If you were sat at home on a Sunday afternoon in 1923 you might have been to church in the morning, had your Sunday lunch and now are waiting for TV to be invented. Having family photos to look through and organise in albums and show to your neighbours might well have been a swell pastime. You need a camera of course but they are expensive, or are they?

Mostly Vintage Cameras Introduction

This is a reel of video clips to give an idea of what Mostly Vintage Cameras is all about. Having spent many years working in the world of photography including various camera shops throught the 1980's (whcih we all know was the best decade) and 1990's I wanted to share some of the information learned in a practical way to help people wanting to use film cameras. How to use a Nikon F60, N60 with Harman Phoenix photos
Просмотров 7864 месяца назад
One of a Plethora of entry level SLR cameras that came out in the 90's. This is a very low cost way into the Nikon system but like all these "starter" cameras one can also outgrow it (having bought into the system first). For some reason the F60 seem to attract a degree of criticism that similar cameras don't seem to. Is it unjustly maligned or it there something fundamentally wrong?

How to load a film in a Nikon F60 AKA N60. What to do if the film does not load, how to cope with non-DX coded films and how to "rerate" your film speed for push or pull processing. This camera is somtimes critisised for not having manual ISO settings and why that is and what can be done about it. Also there is some recomendation about films to use.

    I sold cameras in the mid eighties. Chinon, were a bit plasticy and broke down more than any other brand at the time that we sold. But they are nice enough, and their 50 mm 1,7 is a kliler lens. But that data back was a stunning piece of gear, havent seen it since.

    Very helpful video, thank you. I bought one on eBay for £30 + postage and it came with new batteries. I didn’t remove them and I’ve had to replace them after 3 weeks having not even used the camera apart from testing the AF. My sense is that this camera drains batteries quite quickly, understandable as they have to power quite a lot of functions including of course the AF lens. I’m really looking forward to using the camera and this video has encouraged me to get out there and start shooting.

    Great video! I was trying to figure out the depth of field preview myself. The manual says to always open the aperture to its widest, then smallest (which would naturally happen) before returning the lens to “A”. It also mentions pressing the “AE-Lock pin” too before and after. I couldn’t follow the manual there and didn’t understand the reasoning if these two steps

      these are getting old now and the selenium cells won't last for ever. firstly compare it to a reliable meter. if it matches and you want to keep using it then keep the button in and the cell covered will prolong its life.

    Thanks so much for your discussion of the Minox cameras. I've always had an EL sitting in a box with other things, and am educating myself about it. It seems to work, though I need to put a roll of film through it to test it. Something I've noticed in your videos is that you're using 24 exp rolls of film. I have understood from other videos that the EL doesn't tolerate 36 exp rolls well. The film advance mechanism starts tearing through the sprocket holes at the end of the roll. I haven't tried it yet, but I think I will stick with 24 exp for now. Also, I'm thrilled to expect a sharp lens. I've used an Olympus Epic Stylus for a long time and it's never struck me as being particularly sharp. Your results from the Minox are definitely a level above the Olympus. Thanks so much for sharing your collection.

    Good effort on the review. I bought one of these, new, back in 1999, it was my first SLR and I cut my teeth on it before getting a beautiful fully manual Nikon FE. Unfortunately it was at that watershed moment between analogue and digital, and I ended up getting a D70 in 2004 which I still use as my main tool today, and both my analogue cameras ended up languishing in a cupboard for two decades. But I've just signed up for a b&w developing course this summer, so thanks to your video, I'm dusting off my Dynax and I'll be taking it round the Pyrenees for some landscape work next week. Cheers!

      Hello honghung, Use good batteries. Make sure the film is loaded correctly and you press the rewind button in when you come to remove the film. It may seem wastful but if you can get a spre roll of film it is well worth loading, shooting and rewinding a test film before setting out to take photos propper. When I say shoot a test film I just mean sot on your sofa and fire off and wind on all the frames on your sacrificail test roll just to ge tthe hang of it. Have fun MVC

    It looks like a great camera 📷 I'm just a bit concerned they've priced it a little too high to tenpt in those new film shooters?😮🤔 I wish them every success with it abd we have to aknowledge this is a good thing for analogue photography and will hopefully mean other camera manufacturers throwing their hat into the analogue ring. I suspect Pentax will release a full frame camera based on this design with juat a few mods.😊

    That's a very good point! If pentax are going to design a new film camera chassis, it might as well be full frame compatible. Hopefully they follow this up soon; if they were really smart they'd also have designed the film transport system to fit around one of their DSLR mirror assemblies... I am quite confused by the lens movement - linking the focus directly to the focus ring worked for decades; I can't see any problem solved by adding another actuator.

    • @mostlyvintagecameras4323
      @mostlyvintagecameras4323 2 месяца назад

      Please bear in mind I'm only guessing how the mechanism works. The focus ring in defo more of a "selector" and the lens moves as a separate process.
