What inspired your embroidery this time? Did you use any special techniques in this piece? An: Yes, you’re right to bring this up. Eucalyptus has a very unique feature-a faint bluish-silver sheen all over it. Its flowers, to capture that burst-like detail, are stitched with thousands of straight, fine lines. This way, I could represent the spray-like look of its blossoms. Assistant: Wow, stitching eucalyptus fruit and flowers must look stunning! Eucalyptus is already such a distinctive plant, and its natural peacefulness must blend beautifully with the church theme. Capturing its intricate features in embroidery, like the petal layers and shapes of the fruits, must have been challenging. Did it take you much effort to bring out the texture? Or did you consider any special color combinations to highlight its silvery tones? An: Yes, it really is quite demanding. For others, it might not seem like a big issue, but for me, personally, it’s a challenge because my eyesight isn’t great. I have both presbyopia and nearsightedness, plus some neck problems. So doing embroidery for long periods and aiming for perfection to capture all the details I imagine is a real test of my vision and stamina. That’s why I invented a new embroidery method to save time, thread, and most importantly, protect my eyesight. I start by creating horizontal and vertical grid lines and then weave directly on the surface to create the desired color patches. This approach is much more efficient than piercing the fabric stitch by stitch. It’s my own invention, and I’m very proud of it. Assistant: Wow, An, your creativity is so impressive!
