Really cool to see a piece of history like this explained by the person who literally used it in Delta Force. These mesh vests are interesting tactical gear and are under rated for what they are especially when tailored to the user's needs.

Just curious did every Delta operator wore the modified M65 jacket during the operation or or are there operators that did not wear it as there’s a photo of an operator wearing just the pilot survival vest and webbing gear

Always been curious about the details of what these brave men were using while reading the book written by Late Col. Beckwith almost 40 yrs ago. Thank you very much.

Some of these mods remind me of what the US Paratroopers in WWII did to their HBT's and M-43's to make them more akin to the original M-42 Jump Uniforms that were phased out mid-war. Cargo pockets, rigging, reinforcements at the elbow/knee, and pocket stabilization were all regular improvements made to the uniforms that were issued to those special soldiers; I wonder if that level of resourcefulness wasn't handed down to the next generation of operators in Eagle Claw.

This is one good thing about Molle in that it lets you move stuff around as long as there is webbing.

Even @ The Onset of Operation Eagle Claw, The Then Newly Formed 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta ( Airborne) ( 1st SFOD-D (A)) Were Truly Innovative When It Came To Weapons and Equipment Used By Their Operators Back Then.

That's all really cool. Just goes to show the amount of time and thought put into the personal equipment, for one mission. I agree, with the one comment, this stuff should be in a museum. I mean the original equipment and field jackets.

I am thankful too for the men that served in this risky operation. The gross incompetence of those in charge is more apparant each time I read about Eagle Claw.

I’m speechless after hearing how this man found the will to live. I’m thankful for all who served and sacrificed on this mission.

I love hearing the old school IP's stories, it never gets old.

Both the Operation Ivory Coast (Son Tay Raid) and Operation Eagle Claw (Tehran) both trained up on the same areas of Eglin Air Force Base, out at Duke Field and other outlying air fields. Even the MH-130 JATO experiments (Operation Credible Sport-they were to land and take off from the soccer stadium) were done here, too.

Detachment "A" out of Berlin had Operators already on the ground in Tehran and outside the city at Desert 2 when the accident happened at Desert 1.

Pants look like the old Wrangler Wrancher Pants in flex weave polyester.

I have a family member that served in the Air Force and he was somehow involved in the operation Egeal Claw. He was over there when it was going on but I'm not sure what his involvement was.

SGM Hanson is a national hero as well as all who attempted the hostage rescue. IMHO it was not a failure, because of lessons learned, gave birth to our modern JSOC.
