I missed something. There were four "bad guys." While all the other "bad guys" are dead, there is one person who is obviously quite alive at 4:13. He shoots and kills two Native Americans, a man and a woman, then seems to run off and hide behind a trunk at 4:24. But the only person who emerges is Cyrus, who was shot at the start of this gun battle, and is the only one groaning and the only one who runs off (and is shot). What happened to the one guy who was still alive and firing behind the tree? Did the director edit something out?

I like how the director made sure all the funny-coloured people were killed apart from the kid, who can now be raised by the good white Christian folk. 🙄 God, westerns are tiresome. Even the modern ones where you'd think they'd know better.

This film tries to portray the landowners as being in the wrong. The landowners were right to defend their property-no president or piece of paper should tell someone what they can and can’t do on their land. That’s the true American spirit. Their only fault was being racists, not refusing to allow the burial. Could they have been more compassionate and allowed them to bury their dead on their land? Yes, but compassion isn’t mandatory.

I like that old man in every role he plays. This was a good movie. I would have likely been riding around out there back then given my recent career path. Never forgot that while serving.

Criminingly underrated film, even with it's star cast. It feels like a film Sam Peckinpah would have made in his 70's pomp. Probably along with Gone Girl, it's Rosamund Pike's best performance. Definitely top 10 in Bale's canon of work. You got Wes Studi putting in some great work. Even got a bunch of great character actors in Ben Foster, Jesse Plemons, Stephen Lang and Rory Cochrane putting in some great performances. Also get pre fame Timothee Chalament in a small role. It's a bleak film, probably one of the reasons it's not really talked about. But it's a fantastic film.

Those ranchers had been fighting Indians for their whole lives. Probably saw their own family members killed by them. Then some federal comes along and tells them they have to let some indians bury of their dead on the rancher's land. Don't get it twisted. There was a reason both sides hated each other. Both sides knew the other side well. Both sides had brutal losses to deal with, you just never really hear about the Rancher's side of it. Now there are 4 wives with no husbands,4 sets of kids with no fathers because some beat down federal wanted to act expunge his guilt. Hollywood is crap.
