Super Wonderboy in Monsterland (C64) Longplay
I remembered this game as crashy and with very long loading times. Thanks to Nostalgia, and modern technology, it is possible to play this game without crashes and without loading waits.
The EasyFlash version of this game was released in December 2011 and can be downloaded from www.n0stalgia.org/common/pages/releases.php?op=showrelease&id=225

Maniac Mansion (C64) Longplay - Bernard and Jeff

Fastest way to win Maniac Mansion on C64 is to pick up Bernard and call Meteor Police. That way you do not need to send letter (like Syd/Razor with the tape or Wendy with fixed manuscript) nor develop Weird Ed's plans (Michael).

Syd and Razor share the same extra abilities. Recorded tape, gave it to Green Tentacle and then sent it. While waiting for contract Syd has microwaved the hamster.

Developed the film and gave plans to Weird Ed. Bernard was used only for fixing the phone to make it easier with Edna (Jeff can also fix phone).

Obtained publishing contract for meteor and called the police. At the end of the video I had to kill some time waiting for the contract to arrive. It could have been finished earlier if I went for one of the police endings (get the meteor by police or use the police badge to get past the purple tentacle).

Bod Squad C64 Longplay Level 3 - Monastery Complete + Ending

Enabled Unlimited Lives. This level is big (8*5 screens) and is more like a labyrinth. It took me quite some time to figure out that there are hidden passages through the book shelves. This video might seem very short considering this level has 15 minutes time limit but if you want to check out whole level I'm sure you'll run out of time. Unlike first two levels the starting point is not the ex...

Odd that Wendy wasn't the one standing off-camera at the talk show in the end. Is that a change that was made for the NES version?
AT 13:42 after walk on the roof IT SAYS "SOMETHING WONDERFUL JUST HAPPENED" and from there the game become automatically trained after this point?
Ah thanks for doing these videos, it's great watching someone play it. I'm the dev by the way. It's nice to see that at least a few people like the game. ❤
Do you have the source code by any chance? While reverse-engineering the old games code is real possibility, it always is nice to what comments were in the original code (if any) and how the development problems were solved back in the day (now with PC based development environments and exomizer it is way easier to overcome memory problems).
"The Commodore 64 is quite possibly the greatest computer ever built, and Maniac Mansion would not exist without it. Its combination of simplicity, sophistication and limitations provided the perfect storm of creative and technical innovation that allowed Maniac Mansion to go on to define the point-and-click genre. It was a joy and wonder to program and will forever remain my favourite computer." -- Ron Gilbert, co-designer and programmer (Maniac Mansion)
I never knew this was on the C64! OMG! I would have loved this back in the day!
BRilliant Game. BEST EVER!!!!!!
Nic😍💚😄💖💞💝💔💘E.. FINISH🏁ED in ALL 😂😂🤘💖😅🕹😆👍🇪🇸🎶🏖🍺
OleeeeEEEEEE🇪🇸🕹😆👍EE... FOLLOW 😆👍🇪🇸🎶🎵🎸🏖🍺💖
Thanks for sharing this. Brings back memories for sure. I finished the game multiple times in multiple scenarios. Can't remember every one of them, i remember only parts. Absolutely captivating game and it ran very well on the C64.
So much harder than the Sega version
And part 2 (which is teased in the end sequence) never came out... too late in the C64's life to get a publisher interested.
The way you bounce off the walls is infuriating. I can't imagine trying to play this without infinite lives. Still, it's visually gorgeous by C64 standards. The ol' hires-outline-overlaying-a-multicolour-sprite technique really does wonders for the main character. According to the CF archive, the developer, Kent Murray, intended the game to be a full-price release, but the C64 market was dwindling by the time this appeared in 1992, and no one would publish it as such. Zeppelin agreed to publish it as a budget title with only three levels, and so Kent ramped up the difficulty because he didn't want people to finish the levels too quickly! Argh! What a shame; this could have been a super romp if you didn't bounce around so much and the difficulty were backed off a little. An in-game tune would have been nice too, but there wasn't enough time for that, it seems. Still, with the cheat, this is great fun!
the childhood.Of the white one at the end was hard to go through. C64.
One of the most frustrating games I've ever tried to play. Makes you want to jump out the window or destroy everything around you.
Fuckin' brilliant. A lot of games I first learned to appreciate when I got a bit older, this was one of them. And one of the best.
That intro music, epic
Played this back in the days on my c64. Loved the game. Did not know then it was a port
How to forget the 30 second loading time for tape each time you change screen.
Only ever played disk version, still had to load tho!
Did nobody notice the bad spelling of "discovering" , which they put 'descovering" - hey that's budget games for ya eh :)
Man, the painting in the attic above ednas room always freaked me out when I was a kid because of those teeth. Anyway: I LOVE this game. It was the second game I played on the C64. The first one was Giana Sisters (with the Super Mario hack) and then I played this masterpiece. The third was Zak McKracken. I just fell in love with the C64 back then. So great memories.
Now, if you had have just purchased the shield in the first town.
Green boots were really the best first purchase
If I had to choose between music and sound effects, I’d chose sound effects every time. This game feels wrong without the sound of that coin appearing.
the graphics of this game is surprisingly good for a c64
When you collected the recording of the high-pitched sound onto the tape, WHY DIDN`T you go straight to the LIVING ROOM to BREAK THE CHANDELIER with it?
Aaaah the game where I learned not to push every button you see. Specifically a big red button that has a warning "Do Not Push" next to it
5:39 WTF
Nice
Stunning graphics for a C64 game.
Great ending! There are so much different endings of this game...
how i learned my first english words at 10 years old lol my dad couldnt figure out the key was under the math forver lol alkso game crashed so nvr finished it
Great intro music but the game is sadly silent !!!!!!
If this I game music it would have been brilliant
Maybe the best looking game on the CBM64. As a speccy man I liked to laugh the CBM with its chunky graphics but it works real well here, they could have never done this on a Speccy
It amuses me that the C64 version has better sound and music than the Amiga version. And here I was thinking I was missing out back in the day...Hell, I even like the simplified graphics of the 64 better. Strange.
The C64 was the original, after all.
We had this game, until the parents confiscated it, they banned us from buying Viz comics too.
Man. This game is largely responsible for shaping me into the person I became. Taught me many things. And today is the first time I saw the meteor (and the ending) in over 20 years!
these commodore shaped us were old...look at this gen filled with shitty games..we where lucky
And the game has multiple endings like putting meteor into the (flying)car in the garage and launching him into space. Great game, great memories.
Where is the GoFundMe page to make a live action Maniac Mansion Movie??? Also Zak McCracken.
That’s a really dumb idea. Today they would butcher it.
@@Dukefazon Back in the early 90's I wrote Lucas Arts a letter requesting a movie. They released a television show, it wasn't nearly as good as the game and didn't seem related at all, To this day, I'd be into the idea of a movie, but the 90's were quirky and creative, off-colored and inappropriate, all of the things that the 2000's aren't.
i realize there are so many versions but tbh.. this is how the game was designed to be played and every other version missed the mark. best version c64.
It is the original, after all.
Used to play this in my friends garage back in the late 80's. Was so spooky getting chased in the house while playing in a large dark garage on the c64.
Exactly. Edna in the kitchen was hair-raising!
_"GET OUT OF MY PARK YOU FUCKING _*_TWATBASTARDS!_*_ "_
Which version are you using of the game? I need a working .d64 please. Many thanks.
I used the easyflash cartridge version released by Onslaught csdb.dk/release/?id=98674
Great conversion
I never saw anybody play as Biffa Bacon before. Thanks!
I was hoping you gave the hamster back alive. Wanted to see his reaction.
die enemy die
way the "Super" in the title, this is just normal Wonderboy in monsterland
Wonderboy had low sales, so the title was renamed super wonderboy in monsterland and it sold well.
How on earth do you do that jump at @1:55?
okay n/m, I figured it out (had to press down first)
Looks real shitty! Glad I had it on the Amiga!
