver kit would make this side installation way easier due to the recessed cavity.
You've gone a little bit too fast right where my problem maybe is. The little spring that goes around the hub seal's rubber goes INSIDE of the hub or OUTSIDE ? I changed these 3 times now and it keeps leaking (like real bad) at first I did put the spring inside but it got off while installing the hub back in place and destroyed the rubbers from the inside while I was riding ... So I figured out I did it wrong, bought another kit and put the spring outside of the hub but it keeps leaking very badly. I grow very tired of waisting my time and money on this HELP !
Hello. So the spring will always face the fluid it is retaining. That being said their are 2 seals in these 4wd hubs. 1 for the hub shown in my how to and a seal that rides on the axle shaft that goes into the back of the strut. You may have the strut seal bad as well. When installing seals only drive them hard enough to get them to flush mount. Any harder will blow the tension spring off the seal and cause seal failure. Seal riding surfaces should be clean, smooth, and free of pitting.
Yes he did goes fast n didn't tell us which way it goes down.....did u fix ur leaks? Lmk.my way leaking thats why i change it but i will see if it leak....ty
I did "fix" the leak by removing the 6 moving parts and filled both hubs with grease. It's not 4x4 anymore and I don't care. When is the last time I used that function anyway (?) like never ...
Quiero cambiar el árbol de levas motor 2.8
was yamaha of harrison there?
I do not think so. Didnt see anything by the race trailer.
why..
The question is.....why not. When you can sling a total assembly weight of 600lbs down a trail at 30mph and still get a podium finish its the best feeling in the world. What would you have done differently?
Is perfect
Thanks for posting this
No problem!
How many turns out do you have the idle speed screw at I have everything you have but I can’t get the idle speed right
If you are referring to the pilot air screw i have that 1.5 turns out. The mixture on the pilot circuit plays a big role in how the engine will respond to idle speed adjustments.
@@timothyzeimet4972 dang I ended up having to go back down on my jet because it was running like crap even at 1.5 turns out
where did u get that heater for that fan thats cool
You can get the fan and heater at harbor freight. I use it for my hands when they get too cold
R you racing today
Not for the dirt bike races.

Cuanto cuesta el motor
Sounds crispy 🤌
Awesome , I have the same machine also.my dad gave it to me.man was this thing a mess.🤣😅 do you remember what needle you had in the slide? Because I bought a rebuild kit from All Balls. And the needle that came in the kit is a lot fatter than the one that was in the ATV
So the fat needle will run the fuel transition way too lean. I can get you the needle number i used on the xplorer. I do remember it was gold in color. Going to be doing a big shop update video today on a lot of scrambler upgrades ive done recently. Very exciting stuff. Thank you for the sub.
@@timothyzeimet4972 your welcome. I was at the polaris dealer today and the parts guy told me the needle that belongs on that carb is a , 6-DH29.the atv is stock otherwise. What brand winch is that ? And the switches on the dash must be for the winch? Thanks
Jet needle in my particular build is a 6CEY6. Slide is a 1.5.
The switches on the hat allow me to control the reverse rpm limiter in foreward gear for extreme offroading where reduced power is sufficient. The other switch allows me to bypass the rad fan on when crawling strenuous trails continually in low gear puts a strain on the cooling system.
The winch is a badlands 3500 zxr with a kfi industries winch mount.
thank you!!!!!!!
You are very welcome
he slow
Thanks for noticing! It was my first time so just like anyone doing this sport for the first time you will be slow. 9 years of mechanics does a number on your joints and finishing 7th in my class without a stabilizer and not giving up was a major accomplishment. I can only get better from here on in. Thanks for watching. Keep in mind this race was 1.75 hours. I was on this machine riding this terrain for 1 hour 58 minutes non stop.
@@timothyzeimet4972 my bad g
Great video, bummer on your GoPro battery. SxS course was the same up to around the 30 minute mark, way to hang on out there.
You too! Hope to see you next year
That was a great race out there I was the guy on the Suzuki z400 that took off at the start
That was my first time. It was so badass man. Good to see ya! Il be back next year if you guys run mountain grove again.
@@timothyzeimet4972 it was my first race as well! Awesome experience and I’ll definitely keep doing it till I can’t no more
Our 1st time too! Had a blast and hope to return.
How fast she run
This machine hasnt had a speed test yet. The motor got transferred to a 2000 scrambler. The scrambler ran 57mph but also had a HPD pipe on it.
Hey, I have the same pipe on my 400 it sound really nice. I have been trying to find the 2 manifold seals and cant find them. Do you know what year or machine they came out from? Thanks
As far as i can tell these gas rings were provided with the hpd pipe and the slip manifold. They appear to be pretty durable rings. Finding replacements may be impossible as high performance designs went under a long time ago. Seek out a man named Rick Ritter of ritter cycle racing. He may have some laying around.
Hay Tim , it’s Tom again from NJ it think we spoke once before. Any way I’m doing the seals and my berings on 2001 sportsman. Just wondering if any of the 4 berings get packed with grease ? Or do they all get lubricated from the front hub . Thanks great video and love the clean work area .
No grease, use polaris demand drive fluid or type f automatic trans fluid.
@@timothyzeimet4972 thanks buddy hope all is well
Yes im doing great. We are prepparing for a cross country race at the end of this month
@@timothyzeimet4972good job, good luck
If you need to get ahold of me please reach out to my facebook messenger.
Can’t thank you enough buddy. Video was very informative also love the clean work space. Everything in order. Don’t know how some guys do it with parts and crap laying all around. Thanks again Tom
Thank you for the credit and support. More to come when i can get time.
@@timothyzeimet4972 I hear ya brother. Hip replacement next week. Trying to get all my winter stuff done before surgery. I’m in NJ . Crazy Busy at work.
Get well friend. Safe recovery.
@@timothyzeimet4972 thanks buddy I’m sure I’ll be talking to you for more advice lol .
Tim , one more thing I’m doing the seals as you know on my 2001 sportsman. My question is on the new Berings I’m putting in do I need to pack them with grease or will the demand fluid take care of the lubrication. Thanks Tom
Do you run the machine without the snorkel on the clutch cover? Actually that might be the exhaust side of the CVT.
I run the cover with all pipes connected. I also replaced the inner cover water seal behind the primary clutch. Belt stays dry in the creek and big puddles.
Installing the lower pipe required me to remove the inner clutch cover
Is the pipe rubbing on any part of your ATV? Most of these aftermarket pipes end up rubbing on the stator cover or on the gear indicator harness. Sounds nice 👍🏼
Yes this hpd pipe rubs the stator cover and harness connector
@@timothyzeimet4972 did you get any extra noise from the clutch cover with the pipe install? I saw your video and mine makes a similar noise. I don’t think it’s bad, but it’s definitely louder than stock. (The clutch/belt)
@@georgeronquillo1851 so the hpd pipe has a standoff on the top that is supposed to have a vibra mount bolt that keeps it off the upper frame rail but its been rotted away and i havent designed a new one yet. It will make a pop pop when it bounces off.
@@georgeronquillo1851 You also need to be very mindful of piston slap on these machines. The cast piston "will" grenade the skirts and drop them in the crankcase. My 400 i built with a wiseco forged piston to fix the problem. I know a machine shop that does them perfectly and offers a kit with the work.
TY BRO. Doing my sportsman now > You gave me the perfect foreshadow of events. 🍻
Glad i could help.

Hello I have the same quad 1996 polaris explorer 400 4x4 just wondering what did you do to tune it and sounds awesome. And I'm looking for a gas gauge like yours . My exhaust is way to quit I like it loud. Thanks
I ditched the Vm34ss carb that was on it due to wear. I purchased a mikuni vm34-275 i used the oem needle and cutaway slide and the needle clip at the very top. I used a 200 main, 30 pilot, and a br7es plug. This smoothed the transition through the circuits and made this machine very trailable even in extreme terrain. The plug is a tan color under any riding condition with the original expansion pipe
The gas guage is made by a company called kelch. Its not 100 percent accurate but give me a good idea of where my fuel level is at.
Thanks
