My friend Janice. Great person. Great professional.
Your a dumbass don't know nothing about horses at all. All you do is put them in pain with your big bit and hard hands.
Hello Janice. I believe that the horse which you cantered in this video has a bahit of dropping his head down while being exercised. If I am right, can you tell me how to stay balanced. When I rode a horse in local riding schools, she all of a sudden dropped her head bringing me onto her neck and bucked.
Yes. You are right. She is heavy on her forehand in this video. What happened to you in that local riding school was that the horse's hind end was getting sore from you trying to rebalance her energy to the rear. Her muscles back there got tired and she was unable to sustain the frame in which you had her, so she had to stretch her back to relieve her sore back muscles so she dropped her head down, which felt good to her - to relieve her aching muscles, and then she bucked, to further relieve her pain/sore muscles. It is just as if you were carrying a load and got tired. You would have to rest before you went on. It is the same for horses when we ride them. When they are asked to conform to a new frame, their muscles get tired because they are not used to holding their body in that frame, just as you would if someone had you hold your arm straight out and had you walk around like that for 45 minutes. You would be crying just to drop your arm down, to relieve the pain. Horses feel the same way, but they cannot talk so your horse did the only thing she could do to relieve her pain. She thrust her head down and bucked to relieve her back pain. It's very simple if you try to look at it from their point of view, and not blame the horse for being disobedient. Horses are honest. We are the ones who need to look at them to see what they are trying to tell us. Thank you for your question. Hope that helps you to understand your horse better!
Also, to get a horse off the forehand, you have to do half-halts or checks. You are going along and then you ask the horse to rebalance briefly. You may have to do this every step until the horse learns, and gets fit, to carry itself without hanging on your hands for support. Half-halts are the answer. :-)
@@JaniceLBlake Thank you for answering. Good day !!
Hi Janice, I'm Rohit from INDIA. To become a thoroughbred groom in your country, should I join a groom school and get certified?
Hello Janice. Does exercise riding skills make a candidate a better trainer as per your knowledge?
I would say absolutely. Any extra knowledge about your chosen profession is helpful. It gives the trainer a broader perspective.
Great job...love this sport with passion.🏇🏇🏇
We love seeing you ride.
Thank you. I love horses and I love to ride! :-)
Where can I get any poppers or fiber glass rods?
You can try Whips International. His name is Jimmy and his number is: 856-488-5456. If he can't get you any, I'm sure he knows someone who can. Good luck! I'll also check with someone on the track to see who's making whips now.

The horse don't like that tack
It's not so much the tack, as to how it is being applied. It's too fast, and there's no attention given to how the horse is reacting to being saddled. The tack is just thrown on as quickly as possible so the groom can get the horse to the track. Then he can clean her stall when she's out of the stall, and by the time she gets back, he'll give her a bath. (As you can see, I try to take the saddle and put it down gently on the horse's back, but the groom takes it and pulls the girth up tightly the first pull. It's so difficult to witness how the horses are mishandled, and not be able to say anything about it. If I do say something, then I"m wrong, and I'm the bad guy, and I'm trying to tell the trainer how to train his horse.) It's all about 'getting done' on the race track. Not much time is given to how the horse feels about what is happening to it. Besides, as I said before, I have no say into what equipment the horse uses. I can make a suggestion as the rider, but that is frowned upon by the trainer and groom. As a rider, I am just supposed to get on the horse, no matter what, take it to the track, and bring it back, and then say nothing about how the horse went, if it liked the equipment, if I think the horse has a tooth problem, or ANYTHING else. It's a barbaric, patriarchal system and no input is appreciated from any underlings. And as usual, it's the horse that suffers. The race track needs to come up into the 21st century and get its head out of the sand concerning the horses and other animals there. I know a goat who is imprisoned in its stall 24 hours a day. Never goes outside the stall - EVER. It is so sad. She looks out and cries at me when I walk by because I'm the only one who shows her any kindness. I hate it. I said something to the assistant and he basically told me to mind my own business. So what do I do about that? It's not my goat. It's like watching someone abuse a child. What can you do, really? I pray about it. Thank you for your observation.,
Hi janice. All my horses are getting away from me.What can I do?
Hi Lucky. Thank you for your query. Firstly, set in your mind how fast you want to go, then make a decision you're not going to go any faster than that. Then if you start going too fast, gradually make your way to the outside, acting like you want to pull up. Then when the horse thinks it's going to stop, you ask it to keep going again. Then when you get going too fast again, ease your way back to the outside again and act like you're going to pull up. Just keep doing this all the way around the track, until the horse finally gets the picture that you don't want to run off every day. Whatever happens every day, that's what the horse thinks you want it to do. Use your body weight to help you gain leverage when the horse pulls. Not that you are going to overpower the horse, but using your body weight instead of just your hands and arms pulling will give you more strength. Lean back, try to relax, go in rhythm against the horse's forward movement to help you get control again. Don't just have a steady pull on the reins. Give and take. Give and take. Stay towards the outside of the track. The closer the horses get to the rail, the faster they want to go. It's useful to have in your mind that you want to stay in a controlled gallop, and when it starts getting out of control, you put in your mind that you want to pull up. Once you have a thought in your mind, your body will automatically start doing that. It's funny how the horse is really tough until it's time to pull up, then it pulls up. Why is that? Because you are signaling somehow to the horse that it's time to stop. Just do those same actions when the horse is beginning to go too fast. It's not the bit. It's not the saddle. It's not anything else wrong with the horse. It's you. You are making them run off, with whatever it is you are doing in the saddle. The horses are so kind. They only do what we are telling them. Not for nothing, but if all your horses are running away, out of control, there must be something in your life that is out of control as well. Something to think about. The horses mirror who and what we are inside. Good luck with that. It can be scary to get run off with. If you are getting run off with, put the horse down on the rail and let it go as far as it wants. Keep trying to stop of course, but don'f fight the horse too much. That will just rile them up. The horse will eventually slow down and stop. It's not going to run off forever. Keep your wits about you. Don't let the horse get the better of you. Also, be sure not to run over anyone while you're getting run off with. Yell at the other riders that you are out of control or to get out of the way. A horse running out of control can be very dangerous.
That grey horse don't like that bit you should try I different bit
I agree. I have no control over the bit used. That was the only day I got on her ever. Even if I did make a suggestion like that, the trainer doesn't want to hear it. Basically, it's not my job to make a bitting recommendation (All I'm supposed to do is take the horse to the track and shut up about it.). If I do make a suggestion, then they say I'm trying to train the horse, and I think I'm a horse trainer now. You'd think the trainers would appreciate input from a professional rider, but they don't want to hear what you have to say, which is a sad situation. The egos are rampant on the race track and it's a brutal world for horses and riders alike, because of it. Learning new ways of solving a problem are not welcomed. I have been accused of thinking I"m smarter than everyone else because I like to discuss how the horse is going, how it could go better, etc. This may be why the spanish riders are used more now. They come back from the track and say, "Horse go good," and the trainer doesn't have to think about changing any equipment or anything else for that matter. The racetrack is not a flexible place. It has mostly yang energy and needs a lot of spiritual healing work. But if I go around saying that, I'll be laughed out of a job. But, it's true.
@@JaniceLBlake sorry to hear that Janice.
Thanks .

You need to stop abusing horses
I agree. Some of it is.
can i have some jocky gogglse
Sure. Where do you live? Send me an email at janice@janiceLblake.com
Can i get also some goggle...
I don't have any right now. You can ask a jockey when you see one if they have any, or their valets. The valets take care of the jockeys and change their goggles when necessary. Where are you located?
@Elemental Entity Thank you!
Who is the horse?
Janice, you forgot the kitchen sink! ;-)
Exercise riders are the unsung heroes of horse racing. They are usually (and unfairly) forgotten by media when the thoroughbred horse they work every morning wins a common or a classic race. Congratulations to Janice L. Blake and all Exercise Riders around the world for their important job! Greetings from Venezuela.

yes. I appreciate the effort of exercise riders. they start youngsters. exercise them. come back to stable after workouts. feed horses. they literally get tired. working at stables is a hard work job. suitable for people who r passionate about horses. it's my opinion.
I just viewed one of Kip Elser's videos and saw that you also have videos. Nice work.
Thanks, Desnee. 😊
How much do you get paid for doing this?
Usually $20 per horse. Sometimes less, sometimes more.
Excellent video! (Though the background music is a bit distracting). Come see me at Laurel Park next time you're in Maryland!
Awesome video. Your horse seemed still very excited getting back to the barn. Is that normal for most thoroughbreds?
