Two generations of Pasco motion carts come together to demonstrate the conservation of momentum - a fun and engaging experiment that inspires a range of open-ended investigations. Use SPARKvue or Capstone to capture and analyze velocity data!
Bouncing Cart

After opening the box of the Arduino Science Kit R3, I found a collection of external devices (loudspeakers, temperature probe & ultrasonic distance/ping-echo time sensor). My first project: a quick measurement of the position of a spring arm-motion cart as it bounces up and down an incline. To my pleasure, a rewarding set of distance-time graphs were captured with the Science Journal app.
Standing Waves with Arduino Sci Kit R3

I thought to test the new Arduino Science Kit R3 by producing standing waves and measuring the distance between adjacent antinodes in a “leaking tube” air column. The external distance sensor and ambient sound sensor are used to simultaneously measure the height or position of descending water in a leaking tube, and the sound intensity. The function generator and speaker, also included with the...
Polarisation of light with the Arduino Science Kit R3

Bringing together different generations of Arduino boards … The Arduino Duemilanove meets the Arduino Science Kit R3 to automatically measure the light intensity transmitted through 2 polaroid filters. The Duemilanove drives a continuously sweeping servo and the R3 kits measures the light intensity. Data is displayed in real-time with the Science Journal app.

This experiment not only provides hands-on experience with an Arduino tool, but it also covers fundamental concepts in physics related to oscillations, resonance, and damping. It's a great way to engage students and learners in a practical application of theoretical knowledge.
Measuring the speed of sound with 3 technologies
Просмотров 44Год назад
Talk delivered at the AAPT 2020 Summer Meeting The author applies 3 different technologies to measure the speed of sound in air: a. Pasco motion sensor with Capstone software; b. Arduino board with ultrasonic distance sensor; c. Phyphox, sonar-timing, smart phone app. Each technique offers a particular learning challenge and experience with a common outcome. With the different technologies, the...
The Arduino-Conical Pendulum

Students creatively combining STEM and Physics practical skills to produce an automated device to detect polarized light. All made possible with the Arduino Science Journal app-brightness sensor, a polarizer, motor and computer screen. It is an opportunity to reinterpret traditional lab techniques with future technologies to discover and define a new way of approaching experimental sciences.
