Feeding birds with suet offers several benefits, especially during the colder months. First, suet provides birds with a highly concentrated source of fat and protein, helping them generate the energy they need to stay warm and active in winter. I am from Dallas. I had planted an autumn blaze maple tree 12 feet in mid Oct and now it is Dec. All leave are now gone where other maple trees and other tree showing good fall colours. The question is there a problem with my specific tree or it is because it is new ? The whole point of this tree is its exceptional colour system.

    Coffee grounds is my go to for growing huge plants. I had grown peppers for a while when i was younger and barely could grow them. The only differences i had when i started planting them again 5 years down the road was the coffee ground. I had dumped all my coffee grounds straight into the yard, so you have good point about having it composted. I wouldnt rely on it if youre needing the nutrition but i would definitely add it to the soil piror to planting or after the season is done in winter. Ive had really good successful gardens with coffee grounds, plus it adds more dirt.

    • @moananursery
      @moananursery Месяц назад

      Corn syrup won't immediately make birds sick but in the long run, it's healthier for the birds to use gelatin, which is an animal protein more in line with their natural diets and less processed than corn syrup.

      As the video explains, coffee grounds and eggshells do contain nutrients that could be beneficial to plants, but it takes far too long for them to break down naturally to be of any real benefit, where a calcium supplement adds instant nourishment. If you prefer to stick with these recycled nutrient sources rather than using a calcium supplement, be sure to fully compost prior to adding to your soil, otherwise the nutrients will be missed.

      Proper care and maintenance will promote a healthy root system, strong trunk, and overall strength & resilience. Autumn Blaze Maples are fast growers, but they still need time to fully establish. Be patient, as it can take a few years for the tree to develop a sturdy root system and trunk. Consistent care and attention to its needs will lead to a stronger, healthier tree in the long run.

    I live in Alaska. A few years ago, we had an early snow. My blazing maples (@15'-20') haden't lost their leaves. Even though we went out and shook the trees off every chance we could, they got busted up pretty bad. One has a split at a crotch. It was cruched to the main branch. Will this heal? If not what is the best way to help it. How do I remove the crutch? I'm thinking I need to prune it and do a slow release over the next couple years? Or do I just need to remove it completly?

    I have had two of these trees that I planted over 10 or 12 years ago. They may have grown a foot over all this time. Ive tried tree fertilizer spikes over the years, etc. I can't get them to grow. Is there such a thing as a dwarf honey locust tree? If so, i got them.😢

    • @moananursery
      @moananursery 5 месяцев назад

      Yes, there are dwarf varieties of honey locust trees! One popular dwarf variety is the Gleditsia triacanthos 'Sunburst', which is also known as the Sunburst Honey Locust. This variety is known for its smaller size, typically reaching a height of about 20-30 feet, which is significantly shorter than the standard honey locust trees that can grow up to 70 feet tall. Another dwarf variety is the Gleditsia triacanthos var. inermis 'Moraine', which is a thornless honey locust that remains more compact compared to its full-sized counterparts. If you do have one of these varieties the height may be restricted by it's genetics. If you can verify it is not one of these smaller/dwarf varieties, we would recommend regular use of a high nitrogen fertilizer. and regular pruning. Best of luck to you!

      Many factors can impact growth rate, temperature/climate, potting, pruning, etc. If you're located here in the Reno area, the late frost we had in may could be impacting the growth, if you have recently repotted, the plant may be focusing on underground growth and you will see top growth again once the roots have settled into the new pot, lack of pruning or over-pruning can also affect growth spurts. For a better diagnosis, send photos of your plant to plantdoctor@moananursery.com, but keep in mind that gardening differs from zone to zone and our Plant Doctors are experts in the High Desert of Reno! Great video! I’m planning to use mine as a nitrogen fixer in my permaculture food forest. I’m interested in propagation and using it as chop and drop around my food trees. From you video I understand that copacing could lead to problems. Could you be more specific on that issue.

    • @moananursery
      @moananursery 8 месяцев назад

      Since Honey Locusts can grow thorns when heavily pruned, coppicing can make these trees a hazard by causing them to grow their thorns. If you're only interested in feeding nitrogen into the soil and don't mind working around the thorns though then coppicing and propagating should work.

    • @moananursery
      @moananursery Год назад

      It may seem like these plants can get spider mites more often than others but this is because they are misunderstood as being a dense shade plant, which they are not. A healthy schefflera will be able to fight off spider mites all on its own. Usually, you can just kill the mites by spraying them off with water (A garden hose, in the shower, or in the sink) and after that you might want to reexamine where it is placed in the house and how much water it is getting. Remember, optimally they like AT LEAST a few hours of direct sunlight, and prefer to dry out a fair amount before being watered again. The less light they have, the less water they'll need, but the higher chances pests will appear. The schefflera have calcium oxalate crystals in the sap, a common plant defense that is toxic to ingest and causes a myriad of stomach and oral issues. It may also irritate eyes. Just don't eat the plant, or get the sap in your eyes and you and your pets will be golden. Thank you for your question! - Plant Doctor Gary Jentink
