This channel features train videos taken in Southern California. Frequent locations for my videos will include: Fullerton, CA; Perris, CA; San Bernadino, CA; Oceanside, CA; Carlsbad, CA; eventually there will be more locations as I continue to make videos. There will be the occasional video that has nothing to do with trains but the general goal is to make quality HD train videos with little to no commentary just endless trains going by.
I have a link and will post the address for it here also for a railfan Facebook page that I have started. It is open to anyone especially those into railfanning and/or model railroading.
New Videos may not appear often, but I will post videos when as I am able to.
Thank you.
Andrew

For those that do not know much about the Orange Empire Railway Museum. It is located in the City of Perris California south of the City of Riverside. The Ventura County #2 that is featured in this video is one of five steam locomotives that the aforementioned museum has in their collection. Of the five the VC #2 is currently their only operating steam locomotive. Video In High Definition Enjoy...

Clip 2 was of a double ended southbound Surfliner, and in the last clip the Engineer gives me a crossing sequence and a wave as the train leaves the station. It was my first time receiving a "horn show" from an engineer. Enjoy! Video in HD

What f59 was trailing in the second clip?
Now that is a hard question for me to answer given this was taken nearly 8 years ago. I do apologize for the unstable camera there I was still learning and figuring out how to take videos like this at the time I made this video.
@@Robotechnology101 bro you're good. My camera work was the same way when I first started railfanning. I just couldn't make out the engine because it was moving so fast
What kinda camera? I'm interested
At the time I took this video I was using a JVC Everio camcorder. It has since been retired after several years of heavy use. I currently have and use a Sony made camcorder though I have been very busy lately and haven't had time to make any new videos. I might get back into making videos again eventually when my life slows down a little.
Thanks man. Hope you find the time to go to CBV, would be cool to railfan with you and others as well
In the US, freight trains are veeeeery loooong! You can smoke a whole package till the bars go up again!
Your title is misleading. The videos of engine 4014 are years old.
I explain in the description that I had computer problems that delayed getting this video finished. The title accurately describes what is shown in this video as well as to what is currently happening now as it is figuratively moving closer to being completed. Last release from UP Steam was that they are projecting for it to be completed and operational by Spring 2019.
4014 is not just being restored, buy completely rebuilt to new standards to be in service for the next 50 years.
Sure is and looking forward to when it returns to California under its own power.
Oh absolutely I would love nothing better to see that 4014 running I still love the Challenger in the 844 or so need to get all three of them going
I hope the same care and dedication goes into restoring the Challenger cuz I really would like to see it be running to
As someone who is involved in rail preservation I agree with you completely. They have indicated in press releases and interviews that 3985 is not a priority at this time but that they do intend to eventually get it operational again. Right now UP 844 and 4014 are the highest priority for the UP Steam program to have operational.
Yes UP 844 is up and running and from the last video update put out by Union Pacific Railroad the 4014 is on schedule for being completed.
Go check out the last few updates they have made. They are already starting to put things together now. Now I could be wrong but from what I am under the understanding of they already have some of the parts made for the burners that will be installed into the firebox of the Big Boy. They released a video a few days ago talking about some of the work they have been doing inside the firebox and boiler.
Weldy Media Productions the oil burner has been built and Ed had it at a show he spoke at like an hour long
I believe I watched the recording of that, I have been very impressed with what they have done so far. I am keeping up with what they are doing because eventually me and some others at the museum I am a volunteer at in California, are hoping to undertake the restoration of a Union Pacific Mikado that the museum obtained back in 1997. It is one of only four surviving UP 2-8-2s and the only one that has any chance of possibly being made operational again.

During summer breaks from college in the late 1960s, I worked the extra board as a main line brakeman on the Penn Central between Toledo and Cleveland, Ohio. One afternoon, our eastbound manifest freight was put in a siding to clear one of the two mains for the westbound RBB&B Circus train. ~ Because of its "antique" rolling stock, the circus train was operating at a restricted 45mph on what was otherwise 60mph-(freight)-limit track. I was startled when I saw the haze of gray smoke that accompanied the entire length of the train. I asked our conductor, who was on the ground with me stretching our legs, if we should signal their passing caboose of one of the dangers for which you inspected passing trains. He chuckled at my newbie enthusiasm and pointed out that the circus train cars were mostly still equipped with journal box axle bearings and that a miasma of smoke was pretty typical for such ancient equipment. ~ Prior to the preponderance of radio communication, hand signals held sway. it was SOP to inspect passing trains and signal their crew with either a "highball" wave or one designating some noted danger or problem. For instance, the "smoke" signal was holding your nose; "locked brakes" was sliding your palms against each other. Immediately following, you'd indicate the location on their train by giving a count from the "head end," tapping your head, or the "tail end," tapping your butt, then finger flashing the number of cars, holding up your hands and opening and closing your fingers rapidly. As trains were often passing one another at high speeds, the signaling had to be very quick to be discernible. These and other elaborate hand signals could look like a strange dance on a rapidly receding caboose platform-like an industrial Macarena. ~ Even though their old equipment had a certain traditional, classic appeal, it's good to see that RBB&B updated their rolling stock. Thanks for the vid.
+Gene Rybarczyk Your welcome and thanks for sharing your story. I volunteer as a trolley motorman and train brakeman/conductor at the Orange Empire Railway Museum which is located in Perris, California. For a large part we have operating equipment that still has the old journal boxes and friction bearings in them which are inspected regularly to make sure there is enough oil inside. If you haven't yet looked at some of my other videos feel free to check them out as some were taken at the museum.
+Weldy Media Productions - I've been browsing; I particularly enjoyed "The OERM on 11/04/2012." Most PC cabooses, during my seasonal tenures, were "bay window" models, without a cupola. Though I got to ride in a couple cupolas, as the perennial new guy, I was generally relegated to head-end duties, the guy who got to climb down from the engine and perform any switching work during our road journeys. Back then, because of union influence, state law required a five man crew: conductor, engineer, fireman, and two brakemen (head man in the engine and flagman in the caboose). Contrary to the straw title, the head man was actually the low man on the train crew totem pole.
Thank you and that is interesting I enjoy learning more history about trains and railroading. The museum has one former Southern Pacific bay window caboose preserved in the collection. The museum www.oerm.org, facebook.com/orangeempirerailwaymuseum/?fref=ts. The museum's website is undergoing updates and improvements so some sections of the site may not be accessible for a while but the facebook page is fairly active. In case you are interested the museum is open 9-5 every day all year except for two days, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Train and trolley rides at the museum generally start at 11:00 and end 4:00/1600.
+Weldy Media Productions - Much as I enjoy old railroad stuff-I was lucky enough to live in a house overlooking the Durango and Silverton tracks one year-my traveling days are over. Here, in Tucson, I'm lucky if I can even hear a train horn on a quiet Sunday morning. Poor, sad, deprived me. Still, I get wide-screen cab rides on trains all over the world, a much better view than a sideways passenger POV, and you even managed to get me up into a cupola, for the first time in close to fifty years. So, in your volunteer work, record those vids that show viewpoints not generally available to most folks, but mostly just enjoy the heck out of it.
***** Due to being busy I haven't for a few years been able to find time to take video of trains but I am glad you liked some of the videos I have taken. One short video I have also is an in-cab video from on board a former Santa Fe FP45 that is at the museum. I may try to get video of it this year if I can as it is expected to possibly return to operational status sometime this year after a 4 year restoration.
UP 942 is now part of a weekly rotation with the other locomotives at the Orange Empire Railway Museum so come and visit and you may very well get a chance to see this locomotive pulling the museums' mainline passenger train.
Enjoyed your video and always look forward to visiting the railroad museum. They have done a great job in restoration of all the rolling stock.
Thanks for the comment and I am glad you liked the video. I have been pretty inactive with making new videos due in part to the fact that I am very busy working at this museum. I primarily volunteer in operations but I am getting involved trying to start a restoration project as well. This E8 A is currently out of service for some mechanical work but is expected to possibly return to service later this year. I am out there almost every weekend so you might see me when you do visit.
Will look you up next time I am out there. Cheers
I like the cab car 2310
Could I get one?
Yes you can although if your asking about the FP45 it is currently undergoing restoration and likely won't be back in service until early 2014. All you have to do to get a cab ride in any of the locomotives is ask at the museum gift shop and pay a fare separate from a regular ticket which allows you to ride in the cars behind the locomotive as well as ride in whatever street cars are out that day.
How did u get a ride?
You can get a ride on it by pay for an extra amount in the museum gift shop. It will be separate from the all day pass to ride in the passenger cars and trolleys that are running on any given weekend.
Good video
Thanks I will be there running trains for the upcoming Fall Tractor Show in October. The building is open free on Saturdays 9 am - 1 pm with exception to times that there is an event that requires paid admission onto the grounds.
Nice video! Good to see a FP45 still operating.
too bad you wont be there saturday!
Thank you for your reply!!! I just think it is so cool my production is Coastertrains and I see the name coaster on the locomotive and cars. That's my railroad. LOL
Thanks, and thank you for subscribing. I do not know how familiar you are with the rail lines in Southern California. In case your not I will share a little info. The Coaster is a local Commuter line that runs along the coast between Oceanside,CA and San Diego,CA it makes regular stops in pretty much every city along the line. I encourage you to check out my other videos if you haven't yet I have some taken at a railway museum that I volunteer at.
I LOVE IT THE TRAIN SAYS COASTER AND I AM COASTER TRAINS GREAT VIDEO
I am hoping for the museum to be able to someday restore their other 2 standard gauge steam locomotives one of which is an old UP Mikado and the other a saddle tank, but for that they need enough people who would want them to be restored along with donations to make it worthwhile. Which is I think is pretty normal for any museum. I mean if a museum has enough people interested in a restoration project of any kind and can get the needed funds to do it then it will be done otherwise it will not.
Cool! That's kind of funny because it was my first steam locomotive to see in person as well. This was also its first weekend back in operation in a little over a year due to it having been disassembled for a complete inspection and receiving any necessary repairs.
VC #2 was the very first steam engine I ever saw running. It was 1987 and I was 13 and my parents and I went to the Railfest and I got to ride in SP and UP cupola cabooses behind #2. I wanted to ride the seats in the cupola, but the competition for them was a little much. #2 sure is a handsome little engine!
Thanks.
They do but I like whats at the OERM a bit more.
thank you.
Great video
They do have great equipment there. Nice video.
Great video! 13:38
Well I will be there both weekends so come by and say hi if you want.
I might be at the antique gas and steam this weekend or next weekend, I do not know which though.
yes I have i think its great that they are finnaly able to do it, I volunteer there so I have kept up with what has been going on somewhat. The last I heard was that the restoration was expected to be completed this November.
have you heard they're restoring the santa fe!!!?? it sucks. Nice video! Nice to see it in its old paint
thanks
the other 2 railfans that were there that day were Enrique Ayala and Fan2la
Ah, interesting. I feel bad for the crewman who had to ride the point and call out car lengths for the entire trip.
It was headed south to hook up to some ballast cars. they were apparently doing some track maintenance work somewhere in the Encinitas La Costa area I cannot remember the exact location but it was down that way.
Nice video! What was the story on the Coaster loco running light?
Cool. well I guess I will see you at the show.
I'm getting a K5LLA tuned to sound like an SD70ACe and hopefully that can come along too
I camp there
Sorry no I did not, I will be there at the June show too. Will you be camping at the museum or just be there during the day? I am usually ariving there at my groups building between 7:30 and 8:20 AM during the show. if your there early yourself come on by I should be there. I am interested in seeing your RS3L set-up.
Yes, the model railroad was awesome! Did you see me carrying around my RS3L train horn? I will be there in June when the next tractor show comes around, hopefully with a golf cart and my RS3L mounted on it.
thanks for noticing, also the reason for the two Amtrak trains being on different tracks was that they passed each other just north of the station I did not get it on video but that was the reason for it.
Nice catches Andrew! That was cool when that Northbound Surfliner was on Track 1, and when the Southbound Surfliner was on Track 2. I wonder why the northbound was on track 1 and why the southbound was on track 2. BTW Poinsettia is spelled wrong.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. Unfortunately from what I have heard it is not run very often due to California environmental agency rules or something along those lines.
Nice to see the FP45 still running, and good gyro light action as well.
