Honestly, there would be no way to get my wheelchair up the spiral staircase. It's too wide for it. I barely fit in my doorways with it.

I am suppose to be getting one of those soon too. And i kinda weigh alot. I can't see that thing helping me out to well. I will let you know how it goes ones i get one or even if i get one. I notice most of the videos they show of people using this device aren't very big people. At lease i haven't seen someone big (my size) use one yet. Its hard to believe that the unit even cost as much as they say it does. Also someone told me that you have to make sure your back tires are fully aired up to the recommended specs too. That will help the unit out a great deal etc.
I hope it helps you! I didn't find it really useful for my needs and it did "help", not fully push me.

You're absolutely right about everything taking longer when one uses a wheelchair. And I totally get the loss of leverage when doing countertop tasks. Have you modified your kitchen in any way? Side note, I noticed the spiral staircase in the background. If you ever install a lift/elevator, would you post about the process? Anyway, nice vid and a few muffins to snack on for a while. I did buy an stove that has controls on the front, but not anything significant. My lift is actually right next to the staircase and it didn't have to be removed. I cannot get out the sliding glass door, because of it.
@@Wheelsinthewoods About the stairs/lift, no worries then. Didn't know you had something in place already. Unfortunate though that it blocks a door to outside. Any muffins left? 🤭
@lj8902 I had to get the lift before I could move back home. I also had to build a ramp, because my house has a good lift for floods. The poor muffins had a 100% casualty rate, I had help.
sometimes devotees will pretend to ask those questions to get you to do things on camera, transfers, moving or touching your legs, and foot stuff are common. be careful getting those questions or people who say "my relative/friend/etc. is newly injured and can't figure out how to do XYZ how do you do it?"

@@Wheelsinthewoods The problem is usually bigger than people realize and it lurks behind the most friendly and helpful usernames you'll encounter. I, for example, am one of them. Stay safe and tell a friend.

Man or bear 🤔 ummm ...... well as a guy i will say that im not sure what to say . I've worked in the north woods of Maine for most of my life and hear its bigfoot thats seems to be the real problem . I was a personal trainer for about a year ( it wasn't for me ) but , i can say not every person was into cardio . Rite on ✌️ cardio is a must for all.

@NORATECHNOLOGIES Thank you and welcome. I don't qualify for any in home assistant with insurance. They only pay for medical necessity. Going outside is not needed by their standards 🙃

How long did it take for your arms to get used to being used more than before your accident ?
It took about 3 months before I could get around on the bed.

Are there ways you exercise your paralyzed lower body?
The only exercise equipment for the lower body is called a FES bike, to my knowledge. I get to use it at physical therapy and it uses electric impulses to get the legs to work.
@@Wheelsinthewoods Sounds technical and fancy. Without that device, how much control are you able to achieve on your own?
@@downwardspiral4297 zero control of everything under my chest. I did a complete injury to the cord.

@downwardspiral4297 yup. At almost 2 years the chance of me getting any sensation or functions is about 0, but not completely.

That's awesome that you were able to get that machine. I have looked for an upper body ergometer like that but so far no success without spending a small fortune 😅. I'm happy for you that you got it. Yes, you're absolutely on point about the cardio and strengthening for transfers. At one time I could manage to get up from floor level but setbacks and progression... (not a SCI here but degenerative muscle issues is my particular challenge). Have a blessed day...
Thank you so much for the supportive comments! I'm so sorry you're also going through such difficulties. Have you tried an under desk bike and using it for upper body? It's much easier if you bolt it down and they are so much cheaper!
@@Wheelsinthewoods Thank you for your concerns, diagnosed ~12 years ago but symptomatic for a longer period of time. Anyway, the under desk types aren't sufficient enough for my needs. They're good for what they do but limited for what I'm looking for.

@downwardspiral4297 I'm so sorry you're down there! It's crazy how behind they are. I heard the power companies have refused to pay overtime down there so it's not getting resolved as soon as it should be. Try and keep cool!

@@buster531000 I'm not actually a paraplegic myself, but have a friend who is. He cannot feel bug bites on his legs, but in the UK we don't have many dangerous bugs as in warmer climates. Blessings to you, take care.

Oh, yeah, Ramps R Us. Who knew geometry is more than compass + protractor, (x+y)? Am not Fancy Pants in a Posh Chair, but am hemiplegic w orthotic, have quad cane, will travel---until h*ll paved w good intentions: store, laundry room, office, deli, etc w/'homemade' ramps & gravity defying slaloms are kindly built or poured in doorways---and prevent access for me being too steep or angled. Ironically, sometimes a curb or stair to hurdle would be easier/safer than ramps, crosswalk cutaways, certain driveways, or van ramps, etc. Explaining this, I find sometimes difficult b/c eyes glaze over & ya just sound picky w/too much time on your hands. So, if person knows cars at all? I sometimes refer to a car and tire/steering context. Mechanics 101: 'camber, caster, toe'. It's how a vehicle navigates steering in a system having to respond to different road surface angles, gravity, etc for steering/tires to handle the terrain, speeds, etc. My friend in chair has definitely met ramps she avoids. Your vids are helpful & entertaining. Thank you.
