@@gunnerwilson727 still a solid little camera. Well these go-pro models don’t have removable rechargeable batteries. However, on a fall charge, you can get about 3 hours out of them. Depends on how healthy the battery is and there is no way of knowing without testing

@@gunnerwilson727 To be honest, I am not much of a Go Pro expert, but I know that some of the more modern ones have had their problems. My suggestion would be to set some time aside write down what you might want from the camera. Things such as, recording format, image stabilisation, removable batteries, low light performance, etc etc. Once you have a good idea, watch some RUclips videos and look up reviews. After a while, you will start to get an idea. Find out what the latest model is and then go back a few models and see what type of functionally they have. Also, FYI, The Osmo Action cameras are supposed to be quite good. Let me know how you get on.

@@biosik123 Thanks for your comment. Yes, I am aware that they aren’t properly deinterlaced, I have had many comments over the years. When I first uploaded the video, I was still quite new to editing these formats for RUclips and didn’t even understand how to deinterlace. Fortunately I now how to do that now. However, I would argue that this is how the format was originally seen by the consumer and the comparison holds up in that regard. However, the video you suggested is a good one and shows how lovely imagery can be from these cameras if you have the know how. I can’t believe it has been seen over 100k times. Mind boggling

He filled the details out himself, put a fake birthdate on it, stuck a passport photo on it, and lamented it. I don't know how it worked, but it did.🤣

No, but you will need a form of media to record onto. As this is a hybrid camera, you can buy a Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo and use that as your main media.

Yes, but not so different. VHS-C is basically a smaller version of a VHS tape. VHS-C was made for video cameras. Hi 8 is basically a slightly better picture quality.

Thanks for your kind comments as always. Mad to think you got your digital 8 camera from Norwich, all that time ago. With regards to Digital 8 cameras being able to playback v8 and hi-8, this was something I was looking into. Apparently, not all D8 cameras can do this. I popped a v8 cassette into the camera in this video and when I played it, there was absolutely nothing. When I popped it back into a H8 camera, it played back fine. Then I found this. www.sony.com/electronics/support/articles/00026519 So this model of camera doesn’t let me do it 😞 I will need to check my other camera and see if that has the capability. My gut tells me I have the cheaper model which doesn’t have that capability. I’ll check and update.

@@ReelFilm2016 wow! I didn't know that not all D8 cameras play back the analog tapes. I have to ask then, wtf is the point of them then??? Given that Mini DV cameras are smaller and cost around the same and are the same quality, why would anyone choose a D8 one without that feature? Odd. In that case maybe don't keep it 😏

@@asprinwizard My guess is that Sony just wanted you to pay more for the perk. Can’t see any other reason. I’ll check the other camera and see if that is backwards compatible. If it’s not, I might sell both and get a compatible one 😀

@@ReelFilm2016 I would do that. I simply don't see any reason to have a D8 camcorder without having that backwards compatibility. It effectively gives you a 3 in 1 playback device - and as I've found out recently finding a reliable video 8 playback device is the devil's own job (although I did succeed eventually!)

Hello, thanks for reaching out. I think I do. I purchased a couple of the Sony Memory Stick Pro Duo’s and whilst both worked, one kept showing me the message you are talking about. The card still appeared to work but upon closer inspection, and comparing it to the other memory card, I think one was a fake. The markings and some of the letter placement looked off. Like I said, it still worked, but the camera was clearly aware. Probably an anti-copyright issue. Does that make sense.

@@amberdyer4199 From memory, it did still record, but I am always a bit wary of using something which might not be authentic. I always try and find the real thing. This is on eBay right now. If that is the case,it sounds like the ribbon cable from the LCD might be faulty and require replacing. Without seeing it, it’s hard to tell, but at least the unit is working. If you have an electrical repair service, somewhere close by, it might be worth taking the camera to them to see if they can fault find.

Hello, thanks for watching and commenting. Yes, if you watch the part in my video at 06:55, I talk about the XR format. My understanding is that with each upgrade to the format, Video 8, Video 8 XR, Hi 8, there is a slight improvement to the resolution. Obviously, you need to use a camera which is capable of recording in that resolution. Sony provided tapes for various formats to ensure you were getting the best. There is a slight bump, bits it’s negligible. Sometimes, certain video cameras wouldn’t play back tapes recorded on other cameras. A good example of this is when you play a video 8 or a hi 8 cassette on a digital 8 camera. Some work, but others don’t. I very recently played a video 8 cassette on a digital 8 camera and there seemed to be nothing on it. However, when I popped it in a hi 8 camera, there was footage. I think certain digital 8 camera could playback all cassettes but not every one. I have never visited Madrid. I think I need to. 😀

@@ReelFilm2016 thank you soooo much for all the information!! I want to buy a used camera to reproduce a few 8mm and hi 8mm old tapes shot with a sony hi8 . I have the option of getting a 8xr or a digital 8.. still not sure what to do. You should visit here , you would like Madrid.. :)

@@lasrecetasdemama9957 If I understand you correctly, are you wanting to get old recordings off of those tapes. If so, I think a Hi 8 camera would be the best option for playback functionality. As mentioned, not all digital 8 camera play back hi 8 and video 8 One day I will come to Madrid
