I have always preferred this original extended version of this piece to the more familiar shorter version. The longer, searching introduction adds a dimension to the piece which is otherwise lost, as I hear it.

This is one of Mr. Melachrino's finest recordings. The song is so charming and melodic.

Great sound here by the Coldstream Guards Band, under my ex-Bandmaster Major Roger G. Swift, rest in peace Roger your duty is done. Great musician & conductor. Love the way Roger slows the march down towards the end and then adds an accel.

1:45 I'm not sure what a Russian ballet waltz is doing in a French flavoured collection, however they did use French for the title of Waltz of the Flowers so who cares let's enjoy Chacjsfield's great performance.

Stanley Black was a fantastic musician. One of the very best arrangers and orchestrators of all times, brilliant pianist, conductor, composer. Left a huge discography with pop, jazz, Latin American standards and even classics. Alas, some of his recordings for Decca (specially some classic ones) have never been issued on digital format. And the set of CDs issued in 1991/1992 for Sony Japan are completely out of print and never have been released on streaming or digital downloads (those CDs contain a lot of film music and classical works by Samuel Barber, Mozart, Vivaldi, BRahms, among others). Pity.

Was the sports theme on radio 3DB in Melbourne, Australia, for many years. Used also on 3GL, Geelong, and, no doubt many other commercial radio stations of the era.
