I leave my amaryllis in their pots to grow leaves after they are done blooming. In the spring I plant them in the garden or a flowerbed. I prefer that to leaving them in pots outside - one less watering job! I dig them in the fall and store them in a brown paper sack in a dark basement cupboard. I have cut off the foliage. I take them back when they start growing. Some will bloom, some have not. It all depends on how big the bulb got to be.

Personally I'm not a fan of marigolds, but I do love calendula which has a solar look and color. Especially the fancy calendula varieties. Maybe give those a try?

It was really hard to hear you while at the nursery. Maybe you need a microphone? And, the background music made it even harder to hear. Yes, I love plant shopping. I just need to learn to window shop and not feel like I need to buy them all. 😀

Marigold foliage smells awful. The blooms smell sweet and I like them. The refreshed planters turned out so pretty! ❤❤❤

Hi.. have you tried Blue Lake pole beans? They are stringless and prolific. I simmer tomatoes, strain out the seeds and skins and freeze in ice cube trays and then freezer bags. Also, we love Gazpacho (cold soup) to use up tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, onion and garlic. New York Times has a great recipe.

Have you heard of garlic pucks? I saw it on Acre Homestead where she peels garlic cloves, puts them in a food processor, then scoops out (2 tablespoon sizes) using cookie scoop onto a cookie sheet. She freezes the pucks, then puts those in a ziploc bag in the freezer. I will be trying it. 😊

You can make true pickles, no canning involved, make up some water bath relish with cucumbers or tzatziki sauce, or make cucumber ice cubes with mint leaves for drinking in winter.

Beautiful harvest... I am amazed your squashes came out so clean. Mine get all kinds of surface damaged by raccoons, or who knows what. That is why when the fruits are forming, I have to wrap them in onion bags, or some mesh bags. Most of the damages are not severe, just not pretty to look at. I also did the clean up yesterday, filling up 5 bags of leaves, etc. Your rollilng them up like burrito is a great idea. I also freeze tomatoes like you. The only problem is they wouldn't be nice in raw salad dish, but good for soups and tomato chutney or sauce. Very simple and you can put them in the pantry, not necessarily in the fridge. Much healthier because of all the probiotcs.

It looks like crane fly damage in your lawn. I live near you and it's a common issue in our area. It can be treated.

What if its still mild during the day here in New England in September, even in a dark closet that pretty much stays the temperature as outside. Can you wait past September to bring it in if its still mild out?

By no yousay it's hot , aren't you in the Eugene area? I've never seen it anywhere near hot in Eugene... I pass thru there and back on my way to Hermiston and its always cool or cold.

I'm going to try it today with my two plants today. I took them out of dormant stage about 2 months ago and did nothing to them. Left in same pot, put outside, & all I've gotten is long leaves. Hopefully with your guidance it will work. I'll put in paper bags today and bring them out of the cool place and pot in soil the first of December. Thanks for your info

The scavenged weed you picked is called mugwort. It's part of the artemisia family.

Beautiful! Back in the day I made many wreaths. Grew flowers to dry, and made wreath forms from red twig dogwood, honeysuckle. Anything that would form that wreath shape. 🍁

Peas, tomato, sweet peas, tomatillos, marigolds, zinnia, nasturtiums. From an old garden book I learned how to harvest hydrangeas. Cut your blooms when they are “the shade of jade you like.” Now a little garden venting……I over planted my garden this year, and now I am feeling overwhelmed by it’s productivity. What do you do when you have been gardening for forty years and you still have a strong gardening bug? I do have plans to use what I have and to share, whether they want it or not!☺️💕 another tip….if you have a problem sharing and using your garden produce, do not think you are wasting if you toss it in your compost! It’s going back into your garden in the spring. I also enjoy the the no till no dig idea. I can get out to the garden as early as possible. Southwest Washington state.
