With the sewage treatment plant being down during the hurricane and all of those newer higher developments surrounding this community still using water kept raising the sewage at the treatment plant. This community became the overflow for the sewage treatment plant.

This is a great report. This man did a fantastic job. The problem with flooding in these never before flooded areas is all the new growth and poor planning that Florida has absorbed. They build on land that used to be a sponge. That sponge naturally absorbs this water. Builders dug out the sponge, covered the area with clay and hard pack, then built on top of it. Any water that then falls on this once spongy land runs off somewhere as it can no longer drip into the earth like nature designed. I'm experiencing the same thing in Zephyrhills. Been here 40 years. 1998 El Nino caused flooding. 2004 back to back T/S and Hurricanes caused some flooding. 2021-today, thousands of homes built around me and now we flood if we get more than 4 inches in a week. Government doesn't care, they get tax revenue from the new home owners and business.

The city did something. And the people need to investigate. Surely there's a whistle blower that will step up.

The government allows public and private facilities to dump wastewater before, during and after storms. The phosphate mines take full advantage of this as well and they all save a ton of money with this practice. All of the surrounding counties experienced the same and Manatee County was still releasing wastewater as of a couple days ago. The same happened during Ian and there is definitely more to this story. Great reporting and proper job Zach!

IMO - This is similar to what occurred in the Houston area during 2017''s Hurricane Harvey. For the first time attention was directed to the major flood plain issues due to all of the recent land development accompanied by few zoning rules: more cement means less open fields. Because the water affected expensive city real estate, along with neighboring subdivisions, media suddenly focused on the devastation. Before then few people cared if it flooded south of Interstate Highway I-10. FYI - prior to 2017a long cherished myth circulated stating that ground north of I-10 was magically safe, so property owners were not required to carry flood insurance.

There's a new subdivision going in right behind our house. For whatever reason they decided they needed to raise the ground level by 4 feet for the entirety of the complex, we've never had flooding and our entire yard was flooded from that same storm and we're up in Jacksonville. It was quite surprising.

So having lived in Sarasota in the early 90's and in Clearwater Beach in early 2k's. I can definitely say that Florida heat is something your body will need to adapt to. But trust me, it will over time. A great way to accelerate your body's acclimation is to routinely get in the water at the beach. The high salinity of the ocean will clean out your skins pores enabling your skin to better breath and sweat. And that salt will also make your skin tan easier. Just beware that your skin will become VERY tactile. meaning, with the oils removed it will feel VERY clingy. In the beginning you will sweat like a fire hydrant, not to mention you will loose a ton of water weight, which is great!!!! so consider all that sweating as a workout without actually working out, of sorts. And if you hail from other states especially cold ones you may be unaware that your body has adapted itself to that regions vast climate changes, especially for the colder months. It does it's best to maintain heat, so in the winter months your body burns off fat just to keep your body warm. And what sweat does happen instantly evaporates before it even makes itself noticed. but.. as such the buildup up of skin oils is common so you don't dry out in the winter. Makes for bacteria prevention in the hotter months as well. But Florida dictates a body that is the polar opposite. The flesh needs to breath, to deliver oxygen to your blood and cool your blood throughout regions of your body and and to get rid of those oils. The salt in the air is said to thin out your blood. All I know is that initially I was a sweaty cow. But years later I was driving top down in my convertible with black leather seats, and though the surfaces were scorching to the touch, I was no longer sweating like crazy, not even during my 4 mile daily walks to and from work and home. Here's a perfect example... What is he wearing? A sweater AND a t shirt beneath!!??? Now if that's not proof what is.

You need to look into stonebridge 3 inside of palmer ranch. They removed a ton of wetlands in the neighborhood for new construction right in the middle of stonebridge

Good video. When I came here I noticed that phillippi Creek was totally overbuilt with no riperian buffer zone. No surprise it flooded. It will flood again unless they remove houses near the creek.

It's like that Treatment plant used Laurel Meadows as their own personal emergency flood Gate to dispose and store the excessive water during their so called 100 yr flood to keep all of the other neighborhoods high and dry! Something stinks about all of this ! No pun intended !

Look at the land elevations in this neighborhood on Google Earth. If you are 17 miles away from the Gulf and your property is only 24-28 feet above sea level, like what Google Earth says this neighborhood is, what on earth makes you think that the drainage could possibly handle monsoon level rains?

It is going to be at least $200,000 per home to mitigate the damage. It is time to change the codes to require homes to be on a raised foundation. We get the flooding issues from other developments but had the houses been raised from the outset, the would have only had flooding in the garages. Tragic as many won't recover financially. well those new neighbor hoods where all built in farm land /swamp land marsh land .drained built on... zones . actually . im 51 lived here my whole life .as a kid we drove our mud trucks in laurel medows and hunted gators there
