Cool, great job! Is that just the motor from a sewing machine and the pedal attached together or is there other complicated electronics involved exept for the counter? really quiet, fast and nice.

Yes, just the simple setup that Singer designed it in the 1920s. No wizardry. The little bench grinder is the key to this project. It is so smooth running. It's cast iron. I found it on ebay for about forty bucks. The counter was part I thought would be hard. Mechanical counter, gear reduction, etc. I've seen some crazy solutions here on youtube. Most are more Rube Goldberg, than counter. It was stupid easiest with the counter I found on ebay...for $20. By the way, original battery still going strong. Breaking the sewing machine down to the parts I needed made this so simple. Trying to run it off of the sewing machine chassis made for too much moving and shaking and noise. I've had a ton of fun winding pickups and testing them out. I've realized how easy it is to wind a good pickup. I'll never be Jason Lollar or Bill Lawrence, but winding a great sounding pickup is more than possible. I've made a lot of fuzzy red wire balls figuring it out and having fun. Wire isn't cheap, but it's not expensive in a hobby-sense. Guitars and golf clubs aren't cheap either. I wish I played better, but here's a couple of sound files. yourlisten.com/CFlatsDad/tin-pan-ally yourlisten.com/CFlatsDad/comfortably-numb-1st-solo

Marco - the shellac was clouding a little, it wasn't building very quickly and it was shifting the colors from rose to orange. I have since found the stuff to use. Valspar Crystal Clear Spray Lacquer. It dries almost instantly. It build to enormous depths and doesn't shrink when it cures out over time.I buy it at Lowes for about $5 a can and 3 cans is more than enough. I'll leave the shellac to the pros. Here's a telecaster build from last summer. I wanted to try Gun Stock Oil. I'd read all the great stories of mile deep finishes and no spraying. s599.photobucket.com/user/tommyd73069/library/Telecaster%20Build It was bunk. I hated it. After about 20 coats, it still looked like oil on wood, not a finish. About page 6, I ended up stripping it and that's when I found the Valspar. The order is backwards in the album. Latest to beginning. The first two are after a year of daily play, being loaned to a professional friend for about 3 months. The lacquer has settled beautifully and the grain of the maple makes the surface ripple, like water. No smell after about the 5th day. Once there's no smell, it's fully cured. Any smell at all and it needs more time.

I've seen your building reports onto mylespaul forum and I think you've done a very good job with the varnishing (I love shellac finish too) but i dind't understand very well what did you used to make the last varnishing steps after the shellac. If is right you stoped using shellac after uneven results on the body rear shellac buildingup so you decided to go for Deft Clear Wood Brushing Lacquer that, if i see right it's a nitrocellulouse brishing lacquer, is it right? If yes what about the uderside shellac already applied before? did you only just light sanded it and the applied the nitro onto the shellac or did you sanded out all the shellac before brushing nitro? What about the smell brushing nitro instead of spraying it as more commonly made by luthiers? Thanks. Marco

My purchase price was under $200, it was duty exempt. Over $200 is 3.5% Workmanship is outstanding. It was nearly perfectly set up right out of the box. It took 9 days to arrive, well wrapped. I have a 1996 Fender Mexican Strat, this guitar is a better player to me. It twice the weight, though. Get a good strap, use the free strap locks that come with the guitar.
