Quilting on the Side: Tracking KPIs for business growth
There is always more to learn. No matter how much you know, there’s always more to learn. Learning is a lifelong adventure. With quilting it’s a lifelong fun adventure, however you decide to take it, as a leisure activity or into a business.
Quilting does have something for everyone! Learn something new every day. ;-)
Thank you for this episode. Great tips and advice for business, quilting, and life: be yourself, don’t be afraid to try new things, and things take time.
Thanks for listening! Kaye shared so much wisdom!
Great interview. Thank you Kaye, and Andi and Tori!
I'm so glad you enjoyed our chat! Besides longarm quilting and teaching, what topics would you like to learn about?
Enjoyed learning your background Kaye. I think you will be one of the teachers at Hand Quilter Academy so I hope to meet you there.
Kaye does alot of events with Handi Quilter. Have fun if/when you see her in person!
I am excited to meet you!
Thank you for interviewing Kaye who is so inspirational to beginner longarmers and quilters. I’ve really enjoyed hearing about her journey.
We are certainly big fans of Kaye! Who else should we have on the show?
So glad I was able to catch this! Very informative and insightful!
Glad you found it useful! Thanks for watching.
Very nice!
We appreciate you listening!
That was great. Learned some new things. Great show!!
Thanks for joining us! We have more spectacular guests coming up in Season 4 , please stay tuned.
This episode is a real winner!
I agree, Kaye is doing fabulous things!
@ it’s one I will definitely watch again, and again.

Oh darn, one of the limitations of Discord is that the links are only live for a short time. Please email Andi (info@truebluequilts.com) and we can get you set up!
I’m Really looking forward to the audacious retreat!! 🎉
The whole week of QuiltCon is going to be so fun! I love hanging out in person with the quilting community :-)
I love you two! Good content and great timing! ❤❤. Tori……if you need a one handed sewing lesson, let me know.
I definitely will! 😂
This is a great discussion. Thank you!
Great tips! Thanks! Especially during this transitional period for me. ❤️
Glad this was helpful!
I am quite dismayed that my own daughter absolutely refuses to ‘sew’ and always brings alterations to me , likewise my granddaughter can’t sew or refuses to learn to sew, here in the U.K. I don’t think it is taught anymore in schools.
That’s okay. Everyone has their own interests. Maybe some day they will want to learn about it.
❤
Hi Annette! Hope you're doing well.
@ swelling going down. Will know more at 1st post-op visit Wednesday.
Hello from Qaqortoq, Greenland! I enjoyed watching your interview with Sean (The Guy Who Sews). Sean has been such an inspiration to many of us. He's a great mentor who has helped me navigate my RUclips experience. I still go to him when I get stuck on something and he helps me work through it. :) :) Have a great day!
Sean is a treasure! Thanks for watching.
Loved this podcast with Sean! Bravo! I start my Saturdays with Sean each week, even when I’m traveling. Thank you Andi and Tori, you’re the best!
Sean's Brekkie episodes are a great start to the weekend! Thanks for watching.
I love watching Sean on Saturday mornings! My Saturdays are complete without him.
We feel the same way! So fun to chat with Sean. Thanks for watching.
You two are amazing! ❤
Thanks so much! We are so appreciative of our listeners (and watchers)!!!
I loved this episode! I feel you on the military life. Both my husband and I are active duty and I’m trying to run a quilting business. It’s a challenge 😂
Thank you! The military life really adds some spice to the entrepreneur experience 😂
You’ve presented the 2 extremes… I hope my first launch falls somewhere in between! Thanks for sharing, Andi! My daughter has a business and her coach told her “People do not think about your business as much as you do. If you get sick of having to say it, keep saying it" 😀
That is great advice! You need to be tired of talking about your offers.
I commented too soon! I thought the episode ended but it was just the intermission😂! Thank you so much Andi for sharing your experience as well. Going into my first pattern launch hopefully next month, I’m already bracing myself for impact with my small audience. But don’t want to wait until the time is “perfect”. Your positivity is inspiring. And now I’m thinking about the 7 touch points and will start thinking about what I’ll post on social media. Very helpful! Also liked the tip from Tori on the one week a month to focus on building the email list!
Those are good takeaways. Glad you enjoyed this episode.
The quilt is beautiful! Congrats on a successful launch! In the future, I’d love to know tips from your guests on building their email lists, esp when just starting, if they are comfortable sharing. Thanks for another informative episode!
Thanks Tasha! We will put email list building on the schedule for a deep dive episode.
Your sound went out
I am a 70 year old woman who wants to get my business off the ground. I have 25 quilt tops and I don't have longarm . I want one so bad and don't have the funds to get one.. I feel I can't pay any one to do that work. So how can I find a way to get a machine..
Time to get creative! Research business grants from your local Small Business Administration to fund the purchase of a machine. Barter for time on a machine at a local shop or with another longarmer? Maybe you could do the binding while someone else quilts? And many guilds have longarms that their members can use. We hope you find a way to take action!
Isn’t it interesting how our children can inspire us to be brave? My daughter starting her own her business gave me the courage to start my side hustle in preparation for retirement. I had always wanted to own a business but my career has been very lucrative so I never gave it a chance. And now, I have the chance to invest in my entrepreneurial self. And, I’m a numbers geek in my work life (I’m a statistical analyst) so the data and analytics are one of my favorite things about RUclips!
So glad you are pursuing your dreams!
Hi Andi and Tori! Thank you for sharing your insights about business and strategies for new quilting entrepreneurs. I listen to your podcast thru Spotify here in Japan, and just found your YoutTube channel. I love how raw, realistic and honest you are about your journeys. Keep it up.
Thanks for tuning in! Being a host is a dream job...we get the front row to hear all of these fantastic stories. We love this international community of quilters.
I'm a 76 yo quilter with no interest in setting up a business, but saw Kris's FB posting of the interview. I enjoy her teaching methods, her "real-ness" and wanted to watch. Thank you for giving me a view into the business side of a favorite on-line quilter.
Thanks for listening! Even if you aren't a business owner, it's fun to hear more about our favorite people. Happy quilting!
Thank you so much! ❤
Fabulous interview! I thoroughly enjoyed the conversation. I would love to know more about the courses you took for pattern writing. And suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
There are several places to learn pattern writing. Elizabeth Chappell from Quilter's Candy is probably the most well-known. I'll gather resources and write a blog post ASAP!
Thank you so much for having me on your show! This was so much fun. You both are great!
I, too, dislike mystery quilts! BTW, as an older quilter I love You-Tube, Pintrest and FaceBook. Never use X and don't like Instagram, but will occasionally go to the site just to see what the fuss is about.
Thank you for joining us Kris!
Thanks for joining us here Linda!
I love Beth Ann!
She is a ray of light in this world. Thanks for listening!
Thank you so much for having me as a guest.
Always a pleasure to chat with you Becky!
Loved the discussion around the tech tools this episode - Later and CapCut. Thanks for sharing your journey Becky, I’m looking forward to trying your EPP stickers!
You are welcome. Can't wait to hear how you like the EPP stickers.
Scheduling makes social media soooo much easier! Thanks for listening.
Thank you so much Andi and Tori! What a wonderful experience… you’re the best hosts! 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻
Can't wait to hear more about your travel adventures!
Great podcast, lots of good ideas to think about and action.
Glad we gave you some useful information! Thanks for listening.
Thrilled to find you on you! Been listening on podcasts, love the visual!
Thanks so much! We are busy behind the scenes getting the second half of Season 1 ready 🎉
I want a UFO hat now!! Lol
Thank you for sharing your story. I think it’s funny that you’re encouraging the Door Dash person to leave their “stable” job, yet you are both sticking to your “real jobs” until further notice. It’s scary. I should know. I quit teaching 10 years ago to quilt full-time and I think back about all the time I wasted working for somebody else instead of myself. So glad I made the plunge, and somehow, we make it though each month with the lights still on and the fridge stocked.
True, quilting is a "side gig" for us both but we are working hard to transition to full time! Glad you found a way to make your dreams come true also.
What a great idea 🎉
Thank you! 😊 Watch for our next episode on Tuesday!
Thanks for the detailed explanation.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks, Tori and Andi, for sharing your stories.❤
Thanks for watching!
