    Gotta be honest with you, I had to listen to this video in parts because I was not able to sit through the whole thing in one go. What you said about discipline hit home but in a different way: My parents didn't "Let me quit", they used it against me and blamed me for it. They didn't teach me discipline, they taught me that I was a bad human for wanting to quit and start something else that was interesting to me at the time. I had to "earn" their support about the new thing, then they would blame me for not following through ,and the cycle repeated until I was 18 and was able to leave. I'm so intrigued by the colour blocks you have behind you, what are those? Is it a calendar? Could you talk more about if and how you communicated your needs and expectations to your support system? I've been struggling with building mine because I don't have contact with my family (By choice, I tried to have a relationship with them for a decade after turning 18 and it just didn't work out) and I struggle to see people in person or make friends =/ My support system is my partner & 2 friends of mine 😅

    • @systemsforadhd
      @systemsforadhd 4 месяца назад

      Hi, sorry I didn't see this sooner! I am so sorry about your parents, that is very unfortunate and must have been so difficult. I wish you are able to find peace today in a better environment. The color blocks are a calendar, it's called The Big A## Calendar, by Jesse Itzler (an ADHD individual). I really love it for visual planning between my husband and I, it keeps us on the same page about things. I would love to make a video about this, but please know that your support system now really does sound wonderful. It does not have to be large to be powerful, and having a small group of people who really care about you is so valuable. I do have a Discord server if you are looking for online friends, it is a wonderful place filled with other ADHD and Autistic people. I will do my best to fill your question into an upcoming video, but I would say in the meantime come up with systems, code words, and know it's okay to have hard convos over text/IM. Saying needs is difficult, do whatever you need to make it easier, even if that is texting, or having code words that mean you need certain things. I hope that helps a little!

Thank you for sharing the A## calendar, I'll check it out <3 And lastly, I did join Discord some time ago and you helped me with a question regarding recurring tasks 😁 There's great people in the channel, I'm just not used to use Discord as much.
