Fried potatoes Kevin's way
We started thinking about all the ways that potatoes could be prepared. They are a low cost food that stores pretty well so most people would have access to them.
Today, Kevin prepares fried potatoes the way his mama taught him. This is a fairly quick method and they always taste so good.
We plan to do several other potato prep videos just to give some inspiration for those days when you can't think of what to prepare.
We upload videos on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.
We would love to pray with you for needs in your life. Please either post prayer requests in the comments or send us an email (more private). We look forward to supporting each other in this way.

    Thankfully that strike was over very quickly! I know this is for emergencies, however, I have a specific diet and I could only eat the canned meats & peanut butter. I try my best to not eat cheap processed foods especially with some many containing bioengineered ingredients (have to read all labels). They are trying to make us sick & reliant on big pharma. That's why having chickens, ducks, eggs, and herbs and veggies growing is where I want to go. I keep a good supply of peanut butter, canned tuna, chicken & spam, snack bars, water, mixed nuts, lo-carb anything in cans/packages, etc.....I just need the camping stove now too, lol Love your videos though! God bless you both!

    • @hideawayhomestead3477
      @hideawayhomestead3477 29 дней назад

      I agree that being prepared for emergencies is not a one-size-fits-all. Families often have what I call "picky eaters" and it does you no good to stock food that no one likes or will eat. Better to go with items that will have a good shelf life, eat the oldest first, and make sure that what you have purchased will be what you like to eat. I have heard of many people stocking only beans and rice, and where we enjoy those two items, not for every meal!! We are trying to add to the basics so we can have some variety for our taste buds. Thanks for your insight. I think that will be helpful to many people as they consider what to buy for their household.

    ways to scrape up a few dollars for extra?? we save our cans for the 5 cent deposit returns (not big pop drinkers but during the holidays or summer gatherings-we rack up a few) when i bring them to the return center, i usually have 7 dollars or more worth and then i take whatever my total is and i run over to Aldi (its across the street from the return center) and see how much i can get for that amount-usually 10 to 14 cans of something or if i have morwe i can splurge and by 2 packs of bacon etc...if i see a sale at a local grocery store or have a few good coupons,i calculate the savings and use that extra to buy a couple of cans of something.my sister in law volunteers to help clean out the homes of people recently deceased-they give her ALOT of free things just because they dont want the hassle of going through everything-she walks away with cupboards FULL of unexpired food and non food items like detergent,shampoo,household cleaners,tons of medical supplies etc...she gives away alot of items given to her at these houses and sells some on ebay-all from things the family tells her to keep or get rid of..

Every little bit helps and adds up over time! Your sister is doing a great service to the families of the recently deceased. I know that sorting through our parent's houses was quite a task and the option of having someone pass along the extra items is a relief to the families and a blessing to those she shares with.

I worry about losing all the preps. So sorry for your loss through Ian. I'm glad you are able to restock, but it is costly and disheartening, I am sure.

      My first thought was "yes" but I double-checked with a search. The Internet agrees with me on this one. I think it would be a good experiment to try in the house as long as you have a large enough space that the spikes wouldn't poke you every time you walked by. Ohmygosh, I can't believe I found you again! I used to be Cornflower Blue until a year ago. My phone stopped working, and I could no longer access my info and got locked out of my RUclips (and everything else 😢). Anyway, long story short, I had to start a new account here on RUclips. I'd found pretty much everyone I had been subscribed to except you guys. Your channel name just popped into my head tonight. I don't know if you remember me or not, but I'm super excited to catch up on what's been happening on your homestead. 😊 Also, shameless plug...I started my own channel back in December. Come on over and say hi if you enjoy videos about books. Oh, I'm just so happy to have found you again, lol! 😂

      We have missed you! I didn't know what happened to you because you just stopped commenting and we didn't see your name come up. We will have to check out your channel. We are both avid readers - usually Christian books and fiction. We are so excited to have you back in our lives. Blessings to you.

    I got mongoose, mongoose are not nocturnal around here, they were going up the ramp right through the automatic chicken door right into the coop to steal eggs, I had to lock chickens up in the coop and run. I don't bother anymore with those plastic waterers, my time is too valuable to be messing around with those things, I have stainless steel automatic animal waterers and peck feeders, I designed and built a easy clean attachment for the water bowl in the run, I clean it in less than 30 seconds. I also designed a full rain harvesting system for my coop with solar pumping system, all water and power is 100% fully sustainable...that's how much I hate watering the chickens 😂

    Possums eat eggs and maybe small chicks, but usually dont attack grown chickens. You may have a coon. They're relentless and crafty.

    Good idea with the brush. I’ve wasted a lot of time blasting the green goop with water. Haha

    I buried chicken wire to about six inches deep all around our coop and it’s proven to work great. The only thing Ive found to stop coons is trapping of all sorts. They can get into ANYTHING!

    What is growing behind kevin at 11:45?

    • @hideawayhomestead3477
      @hideawayhomestead3477 8 месяцев назад

      Behind Kevin is a Papaya tree with fruit hanging. In the background to the right of the picture are overhanging oak tree branches. This particular papaya tree has been producing fruit for us for several years. It was cut off by a hurricane about a year ago but grew back even stronger! Thanks for noticing and commenting.

    Another central floridian here, my bees are due in at the end of next week! What do you fuel your smoker with? It seemed to stay lit really well

    • @hideawayhomestead3477
      @hideawayhomestead3477 8 месяцев назад

      Thanks for commenting. I have tried several fuels through the years for my smoker. I learned that the goal is "cool smoke" or the bees will become angry or damaged. This time I used hay in the smoker. I have bought pellets before but those were not my favorites. I have also used newspaper or pine needles with good success. I suggest that you experiment several times before you need to use the smoker to get the hang of it. When I first started, it would not stay lit for long enough so I just had to keep trying until I found the good balance with fuel to make smoke - sort of like learning to use a clutch with a standard transmission. You just get to know how it works and then you can follow that process in the future with success. Let us know how you do with your new hives.

    if you buy an electric cattle fence you can string it low so it catches the pigs. hope this helps.

      Thanks for your encouragement. Yes, we have advertised the piglets for sale. They are all so strong and healthy but just more animals than we need right now.

    Hey brother and Carol, I’m not versed much on pigs but I think you just needed a more secure fence to keep them in. They are very cute. Hope you’re both doing well. Carol sounds like she has a throat problem like I had earlier this month. Love ya

      @hideawayhomestead3477 9 месяцев назад

      Thanks for watching and commenting. Yes, a lot of the problem is the fencing. We think that other causes are that we are not here to care for them twice a day and they don't get enough pasture area to graze on. Hopefully, we can keep them in grass now that two of the larger ones are gone. Sorry that you were sick this month. I hope you are better now. Carol is improving every day and sounds worse than she feels. Take care.
