Goddamn, this is interesting! I've been super into the fediverse for a while but always felt the inability to migrate from one instance to another was likely to create a lot of friction for new users (there's also the "king of the island" issue, however this has always existed everywhere and, until Nostr came about, I figured smaller silos was a halfway-decent solution). Something like Nostr that allows for much more portability (even if you can't perfectly migrate DMs!) is super alluring. Y'all keep up the good work!

I like Nostr, but imo the inability to extricate Bitcoin from the micropayments is a fundamental issue. There needs to be other options to plug in, like fiat currencies or other decentralized currencies. Another is, like you said, the ability to control who is in your "neighborhood" and, specifically imo, how they interact with you. I enjoyed this!

I'd contend that Instagram is like an art gallery. I think it's more like a PowerPoint party with each person showing off the highlights of their life. I like the DnD comparison for Mastodon! And the criticism of Bluesky is valid, I hope it gets more diverse and less politically correct as it grows.
