I own a bike and I spend about $100 a year on it! But I do have to worry about it getting stolen and finding a place to park / lock it up!

Great video Joel, make some change. In Toronto our bike share is good but is also expensive. We pay per minute which as you can imagine encourages poor behavior. I don't ride enough for a membership and a day pass is $cdn15.

In Paris our most expensive scheme, that allows you to use e-bikes in complement of regular bikes, is €99/$108, the ordinary yearly plan is €40/$43, and there was an outcry because the prices have gone up!

So because you asked, a citibike membership has only one advantage compared to a Lyft Pink membership which is that Citi Bike annual caps your Manhattan to outerboro e-bike rides at $3.50, which if that's something you take advantage of could save you quite a bit of money. Otherwise, Lyft Pink provides more benefits for cheaper.

Interesting and useful. One other option not mentioned is foldable bikes. They typically have 16" or 20" wheels and can be folded and carried/wheeled with you at your destination, minimizing the theft risk. And no wretched daily-use fees. Folding e-bikes are available who want/need the boost.

Biking should 100% be apart of NYC public transit.

Great vid. NYC is a really cool city and it's really nice to see the perspective of someone who lives there. It's a shame that its bike share is privatized; as the least car-dependent city in the country it deserves better.

This is a genius video and more people need to see it. I've been riding Citibike for 10 years, NYC needs to step in and fix the pricing, especially since it agreed to make Citibike a monopoly as you pointed out, it's not right! Thanks for the tip on Lyft Pink.

My yearly bike maintenance cost is $20 for a chain. $25 for new tubes. A bottle of chain lube is $15 and it lasts me 3 years. Tires are $70 and last me about 3 years. There's no way I'm paying more per year than that bike share costs.

I would rather buy a nice folding bike and pay the yearly fixing fee of around two hundred bucks a year, than to use any bike share or public transportation. I would use public transportation if the weather is really bad or I am sick. I am kinda handy with bikes so I can fix most things on my own tho. I use my bike to get around most of the time so the rare get on an uber or use public transportation isn't a problem for me. When the citi bike share thing first came out, I thought it was great but now it is just another way to suck money out of your pocket. NYC is always trying to find ways to get every penny out of our pockets and rely on trash service. I would advise anyone who wants to ride a bike around NYC to just get their own bike, a folding bike ( a brompton is a nice choice but there are many other cheaper options.) and you can bring it almost everywhere you go.
