The difference is they are totally different countries IN Europe, with separate Football Associations. Also, England and Ireland would both fight to the death over their National upbringing, and a player opting to represent a different countries football team, when they've absolutely no plans to play for the country their supposedly representing, will inevitably create more bad blood between them. Think of a player who's chosen to play for the country YOU are from, only for him to then play for a neighboring country where there's always dispute, how betrayed would YOU feel? Hopefully I've explained it a little better. All countries in Europe have separate Football Associations and most wouldn't like a player to opt to fly the flag for their nation, only to turn out for a rival instead, simply so he COULD play for that rival.

Is it coz Real already have an Englishman in Jude Bellingham, or to do with brexit or something. If I was in the Irish F.A, I'd be writing cheeky letters for the utter Gaul of him. Simply coz his dad was Irish or something. If he's never going to have any intention of playing for Ireland, I just don't think things like this should be allowed. There are plenty of players who have duel citizenship and choose to represent one country over another. There are a bunch of players who have represented both!!!!! Take Diego costa for example!!! It’s a loophole sure but calling it cheating is simply wrong, even calling it immoral is a stretch.
