What if beyond the cosmic horizon you have huge clumps of dark and anti-matter that coagulated over time. We're talking billions of times more massive than the largest super massive black holes. This would create a gravitational pull beyond our comprehension and create a "tsunami" effect. Pulling the interior apart towards the outer expanse. Eventually the outer regions would keep accreting until they spiral back together. No need for dark energy, but rather a new property of gravity at extreme scale.
