Not much special to it, just hug and walk around the middle support pillar in the hallway as you walk around it. You can also skip the fight if you happened to complete the Wutai questline. Wasn't able to find this posted online beyond a few vague descriptions, so I figured I'd post this for posterity / for help with a specific RetroAchievement.

Timing for the other runs seems to be from power on until the loading screen blacks out, hence my timing choice. I put way too much effort into this. How'd you skip one of the loading screens? "Sony computers entertainment America presents"
You can trigger the debug menu on that screen; all I did was spam Start+Select to activate the (allowed) cheat patch until the debug menu came up. If that's not possible in other versions, maybe it's some quirk of JP 1.1 or playing on a virtual HDD or whatever. All I know for sure is that it works.
