Recording The Jet Band near Amsterdam
Fun music stuff again…
It’s great to work in a studio with very good gear and with really nice people who get the best out of it, and out of the musicians :-)
Had a great time and looking forward to mixing it!
P.S. If you look closely you’ll see that Fender Buck Owens Kingman guitar appearing in this :-)

What am I Gonna Do with the Fender Buck Owens Kingman guitar. I recently heard this Chris Stapleton song and had to make something of it. So here’s my interpretation.

It finally arrived! A fast recording made direct to the iPhone gives my first impressions of this new guitar. I’ll be recording songs with this through a better mic soon as the one in the phone doesn’t really do it justice. I checked on the Fender site about those pickup controls. The front one is to blend of the two different pickups. This effectively worked for me as a kind of tone control an...

Eddie and I finally met up again with guitars. And cool ones at that! We both have Gretsch Rancher Bigsby guitars and had to have them together for a while. After singing a few songs at this great pancake place 'Golf van Bergen' near the beach we moved to the bar of the Victoria Hotel and did some more songs there. It was great to see Eddie and Gaby and just enjoy the company :-)

Thought I’d let you know how I’m getting on after switching from IT to music as a job. And included an old song from John Michael Talbot. It’s recorded in Scargill chapel. Hadn’t sung here for a very long time. I used to be on community there. If you can, go to the Dales!

I finally got round to putting new strings on my oldest guitar. I needed to play something to get everything settled and thought of this. Thanks to the amazing Ralph McTell for the song. I sometimes drop in other city or town names as it’s such a universal and timeless story. Life can be tough. Make it better for someone else if you can.

Do they describe the colour as butterscotch?
The shop lists it as blonde while on the Jet site it’s listed at beige. The one I got seemed quite yellow though.
Haha!! Your story brought back so many memories - especially the old "hamdbag" style vinyl cover LOL. I'm sure I had one of them! Plus all. The second hand shops - so relatable... I just don't remember seeing copy Telecasters though - it was always Strats or Les Paul's!! Just bought a JT300 and reviewed a few on my channel actually - and bought a sea foam green JS 300 for my daughter. Unbelievable guitars for the money!! Cool video matey!
Glad you liked it :-) And now I’m off to check out your video’s! Have a good Christmas.
@@ColinLPrice haha - cheers Colin! Have a great Christmas yourself!
@@MarkFeaGuitargreat channel! So much to look through :-) VERY impressed with your playing too. Much better than me. That smooth bending then adding vibrato like it’s easy… but it’s not :-)
@ColinLPrice haha cheers mate. Thanks for checking it out and your kind words!
Very good tune. I like that piano in the background. Merry Christmas buddy.
Thank you. Have a good Christmas and see you in the new year :-) I’ve got to admit I ‘borrowed’ the backing track. I’m not that good on piano.
Just got my hands on the JA 25th anniversary edition in metallic firemist. Harley Benton is one of the few guitar manufacturers that pays attention to Lefty guitarists.
Hi Colin from Australia I've got myself one on order it should get here just after Christmas Just wondering how is it holding up Thanks David ☺️🇭🇲👍
I’m loving it. I’ve only used it at home and a couple of times in studio recordings, not live yet. But I’m very happy with the playability and the sound. I’ve seen the comments from others who were less happy, so I hope you get a good one :-) I’ve leant it to a couple of people to try and they thought it just looked odd, played fine but they couldn’t get over the crazy styling. I like that it’s a bit different is it’s own thing.
Let us know what you think of it when it arrives!
@ColinLPrice Yes people we have our own likes and dislikes for me and it sounds like for you too Colin that we like unusual things that are different Yes that's right just hope I get a good one Have a great Christmas Colin thumbs up from Australia 🦘
Great job Colin. I would love to hear you cover Ryan Adams song Lucky Now. Of course with that beautiful acoustic you have there. Thanks for sharing and have a great day !!!
£35 was the cost of my first electric - in 1978 - a used, made in Japan Les Paul copy. Stripped the paint off it too! 👍
We had lots of smart ideas when we were younger :-)
This is perfect for someone like me, beginner, on a budget and love the looks of this Harley Benton
Mine doesn’t play well at all. The finish on the neck is so thick and glossy it makes it feel terrible. If I had bought it to PLAY, rather than as a collectible…it would be going back toot sweet.
I guess mine will be the same as yours but I don't experience it the same way in terms of playability. The neck feels different to a more matte finish for sure, but it works for me with my way of playing.
I sent mine back. The frets were uneven. It buzzed on cowboy chords. I really wanted it, but it's Chinese junk 😢😢😢😢
@@13druber wow, that’s bad! I’d have done the same (return it) if mine had been like that. It didn’t look like there had been any inspection after leaving the manufacturing place (eg. finding sandpaper in the guitar should not have happened). But it shouldn’t leave the factory as you received it. I can only say mine is fine. Maybe I was just lucky.
A. Get a professional set up with new extra light D’addario strings B. Get some 000 steel wool and lightly sand the back of the neck with it. C. You’re welcome
@ yeah. I’m gonna scuff up the neck on a guitar I bought as a collectible. Great idea.
Brilliant chanel, right up my street, great video. Have subscribed 👍
Ha ha :-) Glad you like it.
Love the sound of the Epiphone EJ200
Guitar sounds bok but your version of this is awesome 👍
I don't think mandocaster is a good name for it because it has guitar tuning and six pairs of strings.
Great review sir, you just convinced me to go buy one. With it being at the price point I was kind of knowing what I would be getting, still great to see an honest review. Thanks again.
I ordered one of these guitars because of your videos. Love your music. Thanks for sharing.
You’re going to love it! Glad you like the videos. Thanks :-)
Just beautiful. Thank you for sharing this song with us !!!!
The blue headstock looks like a darker blue than the body. Is that true or is it just the video/lighting? Great review by the way!
Its the same blue. Must be my basic camera work. More vids of this guitar on the way. Maybe you’ll see it better.
Thanks!
Thank's for the review
Jealous. Mine says it wont come until February
That’s a long wait! I figured they’d sell fast.
@@ColinLPrice I bought it very early the morning it was announced. Each store must have gotten a very small initial allotment

Only seen Ryan Adams play one these uses it a lot
You sound great! I love this guitar, looking to pick one up
Would see this guitar on American television some 40 to 50 years ago. Buck Owens was a big smile wrapped in serious musical acumen.
"A Pickin & A Grinnin"
The juice ain't worth the squeeze! I would NEVER buy or play a Chinese made guitar...
I bet you have plenty of Chinese parts on all your guitars. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Nice and solid sound, looks great!! Hope you keep it, I would!!😃👍
you could plug the Champ into a speaker box with a highly efficient 12" speaker and gain a whole lot of volume. The speaker in the Champ is nice, but it is the limiting factor. I like the Deluxe, though I haven't tried a ToneMaster myself.
So that’s another good reason to come along some time :-)
I love my tonemasters, Princeton and twin.
I can even be louder than the drummer now :-) Well… maybe not louder but loud enough.
Looks fun Colin, sounds decent, hope it's a keeper for you. Disappointing & surprising that Fender didn't include a booklet / manual covering the specs, strings fitted, pickup system and battery installation, but seems like a worthwhile instrument.
@@steveburrows101 I feel the same!!!! Come on, fender. Make me FEEL like I bought an expensive guitar. A little booklet or at least a postcard saying what it is, what number it is, maybe a little bit about buck…..
I got one straight from fender, no booklet or anything, was shipped in a box with no packing materials at all , the battery was loose banging around inside, I’ve probably bought around 300 guitars online, and this was the worst packed guitar out of all of them.
@@weed491 Same here
Thats one helluva guitar.
It sure is :-)
Mine was delivered today!!! I haven’t had a chance to open it yet!!!
Go do it! You won't regret it.
@ just finally got around to it. I really bought it as more of a collectible because I have the Elvis Clambake too. My battery connector is in a bag that has Velcro on the back to stick it to the inside of the neck heel there.
@@vacantjosh Enjoy!
I just bought mine! I might drive up and pick it up tomorrow!
i got my Firebird 3 weeks ago, partially due to watching this video. It's one of these, made in 2020. It is 2nd hand, but in near mint condition, and man, I'm Loving it so far!! I've always admired the sound, AND the look of these guitars. I could listen to and watch videos of Allan Collins playing his all day... one of the Very Best!! After watching several videos by reviewers I respect, I found a good deal on mine and ordered it from halfway across the country on faith. Are you still happy with The Duesenberg Les Trem ll? I'm also thinking of adding one to the Firebird. Thanks for this review and all your others. I trust your opinion and ALWAYS enjoy your playing and tone! Thank You Much Brother!
I just took the trem off a couple of days ago to put on a different guitar maybe or sell. I kind of think it looks beter without and didn’t really use it that much for what I play on it. Glad you like the video’s :-) More to come soon… new guitar on the way…
@@ColinLPrice Thanks! Looking forward to it!
ty great video
Hi , Colin , I have the Same Celebrity than you and I would like to record it in Cubase , But the Problem is like there is no Battery The Signal is Too Weak , Have you met the problem , and What is the solution, do i Need a Preamp? thanks a lor for Your answer - Kish
Yes, the signal is very low level compared to a guitar with built in preamp, like the modern Ovations. I don’t think I’ve ever recorded the signal direct to a computer but I’m sure I’d need to set the gain to max to make it even near usable. So yes, ideally you need some kind of preamp or clean boost pedal before going into the interface on your computer. To be honest, I think you’d get better sound using a mic and plugging that in to the computer though.
@@ColinLPrice Thanks a lot Colin ! it's very nice from you ! Musically Kish
"Straight up" is the one direction that tail piece bolts are not meant to go. These after market tremolo units do exactly that, and a bit of glue is all that holds them into place. Eventually, those post collar's will let go because they were actually designed to be replaceable! It is a bad design and it doesn't matter what guitar you use them on.
You may well be right about it failing some time in the future. But I moved it to a different guitar about a year ago and it’s holding out fine being used a few times a week at rehearsals and gigs. If and when something fails I’ll let you guys know. This is a follow up video: ruclips.net/video/bjJv5_fkSkc/видео.htmlsi=FIAdaEpKIs5t1HBN
I got one, had a bone nut and saddle and bone pins, next are upgraded to Martin tuner's 😊
Howdy. Your video randomly turned up... That's such a pain. Excessive noise really does my head in! The only idea that comes to my mind is putting an isolator in front of the Lizard. I have the 'Art Dual Transformer Isolator' which i see for online £66. There's a Palmer single 1/4 inch one for £76. Maybe even plugging the wireless reciever into the isolator and then on into your pedals. Be warned!! I'm no expert and it might not make any difference at all! It's the only thing I can think of to try. If you've already got a DI box with a ground lift you could plug your pedals into the DI box and into a mixer or interface (removing the amp) just to test whether or not lifting the ground solves the issue!! Power supply loops: I can't tell if you're daisy-chaining the power cables or not (but don't). You could try running the pedals using batteries to test if it's the power end of things amplifying the RF... I hope you'll post an update if you do any testing etc. Good Luck! (disclaimer: I am a moron!)
Your moronic suggestions all make sense to me :-) Thanks! And all of the things you mention sound like a follow up video I need to make to experiment a bit more. To be continued…
@@ColinLPrice Thanks lol, I really am not an expert, but noise issues drive me mad lol! I've tried using the ART isolator in some situations and it doesn't help at all... Trial and error I guess...
Hi colin, it was so good to meet you. Your Vocal-Tips are Gamechangers. Thank you so much!
You are very welcome! It was wonderful to meet up with you both. I had a great time just hanging out. The Music was lots of fun too! But next time we need to do the Rick Beato style interview seeing as we are both such avid RUclipsrs :-)
Hello Colin. From record is unlear tone characteristic. Which I dont claim. What is bass response (clear its small amp) and what about if I plug some pedals. Does eats pedals well?
You don’t get much low out of this mainly due to the small speaker. But it’s fine as a practice amp or in an ‘almost acoustic’ setting. I’ll be using it in a situation like that tonight. As for pedals, it’s working fine for me when I add a reverb. But I don’t put much more than that in front of it. I’d use a bigger amp usually if I want more effects as they give a fuller sound spectrum.
Nice!
Good info, so one year on, how's the tuning? Did you change to a roller bridge? Graphite nut? New Tuners? Cheers!
Good idea... a 'year later' update. I'll get a video out on that. But in short, the trem has been on a different guitar for quite a long time now. It was working fine on this one but I wanted to try it on my Epi Firebird which I use a lot for gigs. And it stayed there because I like it. So the JA 60 is back to stock and gets used mainly at jam sessions. It's light and its 'different' to what most people bring, both for looks and the sound. On the Firebird with stock tunomatic bridge and standard nut the trem works fine for me. No tuning issues with what I do with it.
Here's the update video on where the trem is now :-) ruclips.net/video/bjJv5_fkSkc/видео.html
@@ColinLPriceThanks and good to see it's still working out on the other guitar, thanks for the info 👍
Thank you for a very interesting video, unboxing and critique - very helpful !
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for posting this! I installed the same trem on a HB-35, and straight away ran into an issue - since the tremelo base is kinda floating above the guitar by 2mm (because the posts that you install into are not flash with the guitar), when I pressed it down too hard it seems to have maybe bend the posts forward a bit. Have you experience something like this?
I didn’t have this problem (and still don’t) but I have only had it on a ‘slab’ type body where the screw/posts can be screwed tight against the body. That was on the HB JA 60 and now still fitted to the Epi Firebird. I also don’t press very hard on it to be honest. Just a little gentle bend sometimes. Did you fit it with the washers? I guess they might be needed on the curved body of the HB-35 ?
Good stuff.
This is really well done nice vocal
Thanks :-)
I feel your pain. I know Fender made a buttercream strat and I was stuck for a while with close but not buttercream. I finally found the one that was the right color, got it from a second hand shop as well but its great.
Can you still fit it in the Harley Benton case, if you have one? Thanks for the tutorial!
It fits in a gig bag no problem. I twist/turn the arm to the back of the guitar.
The middle position sounds like a cheap humbucker pick-up.
Theres less noise with both pickups because the 2 single coils will be wired with one of them in reverse to "buck the hum" like a humbucker does. obviously its not as quiet as a humbucker because they are further apart.
