Please stop using “uh huh” as a response. It seems like you couldn’t care any less to be speaking to him.

I'm such a Mason Earle fan, such a badass athlete, and an inspiring individual. A couple of years ago I was looking for news about him, some new ascent or a repetition of a cool route, and found out about his illness. Such a heartbreaking moment, especially cause he seems such a nice person. I really wish him the best, and I wish more people would check out this conversation and the historical ascents Mason put up throughout the years. Thanks Hazel for the content.

Yea he’s absolutely incredible, one of the only people I idolize. I broke my back and developed recurrent pericarditis at the same time almost 4 years ago, and spent many hundreds of days and nights in bed watching Mason, Hazel, Tommy, and others on their adventures. It got me through and I promised myself when I was better I’d move to Colorado and start climbing, even thought I had no experience previously. I’ve got my back better, pericarditis manageable, and I just climbed ice for the first time in Ouray this week at Ice Fest. Sometimes the worst things in life can make you better, and I know for sure Mason is gonna make it through this and come out the other side a better man, no matter how hard it may be. Quit isn’t in his blood.

Great cross-over insights, especially on breathing. Thank you. It would be great to hear more about breathing in different types of climbing, as well as in climbing preparation and recovery.

This is really is an excellent, well- considered and diverse discussion. Thank you! I loved the focus on intrinsic motivation and mindful task-focus to elicit flow experience. For me mindfulness goes hand in hand with compassion and self-compassion. It would be really great in future talks if perhaps you could consider exploring the role of self-compassion on dealing with perfectionism, for example. What are you thoughts on emotional self-regulation and self-compassion in climbing?
