On Location: Meadow Ridge MetroPark
I embark on a solitary walk at this Butler County metropark. I spend a lot of time walking along Dave's Trace, the Twin Lakes trails, and the North and South ponds. Fortunately these trails are paved and mostly flat, so ice is not too big of a concern for the winter. 00:00 Meadow Ridge 02:28 Coopers Hawk 05:08 American Kestrel 08:10 Bald Eagle Website: www.ryanltaylor.com Nature Photograph...

The Hooded Merganser (Lophodytes cucullatus) is a diving duck that is commonly found year-round in Ohio and with a range across North America. You can see the birds as they swim, preen, and show courtship displays (at least in the males.) The video footage was shot on location at a local lake near Cincinnati over a two day period in December 2024. Website: www.ryanltaylor.com Nature Photographe...

For today's visit to this Cincinnati park, I set out at sunrise through the paved paths that wind through the area. As the haze subsides and humidity starts to increase, my next point of interest is the trails along the Little Miami River. Stay tuned for the images at the end of the video. If I didn't look for one of my old friends close to 30 years ago that was on Facebook maybe 35 I wouldn't have bothered with it but now since I have all of my photos they are my online storage they ain't going nowhere and I very seldom use it
The lens I was referring to that I just got last week is the Pentax DA 10-17 fisheye
Good morning my fellow ohioan what shenanigans are we getting into this morning I see that you are still out and about That's a good thing As for me my good man I am sitting on the couch at the moment debating to get my butt out of the apartment it's not the cold it's the ugly gray skies and the closest I can get to with my headaches permanent condition brain stems to accumigraines back aches and everything else in between would be Rocky River nature center and yes I did get that new lens I did go out last week with it although I made a big boo-boo I didn't have it in raw I had it in JPEG so I had a very hard time and putting the photograph back together like you're just supposed to be yeah when you're doing a fisheye not the best of things to try to work with without the proper lens correction in Lightroom well have yourself a good day
Great video and great work brother. Looking forward to our adventures in 25!
Thanks man and same to you! Let's make this year a good one.
Really cool my friend!
Thanks for bringing us along. Blue herons are probably my favorite bird, though we don't really have them where I live now.
Thanks for watching! Where do you live now? They seem to be everywhere in the midwest.
@@ryanltaylorphoto Alaska. We do have blue herons in parts of the state but I have never seen any in my area. We do, however, have sandhill cranes, trumpeter swans, and lots of other birds, of course. But I do miss seeing blue herons
Cool!!!
Thanks Cole!
Hey Ryan! Great stuff!
Thanks Lance!
It’s mesmerizing there, isn’t it? What a gem we have here in Cincinnati. I stop here everyday before I pick up my son from school for some of nature’s peace. I’ve even uploaded some of my own videos. Crazy that there are about 8 waterfalls there in total if you walk up the entire trail.
Yes I've grown to love the hiking trails here. Also glad to finally get some images of all those waterfalls too.
Cool waterfall! I share the same type of scenery on my channel.
It is! I'll have to watch some of your videos here soon.
Sweet
Thanks for watching Cole!
Thanks for bringing us along. I really enjoyed that Cone flower shot @ 9:54
Thanks Brian! Glad to hear that you enjoyed it.
Today is Sat 7/ 27..i think. WOW! An hr. ago i was totally blessed... when a Mama Turkey( hen) & her 8 tiny Fuzz Balls strolled slowly in my backyard. Groovin' on all tbe Birdseeds i had scatteted 30 mns. before. SOooo amazing. MaMa was HUGE...& the babies were in very good hands. I think they will return.
Oh wow!
I managed to visit Ottawa NWR in Ohio the other day and the trails there are very nice.
Awesome! Ottawa is a wonderful place.
The various compositions are diverse and interesting as always good job Ryan
Kind words, thank you!
Really love the bird photographs. Congratulations on a great year.
Thank you so much Katie! Glad you enjoyed it.
Congratulations on the show. Very impressive work.
I appreciate that! There has been a very positive reception so far.
@@ryanltaylorphoto That's great! Your photography is helping people appreciate nature.
Great shots in the end! Well done!
Thanks Daniel!
Your video beautifully presents the details of small things growing in nature. I really enjoyed it and have subscribed to your channel. One more thing, it would be beneficial to work on the video hooks and thumbnails. These help increase the click-through rate (CTR) and average view duration, attracting new audiences to your channel. Let me know if you need any help with this.
Thanks for subscribing and I am fine with the small audience I have, thanks for the feedback!
Beechwood Trail looks very nice in Spring. Cool video Ryan good for you!
It was a beautiful to hike through, thanks for watching!
I dont usually leave comments but I subscribed and hit the notification bell. I appreciate seeing the new parks and take my kids on hikes to as many new parks as I can. I'm from Dayton but will definitely enjoy seeing these parks further south. This one looks very cool.
Thanks for the comment and welcome to the channel! Up until this past spring, I've lived in Dayton the past 28 years. As you can see from my channel, most of the videos are from that area. Enjoy the entire catalog!
Excellent video Ryan
Thank you and glad you enjoyed it!
Cool video with lots of useful information I didn’t know it was the only natl wildlife refuge in Ohio I must check it out!
It is well worth the visit, thanks for watching!
If you want to see more Black-crowned Night Herons make a trip to Chicago. There is a huge wild colony that has nested at the Lincoln Park Zoo above the wolf compound for years now. Around 700 birds, Endangered bird in Illinois but they spread out all over Chicago every night. In the spring you can watch them flying back and forth with branches they have broken off nearby trees.
Hey Stephen, thanks for the advice! I have since this video seen them more out in the open with some images captured fortunately but that sounds worthwhile to put on my traveling list. Thanks for watching too!
Looks like a great area
For sure! One of my favorite areas for nature photography and maintained by a wonderful nonprofit called the Beaver Creek Wetlands Association.
Cool area!!! looks like a fun trip. Still trying to figure out a Magee trip for 2024!
Thanks Cole! Fernald is a really cool place. Hope to see you back in Ohio in May.
Spectacular!
Thanks Lance!
Awesome!
Thanks Lance!
I have been following these principles since I started to photograph nature 20 years ago but I just became aware of this alliance. I was looking for videos where members were promoting it but I could hardly find a recent one. I was delighted to see yours. I think we should promote it more often. I'm going to create one myself soon because it's a really important message we have to share.
Please do make your own video and share it, the idea for making this one started when they recently laid off a lot of staff due to funding. I had asked the founders what I could do to promote them more.
Ryan, Good information. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Nice capture. Thanks for sharing so amazing footages & Wish a very Happy New Year.
Of course, thank you and happy new year to you too!
Great images from a great year! Glad we connected!
Same to you!
Hi Ryan! Ryan Jacob from Black Swamp Bird Observatory here. Excellent video and recap of The Biggest Week! Good luck with a Hooded next year, hopefully Oak Openings is one of your stops.
Thank you Jacob! Yes I will try for Oak Openings again next May.
Where at?
Howard Marsh in Northeast Ohio
Hell yeah Ryan! Still stoked we finally got to shoot together! Great video as always!
It was a great time!
Nice to meet you! you shared great trip! peace out- 🤙
What is the plan with the podcast??? Unless I missed it?
Henry and I have been pretty busy so not anything planned in the near future. Though never say never!
Good Video Ryan! enjoyed it!
Thank you Cole!
I was really glad to see all the upcoming videos you have posted. I will look forward to seeing your travels again.
Thank you Chris, hope to see more videos from you too.
I was out there Tuesday evening trying to figure out if there were any Trails other than the road
Yeah there isn't too many there from what I found however the solitude makes it better for finding birds.
Beautiful shots of eagles man, so well done!👍
Thank you glad you enjoyed it!
It would also be relevant to note that McGee Marsh is just to east of Ottawa NWR. McGee is well known for being one of the best locations in the country to spot warblers as well as many other species. I usually walk from McGee over to Ottawa when I visit.
Yes they are nearby and worth visiting back to back. :)
East Harbor? Or is it Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge?
This was near Magee Marsh Wildlife Area.
a lil guy! a small man! a lil baby boy!!
They are spectacular!
So much talking about nothing.
That's unfortunate Greg, I see your channel doesn't have any videos. Maybe this is an opportunity to create a better one? :) Take care.
Terrible audio. But still interesting to watch for people to get a general ideal of the area, thanks for sharing.
Yeah it's tough with all the wind and everyone on the boardwalk, thanks for watching.
Ludlow Creek
Well done, good story!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Actually there are 2 other Ohio national wildlife refuges, cedar point nwr, and west sister island nwr, but they are both part of the ottawa nwr complex
Yes thank you for the correction! However the Ottawa portion I visited is the only one open to the public.
@@ryanltaylorphoto yeah. Other than some other small units scattered around northwest Ohio it’s the only one open to the public
How can you tell between ring billed and herring gulls?
Good question! Ring Billed live up to their name and typically have a black ring near the tip of their bill, whereas the Herring are slightly larger and lack that feature. There's of course more details to differentiate the two but that's a start.
@@ryanltaylorphoto thanks! Now I know. I just assumed every gull I saw by the beach was a ring bill, then I realized that there is another common gull in that area
