PC Kohaku vs Aluminum Kohaku: Back to Back Sound Tests!
At Scooped Bar, we strive to be consistent in our sound comparisons. Ever since the release of the PC Kohaku, I’ve been curious about the difference between the aluminum and polycarbonate versions.
Thanks to our friend @plippskbd, I finally got my hands on one! Both are built with the same switches (Cherry MX Blacks, lubed and filmed), same plate, and same PCB. The PC Kohaku features a stainless steel weight, while the aluminum Kohaku has a copper weight.

I was really tempted to give this a go but in the end decided to hold off as I'm already waiting on 2 boards. Really nice looking board though, if this had gone into GB a little sooner I might have picked one up over the cycle 8.
Honestly both of them have really good characteristics.
@@ScoopedBar It was unfortunate some of the units they sent out sounded really hollow, hope that doesn't hurt the GB.

I got the green coating from the chineese GB and I didn't meet any ping or resonance in my keeb. But I do find that the spec with SS internal cover will produce some ping on any config. Also you could remove the 4 positioning screws that hold the plate, because I found them to produce worse sound and a slight ping as well. I went out of my way to make custom copper cover, copper internal weight and custom halfplate alu and full plate CF. And oh boy it SLAP. Anw great video! I hope you have a wonderful day
They sent me the alu internal battery cover so I will take that off and see if that helps!

I would get the cycle8 personally. Better finish and the ball catch system is better on the Cycle8.

Is it just me or I can't here any ping at all except for the bottom row which would certainly be annoying to type on
I can hear it only on my phone speaker but not so much on my earphones. It’s a very high pitched ping that sounds like you flicked a cheap metal fork.
Yea it's the most pronounced on the keys on the edges. On the alphas it's there but not as much.
why are you slamming into the keys? it seems like it wasn't pinging when you were just normally typing?
The ping was definitely there when I was typing normally, that's actually how I discovered it in the first place.
great review! appreciate the transparency! In your experience, how did the SS battery cover with SS internal weights fair against SS battery cover with Brass Internal Weights? Was there any noticeable sound difference? Thanks!
unfortunately I didn't get the brass internal weight. Personally I don't think it will huge difference since the sound is not reflecting off of the internal weight.
I've seen a couple resolutions for the potential spacebar issue from using a different switch for the spacebar to a modified plate and now this. Going to wait to get mine to see if I need to do anything to get it sounding nice, thanks for the honest review.
I honestly really loved how it sounded after the force break. It's very crisp and clean with MX Black on PC.
@@ScoopedBar I'm a tactile enjoyer and I have some bsun hutt's just waiting to be used. Board won't be here for a while though so i'll probably have some more switches to try by the time it arrives.

I would love a 60% or 65% from them!
TKD has said that the Cycle8 is the last Cycle from them. You can see the post on their Cycle8 GB on ZFrontier. I believe their next project is a 75%.

pls don't use Neo70 for testing switches! this keyboard don't have difference sound!
We always talk about how the number pad makes no sense on the right. We don't have it on our keyboards (we prefer layers) but if it were to be, it'd be on the left.
Bowls next keyboard very much address this as well!
Looks great. Numpad on the left, that's genius. And who will make a keyboard with all keys to the left of the Q column and to the right of the P column, moved to the center? Space, Enter, Backspace and Shift should all be thumb keys. Other could best be handled by the index finger.
