Based in Chamonix for the past 14 years, Tom guides leaders through profound nature-based experiences, including Vision Quests where clients spend four days and nights in wild spaces. Coaching Outdoors Podcast Episode 50 - Nicki Bass
As Paul said, "your energy is palpable". What a great example of a curious soul and long life learner integrating it all into wonderful offerings. I echo the "more mindful we are, the more we connect with nature, the more our environmental behaviour changes". We care for what we love.
Greatly respect your depth Anna. And love the co-creation with the trees in constellation work.
Lovely conversation, thank you all. The simple and profound act of "going out to the land and finding something we are proud of". And this...."Change your questions, change your life"
Thanks Jim - I very much appreciated you sharing your story, and the dance of following one's intuition and planning ahead. And yes to micro-adventures!
"Nature communicates through emotion. Nature communicates through symbolism, analogy and metaphor". Thank you for your depth and sharing Raynelle.
I was touched by Lindsay's path and feel that her work with veteran's is an act of ancestral healing.
thanks for expanding my perspectives Sam! I have incorporated the exercise of "entering a challenge into Chat GPT to see what it comes up" into my coaching development journey! Recently I listened to an ICF Community of Practice webinar with Dr. Nicky Terblanche, who has built coachvidi and coachvici as AI coaches. Very interesting.
Listened to your episode Claire, and immediately went online to check out Street Wisdom..and buy your coaching cards.
I am a horse-lover from childhood but have never incorporated horses into my coaching so thank you Kirsteen for bringing in these most graceful and powerful beings into the conversation here. (Would have also been curious to hear how Paul and you co-create with Pebbles Associates - a conscious couple that are in business together does a lot to transform the world I think!)
Thanks Jenn and team for your generous conversation - inspiring with diverse modalities, 'business listening' and a living curriculum. And exciting to mention Veda..she is coming to Mallorca this month!. (Appreciated your point Anna-marie how coaching has evolved from the 80s and 90s! )
#everydayadventures - yes to that! Thank you Nicki for reminding us of the unlimited ways we can experiment, play and engage with life.
Enchanted by the DJ and songbird story and the simple profound invitation to listen to the soundscape wherever we are. And for sure, listening to Eleanor made me want to do some research (And thanks for the tip to write to academics directly to see if they are willing to share their papers).
So energising to listen to Joao, a true citizen of the world. Love his curiosity and generosity encapsulated in his beautiful statement "Never underestimate the power of sharing something with your open heart. Never".
So appreciate your pragmatism Pam and generous sharing of your nature toolkit, from the picture of the rose to nature in a bag.
Really appreciated having the coachees perspective here. And am sure Ian is also a great coach. May find myself saying "looking under the bonnet of the car" as a result.
what a woman!
Was amazing! Thanks Gratman!!
Amazing research and mapping, that can positively impact Population Health. Coaching Outdoors has the evidence to move out . Thank you .
Thank you! I thought that coaching outdoors could not be possible virtually 😮 Amazed and thankful to watch all the episodes ;)
I need a waterproof notebook and a dictaphone. Thank you.
Claudia ❤ it. Thank you , I may find my tribe and it started here.69 pocasts to go!
a lovely anthology, also celebrating of the quintessential international woman, Gaia herself! Thank you team for doing all what you do to inspire coaching outdoors.
That was really interesting. Thank you all. And can I suggest if there is a outdoor coaching conference it’s at wherever Alexandra is!!!
Thank you Tracy! We loved interviewing Claudia, especially as she's focusing on research which is so important. And a Coaching Outdoors Conference in Scotland sounds like a great idea! Alex
Really appreciate Susan's wider vision ...and action. And there is a fine line between wanting to have skilled guides, and institutionalising/colonising nature based practices. Like philosopher Charles Eisenstein's provocation to the coaching community (not his exact words)...creating an industry out of something that humans have always needed and sought: a good conversation.
a well timed posting during Libra season as it is such an inspiration in collaboration and communication!
Great questions, great advice, and compliments to the editor husband for putting it altogether! Love how you are all building the outdoor coaching community, one invitation, one conversation, one episode, one idea at a time.
Enjoyed this yarn - great to hear how the cycles are being brought into the business arena in an outdoor setting.
lovely to have your attention here Lizzie-kin
Pᵣₒmₒˢᵐ
Another inspiring episode of the #coachingoutdoorspodcast. So much richness in what you shared Toby. Thanks for introducing the tripod of nature literacy and I appreciated what you said about "typically our awareness is tiny and our impact huge".
Thank you for the lovely comment Penelope. Toby gave us such great insight which I think will make us all stop and think - how can we make our bubble of impact smaller and our bubble of awareness bigger?
Diana, you have made a fantastic contribution to nature-based coaching. Grazie mille
Penelope here dynamic duo, so wonderful to be part of your growing 'stable' of outdoor coaching practitioners', in service of #coaching and #peopleandplanet. You are nurturing a #globalmovement. And I feel so encouraged by your love, attention and support.
So enjoyed listening to you articulate your approach Lesley. And congratulations on your award. Wouldn't it be wonderful indeed if coaching training by default included coaching outdoors, or nature-based approaches! And your 4 walls vs. outdoors reflection made me think of the parallels between control vs wildness within ourselves and systemically.
thank you for all what you do for the coaching profession and those it serves Liz. In this conversation, I particularly appreciated you reflecting back the themes you are noticing such as vocalisation of activism; generosity of sharing different approaches, and the variety of invitations to dance.
such a courageous journey of healing. And coming across the right person/group/process/learning/owl at the right time. The power of men's circles, 4 Directions integrating all those parts of ourselves (Lover, Warrior, Magician, Sovereign) all held and observed by wider nature. Thank you Joe.
so much richness in what you say James. As a people-pleaser, I too appreciate the planet-pleaser shift in perspective and have already quoted you on a walk with a friend! Thanks also for pointing to the work of Miles Richardson - wow.
enchanting to hear how you are weaving beautiful work and offerings Gwyneth Jones - role modelling 'learner as coach'. We have much to thank #joannamacy for ah!, And loved you mentioning #billplotkin and #soulcraft - I was super excited to interview Bill on the #earthconversepodcast.
So much respect for what Prof David Clutterbuck has contributed to the world!, particularly our coaching profession. And I would say that the 2 questions of 'what can we do as coaches to support climate change action' and 'how do we bring the outdoors into coaching' are inextricably linked..and indeed one answer to the former, is doing the latter.
Always pearls of wisdom tuning into what Professor Peter Hawkins has to say. So many but "let nature do the coaching'; "start coaching outdoors, indoors", 'multi-systemic lens attending (deep listening); and of course the 7 level model is gold (including bringing in ancestoral stakeholders). And not 'raiding' nature (although I do raid his wisdom!). Reminds me of what one of my vision fast guides said about nature as a metaphor. eg: "yes, the mountain can be a symbol of your challenges you can climb..and maybe it just wants to be a mountain".
Thanks Lennie - a nice distinction between coaching outdoors and nature coaching. Love the deer story too.
A wonderful advocate for Planet Water. Really appreciate Lizzi's wisdom and pragmatism, and how she speaks of the increasing nuance in her coaching work; feels like she swims in integrity.
we definitely need to bring in laughter as a core ICF/EMCC coaching competency!. Thank you Chris. Love the clearing..and the 'embryonic performance'..what a phrase! arguably we are collectively giving that. Is the earth yelling at us to 'give birth won't you'!!
so grateful to have met Christiane on my own path. She oozes credibility, creativity and compassion. I still remember when we first met and how she first mirrored me on a vision quest. And her True Nature Coaching programme still has ripple effects in content and community. And friendship.
This is wonderful to read. We love how the outdoor coaching network and community grows and expands with paths crossing and friendships being made :-D
a humble and inspirational man of the earth. so much respect for all the various ways he is helping to rewild land and souls. "awakening that indigenous soul that is within all of us". and his "there is no time for self doubt".
We couldn't agree with you more Penelope and we were so happy to have Robin as a guest. The work he does in Africa with the San Bushpeople is so inspiring, as is the work he's doing in Dartmoor...just a truly inspiring guy all round!
I would say that feng shui might have some information that applies to different components like ideal lighting, colors in the environment, the forces of nature and the clients physical constitution may be conducive for coaching in different settings.
Thanks for another lovely comment Andrejka. We will be featuring podcasts looking at Biophilia, which has a similar concept to feng shui, in future episodes. It looks at the innate need we have as humans to connect with nature and how we can bring the outdoors indoors to maximise the powerful benefits of nature if we can't actually step outdoors. I hope you're enjoying the podcasts?
Thank you for your inspiring podcast. Can I ask what microphones you used that did not pick up the gusts of wind? The sound quality was excellent and there was clearly a lot of wind blowing. Do you use any type of ferrus bead on your device to reduce the impact of wifi electromagnetic exposure being on the headset for hours? When further away from a transmitter the indicator bars on the cell phone are low that means the device pushes out a stronger signal which can be hard on the body.
Thanks for your comment. On this podcast we're just using our headphones directly into our laptops. But for all other podcasts I'm using a Yanmai Professional USB condenser microphone. It has a noise reduction condenser and was a really good price.
Love the outdoors. Wow, I love these topics. I’m glad I found this podcast! I’ll try to stay tuned for the next one. Keep up the great work, I just uploaded a podcast new episode on my channel too!
Thanks ladies. It’s nice to see outdoor coaching being promoted. I do quite a lot of outdoor coaching and supervision both in person and virtually. It’s great.
